  • When it comes to roller coasters everyone has heard of the loop de loop. But have you heard of a cobra roll, a bunny-hop, or even a zero-G roll? Believe it or not, these are all names of roller coaster elements, just like the humble vertical loop. Today, roller coasters can do a huge number of unique things, most of which have their own special name. In this video we'll explore the most common elements found on roller coasters, including it's name and how it can be identified.

    Great coverage. I would also add a note on how a lot of the element types and styles were tied to their manufacturers. For example, how the original Boomerang was made by Arrow and commonly became referred to as the "Arrow Boomerang" despite the first installation in the Orient Express at Worlds of Fun referring to it as the "Kamikaze Curve". Then there was the Vekoma Boomerang which gave birth to the B&M Cobra Roll. Also, Arrow's boomerang was comprised of two "sidewinders" and one installation had the second sidewinder exiting the opposite side of the prevailing direction of travel, resulting in the "Bowtie" element on Dragon Mountain from 1983. Admittedly, the more that element design became more fluid and versatile, and thus less modular, the differences between the manufacturers have dissipated and aren't as clear cut as they were from 1975 through about 1991.

    My favorite element has got to be the simple corkscrew. Put a corkscrew and a turn right after it and I don’t know what’s going on for the rest of the ride. I don’t quite grey out but it’s always the corkscrews that catch me off guard… batman the ride and nighthawk for example.
    I also love heartline rolls. They’re just epic and add great diversity to rides. They look cool too

  • @Emma-np8ff
    @Emma-np8ff 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My favorites are zero g stalls and rolls. They are very fun on thunderbird! They give a lot of hang time and what feels like airtime. Storm chasers inversions are epic! The first drop is crazy. It’s very fun and gives airtime, and then there is ejector hills!

    I was one of the last people to go on The Swarm when it ran a set of backwards seats on the end of the train. Went with some friends, they all sat in the front facing row, I sat on my own, literally, on my own, in the backwards seat. It was a completely different ride, 100% more amazing than facing forward

    • @coasterbot

    I just got back from my five day trip to SF Magic Mountain and Knott's Berry Farm five hours ago! After that, (and my 2 week trip to England in late Oct/Early Nov.) I can appreciate the footage. My favourite elements are drops, camelbacks, and post MCBR dips, (I guess I'm a traditional coaster enthusiast) but I'll enjoy any element done well. It all depends on the coaster; for example The Smiler has none of these elements and it's my favourite coaster at Alton Towers. Then again; my favourite element in that coaster is the airtime hill in the 2nd half. Too much more for me to cover here right now, except to say thanks for this video!

    My faviourate element on a coaster is a good old classic full inversion loop or 2 or 3 if I can get it...its just so satisfying going from a big deep dive off a hill plunging down in to a plain full inversion...the anticipation is amazing and it dosnt even need to be fast to enjoy just cruise on threw it all...love it miss it...the first coaster I actually remember the feeling of was torn down years ago...so sad...buy buy thunder loop thriller from dreamworld Queensland Australia.
