As a son of a chef, and as a son of a chef who doesn't even know how to make pancakes right, Michael's "Are you kidding me?" about his kids never watching the Godfather is something I've heard from my dad so many times - it's good to know that love is transcendent of lifestyles and choices, no matter the paths taken. My favourite detail is how when they speak sicilian, they dont just speak italian, they speak the authentic dialect. Even the calabrese man spoke his dialect properly.
Don Fanucci was played by the well-known Italian actor Gastone Mochin; having actual regional actors act in their mother tongue contributed to the authenticity.
Another Fun Fact Joseph Siravo(R.I.P) who played Tony's dad Johnny Boy Soprano on "The Sopranos" was in Carlito's Way with Al Pacino. Rocco Sisto who played "Young Uncle Jr" on Sopranos was in Donnie Brasco with Al Pacino👍

The best about that Hyman Roth "I didn't ask why... this is the life we've chosen" is that it revealed the real anger that Hyman Roth had for Michael under his superficial charm. And why he plotted against him so much.

The Old Havana scenes were filmed in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Some of the sites are no longer standing (most memorably the Hotel Jaragua, were the balcony/solarium birthday scene was shot). Others still remain: the Palacio Nacional (New Year's ballroom scene) and Parque Independencia (Michael and Fredo's ice cream scene ).
I just wanna say the opening scene when Vito was a kid in sicilia was so realistic my mother who,s 94 from agrigento province.says she remembers similar incidents..but everything you see shot in sicilia was 100 percent accurate. Even the dialect..that's how it was back in the day..
I did too. One of my favorite scenes is in GF I when Vito and his wife are dancing at Connie's wedding. You can't hear what he says to her but she suddenly transforms into a shy girl, thrilled with her first compliment from a man she loves, she looks down, then looks at him with a kind of embarassed look on her face. To me, they're just two parts of one movie so I can't judge them as two separate movies. Both great. Every one in these movies nailed their roles. So many iconic scenes. That scene where Michael closes the door on Kay says so much without saying a word. I also think Hyman wasn't just letting Michael know he knew about Moe Greene but was also trying to tell him that he was willing to let it go and hope Michael would let his attempt on Michael's life go as well.
I really like the ending. That final flashback was the pinnacle of the symbolism and represented the events to call me in the single frame of Michael in that dinner table where everyone was singing happy birthday to the Don.

His father was great, he was just in a system in which there are certain rules, probably was coerced into that or it wasn't him. If it was me i would understand, relationship between father and son when the atmosphere is tense and disturbing involves forgiving. Sonny was legendary in that life.
Incidentally, a little fun fact, the "Moshulu" which transported the young Don to Ellis Island is anchored in the Delaware River in Philadelphia, you get a great view of it going North bound on I-95. I believe it's now a restaurant,
Brando's nuanced performance is enigmatically captivating. One that's more-or-less impossible to follow even for killers like Pacino, De Niro and Duvall.
"This is the business We've chosen..I didn't ask who gave the order...cause it had NOTHING to do with business..." -- One of the best lines ever delivered in a "crime film" by Al Pacino's acting coach..Lee Strasberg. You can tell Pacino is in "awe" of Strasberg.
I thought Michael was going to toss her out the window..... or strangle her on the spot. "You're not taking my children! You are NOT taking my children!"
@@Mark-xh8md Absolutely, I ended up feeling the same way about Kay as I did about Carmela Soprano. They knew what they were getting into when they married and loved the money and the perks. You can hear it right then and there.
John Cazale was one of the most underrated actors. His performances in Godfather I & II, the Deer Hunter and Dog Day Afternoon are some of the best acting I've seen.
I so agree with you, he was wonderful and it is a shame we lost him so young. There is a great show about him called "Considering Cazale", which you can find on YT. I loved it and think you would too.
To my understanding, everyone working with him, knew just how good he was. They had the deepest respect for him, and valued his advice.
He did only 5 movies.
All 5 nominated for Best Picture.
Pretty incredible
He was from Revere, MA, a city North of Boston that became a bedroom community for small-time wise guys. It's evident Cazale got his inspiration up close.
@@antonewilson4310 My mother’s buried in the same cemetery with him-Holy Cross Cemetery. Straddles Revere, Malden and Everett! Not that anyone gives a shit!
My favourite detail is how when they speak sicilian, they dont just speak italian, they speak the authentic dialect. Even the calabrese man spoke his dialect properly.
ok
Yes, very true. Even the scenes in Italy, the mannerisms of the locals, all very very authentic.
@@unknown-p5j5x i agree
Don Fanucci was played by the well-known Italian actor Gastone Mochin; having actual regional actors act in their mother tongue contributed to the authenticity.
@@MoltenPlastic Shut up
Fun fact... Dominic Chianese who played Junior soprano in the sopranos, played Johnny Ola in this movie. Great actor
He clearly had the makings of a varsity athlete.
Thanks for the info, i wondered from where i know thus guy
I was 22yrs. old when seeing the Godfather. Am 73 yrs. old now I will always love this movie. I thank you Micheal for truing your life around. The Heavenly Father has blessed me all these years, And Bless you for all you do.
You forgot to mention scene in the beginning between Michael and senator. That scene is the best scene in any film about what politicians are.
Great scene. You might recognize the senator. In Apocalypse Now he played the general that gave Capt. Willard the mission to kill Colonel Kurtz.
"My father's name was Antonio Andolini...... and this is for you!" most powerful scene ever
It’s actually “Questo e per te.” 🤣👍
whe he got shot i thought he yelled out "im going to the bookstore"!
@@JohnS-il1dr
Stabbed. Not shot. 🤦🏻♂️
Vito sliced that pig right 💪
Then flicks his hand off. As though even his blood and odour are disgusting. Very powerful scene indeed.
Godfather: "Wow, this movie is really good."
Godfather II: "This is even better."
Godfather III: "Look how they massacred my boy."
Lmfao
That’s good comedy there...
X-D Priceless.
Lmao!!!
Us Italians don’t talk about 3.... 🤣
To me, Godfather 1 & Godfather 2 are one movie. My favorite movie of all time! I just know, I was an italian in another life.
Same! ❤️
I totally agree!
Time is an illusion, a mere construct over a now reality...you are Italian in another simultaneous life!
@@juanitabarron4754 you look Italian
@@yvonneollivier7088 you are hitler in another timeline
My favorite scene was when Michael met Frank Pentangeli at his own house and made him sweat. Then the relief on Franks face when Michael says, “I want you to help me take my revenge.” Frankie Five Angels breathed a huge sigh of relief, and was like, “Mike, what do you want me to do?” BRILLIANT
The best about that Hyman Roth "I didn't ask why... this is the life we've chosen" is that it revealed the real anger that Hyman Roth had for Michael under his superficial charm. And why he plotted against him so much.
My favorite of the Godfather trilogy. The flashback scenes are epic.
Unbelievably good those flashbacks are. DeNiro was flawless in it. And them speaking Sicilian and not just regular Italian was brilliant too
I loved when they at one point showed The Godfather and Godfather 2 edited to run in timeline order. 3 was like some of the Chevy Chase movies that he was contracted to do and were just terrible.
@@danielueblacker9118 That was called the Godfather Epic. It wasn't off my TV when it was on HBO. I wish I would have recorded it. I made the mistake of relying on on demand thinking it would be there forever.
Robert Duvall was excellent in Godfather I and II and doesn’t get the recognition he deserves.
l agree with you Steve, Duvall's character always showed loyalty to the family and you can tell that Michael trusted him totally, even though he treated him like crap some times.
@@jbjoeychic Robert Duvall is a very under-rated actor. I remember him in his first movie, To Kill a Mockingbird, which I saw as a kid a LONG time ago. He was great in Colors, also.
@@slundgr --Gus McCrae in Lonesome Dove was probably his best role, anyway my favorite.
@@dandavis8300 For whatever reason, I have never seen Lonesome Dove, although I expect I'd like it. Who can forget Duvall in Apocalypse Now? I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like . . . victory.
I've not seen a movie with Duvall but what he was not excellent. Even in The Natural.
He does
Godfather II gets better everytime I watch it. The locations, Al Pacino, John Cazale, that sleazy senator, and the cast were amazing..
Especially the flashbacks too
I always have to watch 1 and 2 back to back. An excellent way to spend a rainy day.
Great to know I'm not the only one.🙂@@michaelward9880
John Cazale in both of them brilliant and legendary. Rest in peace John Cazale
Hey Micheal, I don't know if you know but the Cuba scenes where actually filmed here in Dominican Republic (because Castro wouldn't let them shoot any scenes over there) , you should come down here onces, we love you here too! 👍🏼
Wow that’s really interesting
I watched “Godfather 1” and “Godfather 2” countless times. I never tire of it. Greatest movies ever made. One look from Michael and your blood freezes. He is the epitome of walk softly and carry a big stick. Never see him coming.
Michael's body guard with the black top hat was an under rated, silent character.
Buestta was one of my favorite characters!!
He’s a fairly big character in the book
Top hat? Was he Abe Lincoln? That was a fedora.
Silente strong type like Gary Cooper
The Old Havana scenes were filmed in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Some of the sites are no longer standing (most memorably the Hotel Jaragua, were the balcony/solarium birthday scene was shot). Others still remain: the Palacio Nacional (New Year's ballroom scene) and Parque Independencia (Michael and Fredo's ice cream scene ).
Imagine being his kids and not watching these pieces of absolute perfection
I just wanna say the opening scene when Vito was a kid in sicilia was so realistic my mother who,s 94 from agrigento province.says she remembers similar incidents..but everything you see shot in sicilia was 100 percent accurate. Even the dialect..that's how it was back in the day..
Even tho I’m Napulitano that scene just resonates with me so much
Michael made a movie review we couldn't refuse, great job and these really make my day, God bless.
I love how Vito loved, respected his wife. Great video.
I cry every time I see it.
I'm not a religious man so I'm different to micheal but that aside I'm so glad that he has the platform that he has because his message is always positive ..and surprisingly sammy the bulls channel is also very good ...these guys are the real deal ...theyve lived through experiences that makes them unique
Your positive input into our lives Michael with your past experiences, Michael, I use this commentary with you as a solid ,indirect mentor in my daily life !
Wow, MF said your a "friend" of his. Some double life you lead. All due respect Mr. Cronin,
To me, they're just two parts of one movie so I can't judge them as two separate movies.
The way he explains in the intro about that scene is unreal haha! Goosebumps
I really like the ending. That final flashback was the pinnacle of the symbolism and represented the events to call me in the single frame of Michael in that dinner table where everyone was singing happy birthday to the Don.
I thought the Roth actor was so incredible, not surprising he’s a famous acting coach. He just dominates every scene he’s in.
ok
Lee Strasbourg.... he brought method acting to the US.
He really does steal every scene he’s in.
@@jesseberkowitz7862 for an actor who wasn't in anything else, he's fantastic! his daughter Susan was always good, and cute!.

You are a uniquely wise, sober, enlightening presence on this crazy, chaos-loaded box, Mr. Franzese.
Thank you for all your work.
Good sir, I like your videos. You are a very charismatic individual with lots of valuable knowledge. Not only are you very transparent regarding your past, but you also point out how this life is not as glamorous as it appears in the movies. Long story short, I think you are doing both something really important and entertaining. Good luck with your channel and all your future endeavors. Greetings from Germany
Michael Franzese is such a great story teller to listen to. Always spot on with his comments, while giving good advice to people.
He sincerely wants us to do well in our lives, and for us to help others, as he is helping us, through his TH-cam channel on a weekly basis, while speaking words of wisdom, to his audience. And that my friends, is a priceless gift from one human being to another.
Appolo, you said this so well ! All so true.
"He sincerely wants us to do well in our lives"
😂🤦♂️
Whenever I watched God Father I couldn't take my eyes off Al Pachino...He was amazing...
I always preferred Pacino myself
“Do you know who I am? I’m Moe Greene! I made my bones when you were going out with cheerleaders!”
The pride before the fall.
I talked to Barzini
"He was banging cocktail waitresses two at a time! Players couldn't get a drink at the table!"
@Girl With A Vengeance Fredo was like a sheltered kid that went off to college. He was wilding out in Vegas. I’m gonna have to check that scene again to see if I notice what you mentioned about Pacino.
You cannot talk to a man like Moe Greene LIKE THAT!
When both The Godfather and Godfather 2 came to the drive in where I lived in Orange County, Calif. There were cars lined up for miles! No exaggeration. It was phenomenal !
The fact that your father put a contact on both you and your brother.. and you still love him. Deep respect.
It was fake
His father was great, he was just in a system in which there are certain rules, probably was coerced into that or it wasn't him. If it was me i would understand, relationship between father and son when the atmosphere is tense and disturbing involves forgiving. Sonny was legendary in that life.
Your understanding of these mob films is ridiculously good. We’re blessed to have you! 💯. God bless u Micheal
Of course. He was a badass gangster back in the day. He knows everything about it.
The scene when Michael talks to his son before leaving and then the transition to 1917 with Vito Corleone watching toddler Michael is a gem.
That was Sonny. Michael wasn’t born in 1917, he was born in 1920.
That's probably true..... Santino was first. Family is family.
The best mob movie of all time without a doubt Robert De Niros performance in that movie was spectacular 😎🔥
@Girl With A Vengeance
Stop talking about Pacino ridiculous “ Divine D”🤣🤣
I love how you point out what the general audience misses. Great video!
Incidentally, a little fun fact, the "Moshulu" which transported the young Don to Ellis Island is anchored in the Delaware River in Philadelphia, you get a great view of it going North bound on I-95. I believe it's now a restaurant,
The actor that played a young, Genco, was the same actor in Good Fellas that played Carbone....."Make that coffee to go."
Another one is Jonny Ola is uncle Jr on the sopranos.
It took 3 days to thaw him out.
He was also in the first Godfather. He is in the background while Sonny was beating the hell out of Carlo.
@@doomvictor3934 I think that was Willie Chichi. Genco had passed away prior to that scene....I think.
@@willy565 I am talking about the actor that played young Genco in Godfather pt 2 He was an extra in the first movie.
Brando's nuanced performance is enigmatically captivating. One that's more-or-less impossible to follow even for killers like Pacino, De Niro and Duvall.
Wrong movie.
Marlon Brando was great.
Godfather I and Godfather II are incredible movies.
Godfather III was great too, but it was more of a 90's TV show than the gritty films before it.
I'm with you Mike. In a big private way. God Bless you and your family!!!
Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are my favorite actors
Interesting how they were never in any scenes together in any movie until The Irishman.

"You're not taking my children! You are NOT taking my children!"
Correction the murder.
Even mob guys get upset when their children are murdered
@@Mark-xh8md Absolutely, I ended up feeling the same way about Kay as I did about Carmela Soprano. They knew what they were getting into when they married and loved the money and the perks. Kay killing the baby after Michael had almost been killed and then walking out after the Senate hearings was unforgivable.

Frankie being serenaded by, “Pop Goes The Weasel” is some wonderful foreshadowing.
I’d love to watch a whole movie where Michael just narrates what’s going on on screen.
Michael and Joe Pistone doing a watch along for Donnie Brasco would be amazing.
A commentary track with Al Pacino in character as Michael Corleone.
Godfather 1&2 are the 2 greatest movies period. Soundtrack, editing, story, acting, locations, everything is perfect. Set a standard by which every great cinematic piece is judged.

Also another thing I like, Joe Spinell, one of my favorite character actors, appeared in both films. He was also a character in real life. If you ever get ahold of the Blu-ray edition of Maniac, make sure you watch the documentary of his life. A great but tragic Italian American actor.
"I know it was you Fredo......(kiss of death)......you broke my heart"
As much as I revere GFI , GFII is my favorite. Everything about it is perfect. It made me forever adore Pacino. He is mesmerizing as Michael in this and when he on screen you cannot take your eyes off him. The Hyman Roth character is played marvelously too..

There's so much going on in one scene with no dialogue. This movie has a lot of great moments like that.

When Mario Puzo passed away at his home I was the Funeral director who was there for the home transfer to the funeral home!
My favorite part of the entire Godfather trilogy is DiNiro's part as the young Vito. Everything about it is perfect. Set design, acting, script etc..
You should read the book "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo. It takes the story to a whole different level.
The Fortunate Pilgrim is really good.
Yeah, well. There's an awkward subplot that the book gives a lot of attention to for some reason that will have to be "overlooked".
It can make reading the book after watching the movies a surreal experience. That said, in some ways it's better; "it's always personal."
It doesn't get much better than the Godfather trilogy. Cheers to the Godfather of TH-cam, Michael Franzese 🇮🇹.
