The 1979 coin is a Susan B. Anthony dollar coin. Not a Sacagawea.

About that Sacagawea, my grandpa has like, 40 uncirculated 2000 Sacagawea dollars in a bag, so according to that post he's made about, 1.2 million dollars. Lol.

You know what grinds my gears? When people make comment saying "hello i have rare coin 1972 1979 want to sell you buy", and stuff like that. Some of them literally drop their phone number in there too. They're so obviously fake.
Yeah you wouldn't believe the amount of comments I get like that haha. 90% of the time, they are just trying to sell common American pocket change too!

I've seen these listings for some time now. I've seen a "rare" beat to hell 1964 Jefferson nickel for four or five figures. I don't understand why Etsy doesn't police this garbage.

I think this is criminal. I have contacted Etsy and they don't care. Everyone should report them to the FTC, the Secret Service, and every consumer affairs division in the nation until Etsy acts responsible.
ETSY has no ethics. If they did they would have a report this post option. Normally it's Buyer Beware but ETSY is Buyer be scammed.

I’ve noticed these too. Personally, I’ve always wondered if these are some sort of money laundering scheme. Someone sells contraband, and advises their customer that in order to purchase the product they need to buy a “rare coin” at which point they contraband would be delivered to the buyer, while the government believes the customer is simply stupid. Thoughts?

These are great. There was some idiot on eBay trying to sell $31 face in clad half dollars and $1 face in silver halves for $350. I offered him $33 as a joke. He sent me back a message that he was insulted by the offer. I told him if he wants I can sell them $500 worth of clad have for just under three grand and he can then sell them on eBay.
If that 65 quarter had a mint mark, i'll take it. All coins minted in 1965, 66, and 67 do not have mint marks. The coinage act of 1965 banned the use of mint marks on coins for 5 years but in 1968 Congress approved the return. It also moved mints to the obverse side of coins as needed. Also most coins dated 1964 were actually minted in 65 and 66. Glad I started saving those pre 65 silver coins as a kid.
Maybe the Susan B. Anthony seller thought the 11-sided inner edge was some kind of offset or broadstrike?

I ended up here with a search of "esty offering fake 'rare' coins" after seeing a "rare" 1964 penny with no mint mark offered for $500. Uh.... they made 2.653 BILLION of these in Philadelphia that year....
From what I found the CAONA is some place that sells jewelry and stuff I haven’t found a coin on there so they just found a random place and printed a sticker that
That "1943 copper penny" is in a do it yourself plastic holder. For sure not a legit coin nor holder.
Plus the 3 doesn't have a tail like the 9 does. It's clearly an altered 8.

I bought 2 coins from etsy a 2005 west virginia quarter s. Ms-69 pcgs for 9 dollars and a 1876 cc dime for 50 dollars

Found a 1900 IHP in my yard, looked up the value and on etsey $25,000 mine is in much better shape so $100,000 should be a fair asking price.😆🤪

Any slabbed coins needs a closer look, they too can be faked. I have strange coins that are genuine, a 1942 5 Ore from Sweden that is made from Iron, two 1977 100 yen from Japan, a 1980 Bahamas dime with a odd edge, a 1977 Canadian dollar that is octagonal, a Bimetallic 2009-R Italian 2 Euros, and a potentially very rare 1942 Steel 50 Lira from Italy.
These people on Etsy aren't really finding any buyers....are they ?
Unlikely. Some of the posts say things like "20 other people have this in their cart!", but we suspect that those 20 other people are just 20 fake accounts that the seller created to make their listing look more legit and desirable

I can add a mark to a coin if I P on it. You would not believe how many customers came in to the local coin shop swearing the had 100 of $$ in rare coins and were just spenders.
Wow, 7,000 for a parking lot quarter. or i can go search the snowbanks that are melting up at the store for free. these guys selling that cant be seriously thinking its an error coin.
There are good deals but they are scarce i have gotten a holed AU 1829 half dime for 25 bucks and a slick 1802 large cent for 15 bucks

The only way I would pay that kind of money for a coin is through Monopoly money!
They didn't even get the right size coin flip for the Sacagawea!
Also on on Etsy I found someone was selling a 1943-P Steel cent (cause I was doing research on the steel cents from 1944) in F-XF condition for 50000 and the the way they said this is funny they have the clicking part say “1943 steel Lincoln wheat penny magnetic not graded” and I laughed at them
Then another person is selling a 1942-P cent for again 50,000 and they say it was made by a miracle in a Siberian labor camp
They really think some idiot will eventually come along and shell out 10s of thousands for a penny. Its so funny to me. That being said , when the dollar is totally worthless and i find trash bags full of dollars in a dumpster then hell yeah ill buy a couple of em. Your right though, not everybody are scammers on Etsy so people, please USE some common cents and dont LOOSE your booty or your pants LOL
Coins aren't an "essential" need. Etsy should remove all of the listings with price gouging like Amazon did for hand sanitizer. Etsy is just stupid.

My great-grandfather has crazy old Indian head cents and silver Washington quarters, the oldest Indian head dates around the 1880's and the oldest silver Washington Quarter dates in the 1930's.
Tbh, I have several foreign coins that I want to keep, except the one who have the exact same date.

It would have been nice if you could have educated people on the real Sacagawea dollar that is a real coin that is very rare. The rare one was put out by the Cheerios cereal company and was made from a special coin printing die. This coin's back has a printing of a eagal that has 14 tail feathers and not 13 like the regular die that the U.S. mint put into circulation. The Cheerios company put into their boxes a total of 10 million Sacgawea dollar's and 10 million 2000-P cents. So when someone is saying they are selling a 2000-P Sacagawea dollar for a high price they are referring to the special die variety that has a split middle tail feature that gives the dollar that 14th feather. But don't be fooled this coin is very rare and sells from between $10,000 and $25,000 depending on grade. But most that say they are saling this dollar do NOT have that rare dollar they have the regular 2000-P Sacagawea dollar. I myself know what this dollar looks like but most new coin collectors do not so be careful not to buy any wooden nickels. Fun intended there. Lol

And there are no shortage of laissez faire numbskulls on the Etsy community site that defend the practice. Some, I’ll admit, simply don’t seem to grasp that the coins _are_ being (mis) represented as being one or two hundred years old, and simply parrot "let the buyer beware" as consumer fraud an/or ripping off aged, ignorant or mentally challenged weren’t an acctual problem.
I suspect virtually everyone of these free market defenders would be the first to squeal for a refund if they felt they’d been taken advantage of.
