    Thabk you so much for this tutorial.
    Ive tried it and everythings fine...except for one important thing!
    my arnold renderer seems to be alot different since i dont have that shiny glassy and smooth surface and lighting. Ive tried changing settings but nothing happened...its so frustrating.
    Could u plz help me with this?
    Did u use specific settings?

    Thanks for a great in depth tutorial.
    Which version of Arnold did you use for this tutorial?
    I am using version13.1.2 but your version seems to have some improved features:
    -Arnold Render View has a 3rd pull down for the 'debug shading' options (Mine has in the Render menu)
    -AlRemapFloat node has a mask attribute underneath clamp min and max values (this is not present in my version)

    I tried reverse node.... but reverse node in not connecting in weight

      Arvid Schneider when I try to connect ai range in weight of base color, the connection editor shows up on screen

    Hi Arvid, I followed the steps as you explained for the sclera but i used a mask that i imported from Mari. The clear part where of the sclera where the iris shows is completely transparent and invisible. It doesn't display any spec nor refraction. You might have any pointers on whats wrong ? Thx!

    Hello Arvid, I'm actually doing your tutorial and I can't find the opaque option in Maya 2018. Would you know where she is? It seems to have been moved / deleted. My arnold Translator is on polymesh, but i can't see Matte & Opaque.

      She must be hidden somewhere inside the shape node.

    Hi Arvid.
    I installed the ultimate version os alshader and all are ok. But the aiImage don´t work properly in the function "image name". Do you know if this have any problem?

    hi it's cool but al shaders are very slow to compute especially the al surface it's about 5 times slower than the ai standard , any idea to accelerate the calculation of al shaders ???!

      All 100 series work with arnold 4 and alShaders. All 500 series work with arnold 5 and the new shader.

      I wouldnt say that. The same principles apply. if you understand what I am doing in the 100 series you should be easily able to apply the knowledge for a5. Its not that big of a difference.

      Arvid Schneider k thanks sir because i saw many of ur al surface tutorial but it isn't working on latest arnold so i have learn arnold 5 which became bit confusing but now i will learn A 5 and then try to apply the 100 series on it
      Btw great piece of tutorial u are uploding
      Can u make a tutorial on how to apply pbr maps which can be free to download from polligon.com
      Just need one tutorial on it plz it will help me a lot as a biginer

    i'm trying to add the ramp in aistandardshader (i have maya 2018 - ramp is working) but the ramp in showing inside the ball rather than on the surface.. what do u think is wrong there?

      Your face normal could be reversed, check if double sided is ticked on

    Unfortunately AI standart shader is now deprecated and replaced with AI standart surface which is completely different principle applies when it comes to the eye shader

    Thanks Arvid, where can connect the ramp to if I use ai standard surface instead my Alshaders all render solid red in Maya 2018!! I don't think Maya 2018 supports the latest Al shaders any advise would be greatly received.

      Al shaders are deprecated in Maya 2018 as a good chunk of their functionality has been introduced into the ai standard surface as of Arnold 5. You can still follow along with Arvid's tutorial you just have to think outside of the box a bit to achieve the same math results he is when he is manipulating the textures. As far as the ramp connections, the one controlling the diffuse contribution where he blacks out the center goes into base which is the base weight, the inverted one controlling transmission in the cornea center would go into transmission (transmission weight). All of the remap functions can be recreated with either aiRange nodes or aiColorCorrects. Hope this helps.

    Hi Arvid Schneider,
    I'm using Maya 2018 with Arnold 5, I tried to adding Black and White mask (A White map with a Black circle for the Iris ) into the Tranmission Weight ( So i can reveal the Iris behind the Sclera ).
    No matter what i tried it's keep dark (I already turn off the opaque)
    Can you help me Please?

      Make sure you are connecting the right channel and not the Alpha channel too the weight. Also depending on the I've make sure the ramp fits properly

    Hello, do you have any workaround for arnold caustics? Is super noisy and i tried all the shaders, ai, al, jf nested....
    I know i can fake caustics on iris with a high spec, but thats just... you know, not correct (:

      Matt xypnise Arnold does not support caustics like Vray does because of different algorithms in the core. So you only have the option to increase samples as crazy. Or a different render.
      Soon arnold5 will be released hopefully with new features

    you are using tx files for the diffuse and bump maps but the ones you provided are png... help!

      Allan Taylor Arnold converts them automatically to tx. Or it should.

      yes try aiRange instead. it takes float and rgb

      ​@@teganyu7530 If you are referring to the portion where Arvid corrects the bump map you can use an aiColorCorrect. It contains a mask option, just change the multiply to 0 and then directly below it change the add to 0.5, if the mask is setup properly it will give you the 0.5 bump value result where the cornea is transparent. Hopefully that helps
