Steel Dragon was my first giga and Hakugei was my first RMC and i totally agree Hakugei was more impressive but Steel Dragon has that bucket list factor
Steel Dragon is definitely a front row ride. I went to the park when it was completely empty, so Steel Dragon was a walk on for most of the day. Although it's a little rougher than I expected, the floater air on this ride is absolutely incredible! Thanks for the review Taylor! I'm always interested to see others opinions on rides like this.
Technically several mountain coasters are longer, but then again there’s also several mountain coasters that have a greater elevation change than Kingda Ka. Also, the B&M junior inverted coasters have 2-across trains.
It's actually just B&M stagger train that they "haphazardly" modified because of clearance issue Heck, they don't bother to make properly look chassis. They just drill the hole, move the seat and restrain to the center, and shut the old hole with cap
Taylor I just appreciate this channel so much. It's evident how much work you put into your content. They're thorough and well-organized, with great video footage. I am really just a GP who prefers more of a moderate thrill, but I have learned a lot about coasters from your videos and always enjoy every one regardless of what it's about. Plus you just have a friendly and calming way of communicating. I watch your videos to decompress for 10-15 minutes during lunch on crazy days at work. I sometimes re-watch ones I've already seen to relax before sleep. Keep up the great work.
Taylor just reminded me of when I went to Cedar Point for the first time and rode Steel Vengeance in the pouring rain. It was an unforgettable ride experience because not only were we on the back row getting insane ejector airtime, but the rain got us completely soaked and it hurt like little bullets hitting your face. I was trying to hold my hands up, but I kept lowering them towards my face to cover it from the rain, my Step Dad next to me had his rain jacket completely zipped up and covering his head. It was crazy, and I was laughing for so long after we got off. I will never forget that ride on Steel Vengeance in the rain.
Thanks for doing this! About the restraints... From what I heard, it originally had the Morgan big bucket trains, but a wheel came off one of them and hit someone in the pool. He survived, but he did break ribs/a hip. So they replaced the trains with B&M ones.
Yes, these are new trains. I rode this on the original trains, but I cannot really compare them to anything since I've not really ridden any other big ones. They didn't even have the Hakugei back then, there was "White Cyclone" at the same location.
@@laju I wish I got to do this. I figured it probably isn't as good as the newer giga's (it is almost 20 years old after all), but it is the longest coaster in the world. And it's just a marvel to look at as well.
I always found it interesting that B&M would be willing to make trains for this ride- it's such a strange project, and I can't imagine they'd want their name associated with another incident like the wheel accident if one were to occur.
@@ElementerChannel honestly their only other choice was Intamin. But Morgan track here was much wider than Intamin track. Whereas B&M had both made a giga, and had perfect size train gauge for its track
This was (and still is) the biggest coaster I’ve ever ridden and man, it was beyond anything I had ever experienced. I had no idea it was even at the park, or famous - I’d only visited on a whim with a couple of backpackers I met the day before. Nearly had kittens when I saw it on the horizon from the bus window. We beelined straight for it once we got in and it was only as the cars were climbing up the hill that I became aware of what I was in for. The ground seemed forever away but when I looked back up, the coaster was only a third of the way up. The first fall was so long and so fast, we were falling for ages, then there were two more big hills after the first. The whole ride was just FUN. I loved the little hills at the end too, making my belly do backflips the whole way. Couldn’t stop laughing when I got off. I’m sure there are better coasters out there, but if I could choose any ride in the world to visit, I’d go back to this one. It’s special. 🐉
I have never ridden any of the other morgan hypers, and I thought this was absolutely insane when I rode it, it had the best helix i have ever been on, it’s kinda strange but that was my favorite part of the ride, it was not the smoothest, but it just gave me a sensation that made me start laughing
Probably because there are things that you could kick or hit your feet on. Because it was originally built with boxy, enclosed trains, it wasn’t built with clearances for trains that allow riders to have free leg movement.
Before I even watch this review, I just want to say that Steel Dragon 2000 is an amazing anamoly of a coaster. It's the only giga that feels like a supersized hypercoaster ala Magnum. It truly is Super Magnum and definitely one of the best I've ever ridden. I honestly couldn't determine if I preferred Hakugei or SD2000, it's awfully close. The turnaround on this thing is just epic.
Team Fortress 2 MEDIC! Team Fortress 2 MEDIC! It's a pretty good review though I can't say I completely agree with everything. Having the open and much more comfortable B&M trains is a clear plus over the older Morgan trains so I'm not sure why that is a questionable/negative aspect. Sure the clamshells are unnecessary but that's just Japan for you. Most of the rest of his points I agree with except for the sensation of speed: this ride definitely feels very, very fast to me except on the bunny hops on the trip back to the station. And for me the large turnaround is also a major plus, it's much better than a long, drawn out helix or just an ordinary turnaround like B&M's usually have, and I especially love the steady positive G's it provides, especially as the end of the turnaround when you are hauling past the mall low to the ground. It is admittedly not Fury, but that's to be expected. Maybe the heavy rain affected his opinion on it. I fortunately got to ride Steel Dragon many times, to me it was very re-ridable and I definitely would rather be on the coaster instead of watching it. SO all in all I give this 7.5/10 review of Steel Dragon 7.5 and I'd give Steel Dragon itself an 8.5/10. I def agree that it's the least good of the 3 gigas I've ridden, with MForce barely edging it out, and Fury far and away in the front.
It's originally a standard Morgan Hyper. But they wanna a record Instead of made a proper layout, they just add more track to burn off the speed before entering the basically "Morgan standard" second half.
I didn’t know it was Morgan track, I just thought the track was manufactured for Morgan by Togo because when you see some other togos the track looks identical.
I totally understand the rain experience rode millenium force 3rd row (shorter wait and higher seating than 2nd row) in the rain this year and it's the 2nd time I've ever covered my eyes on that ride
An excellent ride despite the train flaws. I wouldn’t call the ride rough at all, but I did feel like I was vibrating, a very strange feeling. It’s unfortunate this ended up being Morgan’s last major coaster.
You've conquered every gigacoaster! Congratulations! How would you compare this to the B&M hypercoasters? The layout seems reasonably similar to them (though taller.) I get that you think it is similar to the Morgan hypercoasters (for obvious reasons.) But do you prefer B&M hypercoasters to this giga?
I rode Superman - Ride of Steel at Six Flags America in the pouring rain and it was just about the most fun I've ever had on a coaster!! I remember waiting in the station and being next in line, looking outside and seeing it start to rain and was like YES YES YES RAIN RIDE TIME!!!
This is basically a giga coaster with a ‘hyper coaster’ layout as it is packed with airtime hills as opposed to being all about intense transitions and staying low to the ground. My thoughts are that this coaster would be better if it were actually B&M but back then, B&M was just starting to make hypers and didn’t create their first giga until 2012. Still, if I ever get a chance to go to Japan, I will definitely check Nagashima Spa Land out.
5 things that would make Steel Dragon 2000 the best giga: 1) Be glossy smooth. 2) Every hill give Phantom's Revenge level airtime. 3) The turns be banked less to give laterals. 4) No trims. 5) Steeper drop.
I rode intimidator 305 in the rain and I was covering my face too. I rode volcano the blast coaster(RIP) in the front row while it was raining. It was my first time on volcano too.
I know it looks the same as a Morgan hyper but I can imagine the extra height has to make a difference I mean it’s 3rd hill alone is already taller than all of the American Morgan hypers and the 2nd is taller than freaking Goliath and Titan.
I rode this in march in the rain when the park was deserted and got around 10 rides on it. as long as you arent in the front row the rainy experience makes it better imo but i was wearing sunglasses
I know that feeling- riding a Giga, front row, in the pouring rain. I got a ride like that with Fury 325 this year and I was the only person in the front row. It was great and painful all in one shot. I'm guessing this wasn't even your second favorite ride in the park after Hakugei.
I'm pretty sure the whole reason the B&M trains were added was so the park could avoid a repeat of an accident from 2004 that left the ride SBNO for nearly two years where one of the wheels on the original Morgan trains flew off and struck a guest visiting the water park. This would make sense since the B&M trains are much lighter and have much easier to access wheel assemblies, making for easier maintenance. This might also be a possible explanation for the shin guards, as unnecessary as they are. It's kinda like the shoulder pads they added to Mindbender at Galaxyland. They don't need to be there at all, but the park management probably insisted on having them anyway just to reassure any skeptical GP guests that the ride is safe.
Ouch, coasters in the rain... Rode Seven Dwarfs (of all coasters) one year after it opened, and a major rain storm popped up. The rain was so bad, I believe we were even placed in a tornado watch. I'll tell you though, that really really hurt... Especially with the rain shooting into my eyes; I trusted my glasses a little too much.
I rode this a few months ago, it was around 100 feet taller than anything I had ridden before, and it was absolutely amazing (although I was terrified on the lift hill)
Taylor I know what you mean about riding in the rain. I rode i305 in April in the pouring rain and oh God that rain stung my face and I had to close my eyes.
It seems like you really enjoyed watching it because you said, “I for real think I enjoyed watching it more than riding it.” But you still gave it a 7.5/10 and said it wasn’t a bad ride.
How wild this coasters second drop was until a few years ago still in the top 10 biggest? Hell how many coasters can boast that their 3rd drop would still count as a hyper LOL. Always liked the look of the turnaround. This structure itself is just so awesome. Shame the right itself is so lackluster I mean I never expected it to be great but figured itd feel fast or have major pull over those hills. Seems not. It really is just a bigger steel force it seems. Shame. That said there is a possible Japan trip in the future and if so will I ride this? Yes lol
SSJ2 Ultibolt I definitely have enough footage to have the ability to parody it, but if I do, it’ll definitely be a while. I haven’t 100% decided yet if i’m going to. I am consulting my options.
Shin Guards are on Flying Coasters witch are Leg Flaps and I don’t think that’s even needed on a coaster that is not under the track and needs to keep your feet from being Chopped off but on one above the track Shin Guards are not really needed
I’ve ridden Steel Force several times and this sounds like its big brother. I mean I’d like to ride it someday, but it definitely won’t beat I305 which is the only giga I’ve ridden.
this just proves that stats don't matter, so if you're the ride manager of a park DON'T GO FOR RECORDS!!! save the money of the height and make it more compact
@@willthecreator The park shouldn't have gone for stats though. They should've gone for something like a B&M Invert at around the 35-45 meter height range.
I remember riding I305 during Halloween Haunt at Kings Dominion one year at it started to rain, and oh yeah it was about 47 degrees out that night!....OOOOUUUUCCHHH!😭
i know the pain of riding a fast coaster while it's raining. i remember riding the incredible hulk at isle of adventure. storm was passing through, and they wouldnt run the ride till the thunder stopped. once it did they let me ride, but oh man that rain hitting my face was like needles or bee stings. was a fun experience thou
@@mattiasdanieldamsgaardwood1315 No, because Cedar Point has a big bunch of world-class coasters. How many does Europapark have? It's a great park, but the coasters are nowhere near the best in Europe even.
Other than the reduced capacity I really don't understand the complaints regarding the trains, talk about nitpicking. I rate this giga higher than Orion and Leviathan and equal with Millennium Force.
went on the recently, (June '23) and my god is it rough, rode it in the back and the middle, and came off both rides shaken and with a massive headache, definitely a looker and not a rider!
I kinda agree even tho I have not ridden this. It does look like a fun ride for sure but it does not seem like the best giga coaster. I would say Leviathan is better because of the superior airtime and speed during the ride and that ride is also pretty much a huge hyper coaster. But B&M made it so well into a giga because of that speed. I think the B&M trains are a lot better on this coaster than the original Morgan trains even if the track isn't as smooth but ain't rough. Again looks really fun but nothing noteworthy i would say. I think Morgan did the best they could tho so i will give em credit for that :)
I've done Millennium Force in the rain and it felt like someone dropped a large bucket of needles on me and that was in the back row! I can't imagine the front row of MF in the rain!
I have a genuine question- do you usually compare coasters in metric or imperial? I feel like so many of the coaster categories like giga or hyper are in imperial that using metric would possibly be confusing?
No Jarret, Red Force is not a traditional giga like he said. It could be considered a giga if someone was talking strictly about height classifications, but technically it's an "LSM Launch Coaster" according to Intamin.
Can we take a moment to appreciate how clean and shiny those trains are?!?! They practically look brand new!!

I believe those trains were added in 2013, and it seems that Nagashima Spa Land is taking good care of those trains~

I remember seeing this on the discovery channel when I was a youngin lol figured it wouldn’t be nearly as good as the other gigas.
Are you gonna do a parody of this one (or have the footage to allow for one).
SSJ2 Ultibolt I definitely have enough footage to have the ability to parody it, but if I do, it’ll definitely be a while. I haven’t 100% decided yet if i’m going to. I am consulting my options.
@@CoasterStudios Ok Thanks for Replying and creating this great content.
Shin Guards are on Flying Coasters witch are Leg Flaps and I don’t think that’s even needed on a coaster that is not under the track and needs to keep your feet from being Chopped off but on one above the track Shin Guards are not really needed
You could compare this Orion. Since it dives into a floater airtime hill.
how are you able to travel to ride all these coasters? lol i need your job
Look at Wicker Man. Not very tall or fast, but people love it.
TheSpanish Pota the general public at American park would eat this thing alive I couldn't imagine
@@willthecreator The park shouldn't have gone for stats though. They should've gone for something like a B&M Invert at around the 35-45 meter height range.
Rode it in May and found it extremely rough. I would even say it jackhammered in some places.
Just wondering
What’s the cedar point of Europe
Hamilton Hickman Energylandia coming in fast
EUROPA PARK OF COURSE!!!!!!
I would cry if I went on that
Havent ridden a giga in the rain but millenium at night was like a hailstorm of mayflies in may.. Omg we were covered in bug goo lol
I've done Millennium Force in the rain and it felt like someone dropped a large bucket of needles on me and that was in the back row! I can't imagine the front row of MF in the rain!
Could you please also show stats in metric? Would appreciate ❤
I have a genuine question- do you usually compare coasters in metric or imperial? I feel like so many of the coaster categories like giga or hyper are in imperial that using metric would possibly be confusing?
When will you be ranking the coasters that you rode in Japan?
Jo000000ey Martin i’ll do one after I have done individual reviews of all of my favorites in the country.
Does Red Force not count as a giga?
No Jarret, Red Force is not a traditional giga like he said. It could be considered a giga if someone was talking strictly about height classifications, but technically it's an "LSM Launch Coaster" according to Intamin.
You haven’t experienced true rain induced pain until you ride a b&m invert front row in pouring rain...
TheFrozenFireball I rode Batman in the rain last year and I still regret that decision.
@@2DamnSeddy My rain ride was the front row on Banchee at Kings Island.
Btw it ain't the only 2 seat wide b&m train as there family invert has 2 seat wide trains
