- My reaction to the news of the Van Halen "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" EXPANDED EDITION boxset being announced and it's sadly the same situation all over again... here is my take on it!

The Dream is over doesn't get the mention it deserves. That opening riff is killer and gives me goose bumbs everytime. Great, great song!

Totally agree, man...Dream is Over is my all-time fav, that album introduced me to VH, Poundcake was one of the first tunes i learned on guitar. Also, if the Hagar-Era albums were re-introduced as separate multitracks of all the instruments/vocals, that would sell like hotcakes....VH fans need this!
according to industry folklore: the reason it took so long to get the 1st remasters (in 2000) is eddie and / or the band didn't want to do that. perhaps they thought it was necessary and / or they didn't want to "cash grab" the fans. i'm more interested in the VH box set that was in the works but was later scrapped. this was believed to have early unreleased and demo material. for this i do believe some it has been put on the net as the quality of the tracks is great. with eddie's passing i believe that it will see the light of day but farther down the line.
What we really need and Michael Anthony has said this on other podcast shows, that what are thinking of doing is releasing a career spanning box set of all their hits and the rest will be unreleased demos and songs, thats what i really want to see
I completely agree that we need full instrumentals of every VH track. As important as the vocals are to the identity of the band, there are TONS of hidden licks covered up by the vox. We deserve to hear it all. Regarding the free Dallas show, i agree its a retread of something we’ve been seeing for years BUT the HD upgrade and the proper mixing takes it to another level.
Go to Digital Spilt and the VH songs plus tons are there without the vocals.

@@JeremyWhiteShow one of my favorites is AFU Ed plays a nasty swing that you don’t hear over Sammy’s vocal “pumpin up for the show” and repeated “don’t like the middle squeezing me”.

For sure,we need new stuff not recycled over & over again,how hard can it possibly be to for Warner bros to spend some money & put some extra stuff we have not seen so we get our moneys worth

They are such tight asses,imagine how easy it would be to grab some live concerts from the vault,re master & colour them,tweak the audio,it would cost them fuck all compared to the amount of money they would make from all the sales

I feel the same as you do but with Bon Jovi. Of course in regards of their classic catalogue (1984-1995). Van Halen can do way better too.

I'm curious if the instrumental version of "The Dream is Over" is just the track sans vocals, or if it has additional guitar playing on it.

I gead the F.U.C.K. vinyl cut on FM radio and is was just KILLER. It's so much different than CD. During "Thunder Dome" there was so much going on the mix it was almost muddy it was so thick. I loved it!

I was 16 when this came out I got it on cassette and listened to it for about 6 months and lost interest. I like OU812 but not this or any VH afterwards
I think Sammy solo stuff doesn’t belong in a Van Halen box set. We don’t see Dave’s……I hope we see some stuff we’ve never heard before. Seriously, I can’t stand his solo work. Sorry. Not trying to spread hate or disparage anyone from enjoying anything.
