  • The beginnings of metal hybrids all trace back to these little rescues. Adams had one, Taylormade had one. Let's not forget the classic Spalding XE hollow bodied irons ( • 1985-1988 Spalding XE ... . Now we can look back and see what stuck and what didn't.

So, I was in my local pro shop picking up supplies, and I came across this exact club for cheap. I couldn’t believe I stumbled upon the original hybrid design that started it all! Myself, I’m an iron guy, and always will be. That said, I bought this club for the nostalgia aspect, and wanted to learn how to hit it. At first, it was not pretty, however I went through 15-20 balls and started to figure it out. Now, I can smoke this beast 200+ yards straight as an arrow, and I love it. It’s my go to 5 wood replacement club sitting at an 18 degree loft and saves my ass off the fairway. Imagine that, a 20+ year old club serving me as a premiere utility weapon in my bag.
If you can learn how to hit this club, you will love it!

Part 2. This hybrid has virtually no offset, consequently the dreaded Hook from hybrids is absent from this model it's easy to move the ball in either direction. I have tried all different models of modern hybrids and end up hooking and popping them this is the only model hybrid that I can trust with consistency to me, it plays more like an iron than a wood or hybrid to sum up, if you are more comfortable with irons than hybrids and woods you need to try this club for me,, it's a total winner

Taking a OG Rescue wood out tomorrow with a 8-iron, a PW and a putter and I’ll see if I too will hate it. 😅

TGIF!!!! I had this club when it came out! Steel shaft though. The loft I think was 16* maybe?................Sweet! Loved it! Hit it a ton. Man that club wasn't the most forgiving......Hook city, but it bombed it! Thanks for the fond memory once again.

My friend gifted me this club. I have a 5 wood already. This is my 14th club in the bag and figured why not toss it in there with my newer Callaways. If I replaced it what should I get? I feel like the ball flies if you hit it right and this works in deep rough.

I would have liked to have seen him hit off the grass, known the yardages he hit, as well as learned the history behind the club and the related firesole set. Come on Vintage Golfer, give us the timeline! Give us the history! Hell, even interview some other golfers from that era and see what they have to say.

Thought I would pop in and add counterpoint to your video. I appreciate what you're saying about this club. However, my experience has been the polar opposite of yours.

Didn't cobra make "baffler" hybrids that were wood with crazy rails on the bottom? Also are you dressing intentionally vintage?

I think hybrid clubs are cheaters or something of that nature. I'm old school, I'd rather the true irons any day.

I just got one in 24 degree, was hoping it would be good out of the woods and rough. It was so pretty I had to have it to try. I have only hit it into my net but it felt good.

@@lawbinson no, it doesn't stay in my bag because I have two other hybrids that I love too much to give up - I have taken it on a few rounds and it works great - I may mount it on the wall it is so pretty
