I had a bush XC Ute. Got me to work in Perth then all the way to Wagga Wagga. One pit stop in Wagin for a quick spray to cover all the bits that might attract attention. Died on my new homes driveway. Swapped it for a 61 Futura Sedan. Swapped that after a spit and polish for a XC Coup. Traded that in for a new XR6. Best free Ute I ever. I was one of the people who supported you mob. We often chat on other projects.

Used to watch this on the CBC. It ran back to back with Bush Tucker Man -- another epic Australian series. I don't know which of my reactions is dominant here: amazement at the ability of these people to do anything with nothing (including money), or horror at the implied risk of their solutions. But these guys are superheroes, either way.
When this was first on I watched every episode, it was hilarious and way better then allot of trash they call TV now. What an amazing documentary. 👍😁

Reminds me of my first car, a 1967 Holden HR. I bought it for $300 in 1984 and the floor panels had all rusted away. Driving it home you could look through the floor at the road, Fred Flintstone style. First thing me and my dad did was weld floor plates in. After it was done up people at traffic lights would lean out their windows and ask if I wanted to sell it.
I remember driving red dirt roads like that in the back of unimogs when I was in the army. So much dust you couldn’t see the guy across from you. We’d all wear goggles and scrim wrapped around our heads but you’d be digging red dust out of strange places for a few days after that. Have a sauna and you’d go dirt red.

these are the cars/vehicles that built this country and got people to where they had to be, no 4wd, no aircon/climate control no complaints either just get on with it. another sentiment, spirit, ideology way of life whatever you want to call it that we seem to have forsaken for cheap convenience Im not a whinging boomer not even a boomer but lifes experiences were more these boys are not cocooned in a $100000 worth of space shuttle tech and they are relying on their own brains what an alien concept today. Cheers to these men and the ladies who live/lived this and little did they know how valuable their rides would becme.
Wasn't so long ago that the only people who had 4wd were the army and they weren't sharing. Everyone else had rwd holden and ford cars, with a bit of plating welded underneath to protect the gearbox and diff. No trick suspension, no special tyres. Climate control was taping newspaper to the windows to stop the radiant heat coming in, with just a slit left to see through. Nothing could keep the dust out though.

I watched this as a young fella and I have done some nasty things to my cars and bikes to keep them running to get home. You do what you have to do I love the series. Amazing how you can find a bit of wire when you need it.

wtf is this? I watched it all. This is a TV show i imagine (camera angles). With maybe some true history/stories involved? Pretty cool to see something like this come where it did! Other parts seem real. The main reason of doubt is that the roof was sliced off with a tool before they took a hatchet to it. (super clean cut) .... Okay after searching yeah, its a TV show. Reality, where its 50/50 truth.

Some places there really are car parts lying around. On the old Nullarbor dirt road there seemed to be an abandoned wreck every few miles, and discarded wheels more frequently than that.
