The 80% of your pie chart that represents family and friends, for me, was the reason I bought a boat. A little over 4 years ago, my father told me I was too old to live on a boat. I sent him a link to one of your videos and told him "If I'm too old to live on a boat then these folks are WAY too old". He watched the video and changed his tune. You and a lot of other channels are the other 20% of why I bought a boat. That and fulfilling a dream I held onto since the age of 8. - S/V Celtic Star
@tomd.3082 Great to hear. I am 57 and as soon as I no longer care for my mother I will be getting a boat and living on it… and sailing to wherever I want with no one demanding my time. I stopped sailing originally because I never had time and the boat sat there costing money, going nowhere. Not this time! Fair winds and all that :)
Bless you both for having such family-based priorities! I'm looking forward to following your new adventures and all the new wonderful places you will be able to show us.
Welcome home guys. I have been watching your channel since ESPER went into refurbishment at Satun. I have loved watching your adventures over the years, thanks you so much for letting us into your lives. Good luck with your future plans.
You just popped up on my feed, I think your both fantastic ❤your very intuitive and your doing the right thing after your 20 years of adventures, I really do admire you, love your new boat 😊 I live in Shropshire and I’m going on a half day fish and chips Canal trip on the Staffordshire canal area x good luck and I’m following you.
Just found your channel! Glad to be in at the start of your new adventures and will enjoy slowly seeing glimpses of your past life!! You seem to have made the right decision.
We're excited by the new challenges, even though they'll be at a slower pace than some of our previous adventures. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 🙏 Liz
Reducing the price for broken items rather than replacing them is the best advice for selling that people don't get - and also people wanting to list it far, far higher in price than it's worth.
I can relate to your pie chart 💯%. Having now lost both parents, I understand your desire to be nearer while they are still active. Aging, relentless heat, thyroid condition, hassle just to do the simplest things, having done it for 20+ years already...I'm thrilled for your new direction. I look forward to what lies ahead. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I figured the pie chart was a simple way of getting across our primary motivation. Now that we've got that out the way, we can move on to exciting new plans 😁
Great to hear of this new adventure. Sounds like narrowboat life is beckoning. I lived on a 70ft narrowboat for 10yrs and loved it. Looking forward to the next episode.
We sold our yacht as too hot in the tropics most times there was no where to escape the relentless heat, totally understand what your saying …..think of all the nice pubs at your door !
Love to see you but sorry that you are living the boat. We have seen all episodes and liked it. Which you all luck with your next step. We keep on sailing in the north of Sweden when we don’t have ice. Take care❤️
I've been slower to get to these videos, lately, so I apologize for not commenting earlier. Having seen you videos over the last couple of years mentioning your family, I can fully understand. In fact, I was not at all surprised that this is your explanation. I lost my mother 11 years ago, and my father 2 years before that, so I can fully understand this decision. On the other hand, I'm in New England, right now, where it's -17 C, so the right clothing is a lot of clothing. I look forward to what happens next on your channel.
Hi Jamie & Liz, From Norman & Jila who once berthed Mary Lou alongside Esper in Yachtmarine. All good things come to an end and I think we all know that sailing was a very good thing. I am sure you will miss Esper just as much as we miss our boat. Whatever you are going to do, good luck and enjoy the new adventure. I was amused by your reasons not to buy a boat including the loud call to prayer now that minarets have loudspeakers instead of one man's voice. It never bothered us much in Turkey, except one mosque in Fethiye where the recording started and ended with a loud squawk!
All makes sense. Looking forward to what comes next. I am doing it the other way round. My older two kids are adults. I care for my mum who is 86 in February. Sooooo it’s not going to be a narrowboat? You won’t convince me on the cold VS heat… BUT I have not spent 20 years living in the tropics. I will always have air con and have followed the stand alone systems and there are now good options with low power demand. I have always sold houses and cars super rapidly because I sell similarly to how you did. It’s largely common sense… but still mad how wrong people get it. When we moved house we had a buyer within 10 days… while our neighbors had been on the market for (literally) years.
Hopefully the technology will continue to improve regarding AC. Normally the heat isn't an issue when at anchor though, it's going ashore and moving around land that it can be a problem. Lots of love to your ma!
@ thank you I showed her your comment. She taught me to sail… have some great old pics of her sailing in the 50s. Sorry if I said that already. Have you seen the air con system Clark on Clark’s Adventures has invented? Amazing system. Can easily run off a house bank and is enough to cool a cabin and run quietly all night. The Ecoflow Wave 2, basically for camping, also gets great reviews… can run it as a standalone unit with its own solar panels… or use various other methods to charge its battery… then it will run for 10 plus hours off its own battery.
Still watching your video but please no to a narrow boat. Yes I have done narrow boat holidays when the kids were little, but couldn't imagine doing it long term. Can I suggest finding a suitable sailing boat with not too deep draft and take her down through the French waterways. Take your time and tour on the way hang out in Paris for a while. My parents brought our Sigma 33 back up from the Med and they said it was some of the best times they had. The draft was a problem (5'9") in some of the smaller canals but they managed. loads of drama in the big locks but loads to see and very very peaceful. It is on my bucket list. Relatively easy to get home or just park up and come home for a month. You could drag it out for a full year if you wanted. Lots of walking and easy with a dog if you do the paperwork.
Congratulations on your decision to find another path to adventure! It seems so many people see changing plans as 'giving up' which is total bosh. And adding your voice to the issue of coping with heat, not being able to explore during the day, but just get by, all day, is much appreciated!! All the best 👍
"...many people see changing plans as 'giving up' which is total bosh..." You speak the truth! We grow, evolve and change, and staying where you are is often the easy route. Cheers! Liz 🙏
It us so good to see you both again back in the UK. Kudos😅 0:05 to you for loving your family and showing it! I heartedly commend you for that! Getting a dog will be Fantastic and make you a family again😊 I’m excited for you both and I’m sure your family and friends will love having you there and nearby . It’s exciting for you both and alot to do that you will love! You come from a beautiful country and now you are Home!❤😊
This is true. We have close friends who do not understand our drive to be closer to our family, they just don't get it. We know sailors who want to be as far away from their family too. Each to their own.
Hi guys, I think it’s important myself to be back home with your parents before anything happens to them I lost my father in 1988 and my mother in 2002 and still is painful to this day and I believe sometimes you need a change in the direction of your life sailing around sounds very good and easy but I know personally it’s not everyone’s got this dream that you just stick the sails up and the way you go
Great post folks! We have watched your channel for so long without subscribing- our sincere apologies but now we have! Thanks for all your great videos and wonderful photos and stories. If you are getting a dog we can promise you after owning several dogs you must get a border collie they are the smartest kindest loving dogs ever! Also we gave up our sailboat in the tropics much sooner than you did for different but similar reasons. So looking forward to seeing what you guys do next! Steve and Heather Dunn
Better late than never, and welcome aboard! 🙂 I love border collies, but it will be up to what the rescue centre suggests... All dogs are gorgeous, aren't they 🐕 Peace and sunny days! Liz x
I come from Cyprus but living in Denmark for 28 years now. I can easier deal with the cold here than I can deal with the terrible heat in Cyprus! So I know what you are talking about
Hi guys, sounds like your timeline for selling Esper was about the same as ours last year and yes there is an old saying in sales that the first offer is often the best. Thanks for all the wonderful times you let us share and also thanks for fueling my dream of achieving a little of your lives, you managed 20 years while we only did 2, but it was an experience we won’t forget and at least we can say we followed our dreams! Looking forward to your next adventure, see you down the towpath. Cheers Mac and Moon
A lot of the time we think we're living in the moment, but often we're only kidding ourselves. For me, I'll always strive to do just that, but often get carried away with living in the future; living in the past is not healthy. Cheers! 🙏
Thank goodness there is nothing wrong with the two of you I have been worried like most of us. I have speculated that one or both of you were ill but the truth is that you have finally caught up with me you are just getting old. So I'm glad to find out that you're okay. So go ahead and show us this new longboat you have bought.
Totally understand you point of view. Facing a slightly similar situation, but different inasmuch I want to move my trawler to Thailand from Turkey, as my partner is Thai, but can't due to shipping costs.. I have house in Uk,,,but live there very little (just few month/year) but hate Uk climate. Hopefully you can cope with Uk climate!!!! Nevertheless, exited for your plans,,,,you know well what you want to do. Perhaps Mediterranean would be a better plan? Nearer and not difficult to come and go, BUT beware,,,,the marina prices have gone absolutely crazy €4,500 tp 13,800 in 7 years!!!) Very best wishes David
I love your podcasts, and I'm delighted to hear your experience and thoughts about the cruising lifestyle. I agree, don't worry about faulty equipment. Today, most buyers will likely replace any antique plotters and radars and put in their favorite stuff, particularly for electronics. I will continue to follow your UK adventures. Cheers.
We totally get it…we are still having a dual lifestyle…..We have been been watching you two since day dot…..we are really looking forward to your next journey……really looking forward to it, coz we know how creative you both are….so chill guys….create! 👍🇳🇿🇳🇿
If you have your health you are never too old I started sailing after I retired and just sail within my own limits . Spending overnights and weekends on the hook is great fun . It is not some far off place but it is still sailing
I fully understand all your points on why to move back home again. Or at least near home, since you will probably still continue travelling sround in one way or another. I only sail on summers and weekends and still find the boat life sometimes a bit weary 😂 Everything (i.g. getting stuff out of the kitchen cabinets) is tiny bit more difficult when living from a boat. And I have always wondered how you TH-camrs survive in the tropical heat. I would never and it was refreshing to hear that you Liz didnt either. Family of course comes first on everything, so I get your reasoning. Will be following your adventures with pleasure. Ans yes, I am subscribing - of course - have been and will be for years.
Wow startling perspective and you’ve done 20 years wow how cool Iv been following you at least 8 years probably more I’m almost 60 and dreaming of going off selling the house and sailing away but you have put a different spin on things I need to consider
I'd still recommend it. If it hadn't been for the family ties we might well have carried on! And it took 20 years of living this way to decide we'd try something new... 🙏 Liz
Happy new year to you and your loved ones. Fully understand your need to be home with family. My parents are 92 and living across the road from my house. They depend heavily on me and my sisters. John’ mum will be 80 in March please God. She lives 2.5 hours drive away but we try to get down as much as possible. Now John has just retired we’re available for more sailing time so we will be flying back to Ireland from Atlantic European coast once this season starts. Definitely will be home for my parents 70th wedding anniversary in June❤ Exciting you will be getting a rescue dog. Our dog is the daughter of our 2 rescues
Wish you both Best Wishes for the next adventure! The family is sacred and not eternal, the UK has plenty of water to live in pure beauty! My English teacher (who was English and born in Portugal) used to tell us that the UK is protected by clouds, fog and rain! It's beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Like others here I was beginning to think one of you was ill or that your relationship had ended. So pleased and relived its not those reasons that you have moved. Looking forward to seeing what vessel you move into next and your next talk from the table of bollocks! 🎉
Yeah, as we get older, we start realizing not only our parents mortality, but our own mortality. Things we thought we had as priority suddenly start looking as not so important and then we start prioritizing a different set of things, situations, and life because what is important changes as we get older and in the back of our mind we always know that this day will come, things will change, and we will have to change with it. Good luck with your future adventures seeing you two back on TH-cam 2025 in this new year.
I'm a great believer in challenging yourself, and that making changes is a good way to do it. If your priorities don't change you're not growing. People and moments are what we cherish, aren't they? Thank you for your continued support. Liz 🙏
Canal boating! In the UK (and the continent) sounds like the ticket. Close to home, has the joy of exploring your homeland by boat. Not sailing but traveling with the freedom of your home coming with you. Sounds the ticket to me. Relaxing but checks many of your boxes.
You might perhaps draw some inspiration from Vanessa on Mindful Narrowboat who presents her experiences in a very unique and delightful way. Definitely in Britain there is a lifetime of adventure to be had.
I love Vanessa's channel and am continually struck by her knowledge of the British natural world. Her enthusiasm is infectious. (And, of course, I adore her cheeky dog, Zephyr.) 🐾 Liz
Best of times for the future to you both. My first guess was a narrow boat, but I hope you will be doing something similar to "keep turning left", hope I'm right. What ever it is, best of luck
Hello, my darlings! I quite agree with your move back to the UK! Having lived in Berlin for over 32 years, I saw, and experienced more of Britain when we (my 2 sons and I) used to visit my family, some of whom had moved to Wales, and also spending a few weeks holiday in gorgeous Cornwall, where I'd never been when I lived there yonks ago! Covid caused me utter heartbreak because I couldn't visit Mum in the last weeks of her life, and it's going to still take time before I maybe visit the UK again because all visits more or less centred around Mum😟 As a 'woman of a certain age' (68), I can also totally understand that the want to explore other countries deteriorates!🤭☺️ I'm quite happy in my apartment with my rescue terrier, Tommi, rescue cat Amber (who, by the way, have become the 'odd couple', and snuggle together 😊), and visits to see my sons and the grandchildren! (you can leave when things occasionally get a bit fraught amongst them 🤭☺️😂) All best to you for 2025 (doesn't seem possible 😂) Claire and co, Berlin 😘😘
Regarding the History of the UK, I recently stared watching a Vlog about Mudlarking in the Thames. The thought of finding relics that are hundreds of years old, just lying in the mud is incredible. I live in Florida (USA), and finding something from the 1950’s would be considered historical… looking forward to your new adventures.
As an inveterate beach-comber, mudlarking has masses of appeal. It's been going on in the Thames for hundreds of years, except that these days you're supposed to have a licence. One day I hope to have a go. 👍 Liz
There are many advantages of the in my case Dutch weather. You look forward to each season, and it ends always to soon. And as for meeting new people, living in one harbor for 7 years saw a lot of changes in the neighbors. As I can not sail the world, the world is sailing to me. I totally get your reasoning!
I sold my Chatham 33' back in 2012 after seven years cruising including a three year, 40,000 mile singlehanded high latitude circumnavigation because by that time I'd been there, done that and that and completed my bucket list check off. There was still a lot more traveling I wanted to do and at 64, I wasn't getting any younger. I have to admit though that I really missed the cruising lifestyle. With a capable sailboat, the world is your oyster.
No doubt there will be aspects we'll miss, Ron. We loved living and travelling on a sail boat, but we're now looking forward to a different lifestyle. It's all good!
Well done for your very brave decision and huge respect.. i just hope you don’t grow to regret it … I am a long term ex pat having lived outside of the UK for the last 40 years and currently living in SE Asia .. but unlike you, wild horses would not drag me back to the UK, cold, grey, pitifully woke with the frustration of being in a place in terminal decline would be a death sentence for me and completely in contrast to the dynamism, fun and ease of living in Asia
I'm guessing you're typing that from the comfort of a room with AC, Andy 😂 One thing we've learned from living in many different countries is that there is good and bad in every one, and what you read in the papers is very different to personal experience. Our time back in the UK so far has been great. If nothing else that narcissist Musk has united the British people!
Sailing Zingaro had redone his boat and looked really good. But it didn't sell it and still has it. You must have had some other advantages over others. Congratulations on selling your boat. New Year and new adventure.
My sister has a 74foot barge in Europe and they spend summer in Europe and summer home in Australia. They love it. I like lots of others, think a Narrow Boat is likely for you both.
We're with you with the heat, and not being able to enjoy being outdoors most of the day. We did enjoy SE Asia, seeing new countries, food and people, but the heat was very wearing. We had lived in Queensland our whole married life, and ended up heading south to Tasmania for our land adventures. People growing up in Victoria dream about living in Queensland and vice versa., without actually experiencing it for the whole year. Living at higher lattitudes, enables outdoor enjoyment and exercise all year, be it walking in the countryside or just gardening.
I'd love to visit Tasmania. The art scene, I understand, is healthy, and coupled with the wilderness I should think it's a fantastic place to live. Liz 🙏
Well, if it is not a narrowboat, then it must be a poleable raft with separate doghouse attached...only possibilities in my mind at least. Actually a log raft would have been so much easier for Millie than the hawser...obviously a stellar solution... All the best from a looong time watcher!
How great it is you can visit the parents. I'm sure they're happy too as most people don't have the time or make the time to visit. Listening now for the secret to how you sold so fast. My guess is you were realistic about selling. I'm sure we'll run into you two again somewheres East of Mandalay 😂. We are here in Kudat getting our five-year mani-pedi. Enjoy your time there PS: you said it well about how hard it is to leave behind some place you loved but how good it felt to be going! And, curious to find videos of your time in India but my thumbs can't scroll that far back. Maybe repost some of those vintage episodes?
Looking forward to the new adventures where ever that may be, we will be at Cafe Amigo on the last Sunday of the month between 10am till 12pm next one being 26th January should you wish to come and say Hi and a coffee.
Hey Brian, nice to hear from you. We've got family over that weekend but please let us know when you're next there. That's just down the road from my folks!
@@followtheboat That's fine, we're there for the last Sunday of the month for Series Sunday meet up with the Land Rover folks between 10am till 12pm for coffee and social chat and sometimes go off and do some Byways.
Wow startling perspective and you’ve done 20 years wow how cool Iv been following you at least 8 years probably more I’m almost 60 and dreaming of going off selling the house and sailing away but you have put a different spin on things I need to consider So everyone thinks it’s a canal boat you say it’s not what you think 🤔 a cool motor cruiser ??
Im sure you guys can get a boat in The UK, or in the med. I'd love to see you sail in the med on holidays or so. Also you two still have tons of information to continue making youtube videos. You also are leaving behind so much good information in your old videos.
Im looking forward to your new adventures. thanks for this video, some very sensible decission making and helping me to cement some of the pondering of my own situation One thing I would suggest you consider if you haven't all ready is lots of vitamin D. Whilst in the tropics you wouuld have made all the vitamin D you can use. Back in blighty youll hardly make any I personally take 3000ug to 4000ug daily during winter and half that in summer. Ive not had flu in years. Of course im not a doctor but its seen me well.
Greetings from KK best of luck with the new adventures i always have doggies on the boat they are great company my family does 6 months in the UK summer then 6 months in Asia winter good combination best of boat worlds all the best to you both
Hi Jamie and Liz, Long time no speak! I still follow and watch your vids. I'm guessing at a narrow boat for your next adventure??? A couple of questions for you (which you may have answered in other episodes) - what happened to your plan to head to Japan and across the top of the Pacific?, and secondly, after Millie's passing, did you consider heading down to Aus at all? Ps. A personal update - I'm now happily married and we leave beachside in Melbourne. Maia is a project yacht (again) after I started doing a refit and Covid/lockdowns in Melbourne prevented me from doing much on her for about a year. As Cheryl (my wife) grew up sailing dinghies, I've gotten back into beach dinghy sailing (Pacer and Laser) and enjoying the thrills of getting wet on a regular basis. I'm still dreaming of long distance sailing. Keep up the videos!
Hi Patrick, good to hear from you! Plans for Japan were hugely delayed with the death of my parents, then the pandemic came along. After that, the first place to sail to was Indo. So plans got delayed until we made this decision. There was never a plan to visit Aus, but now we're looking at holidays abroad once a year that could change... Liz x
Speaking as a Brit who lived in Australia for many years I don't miss hot heat at all. Mid 20's is as warm as I like. Similarly, I wouldn't want to live anywhere which was regularly below freezing.
Well, we're getting some great practice in with the cold right now, Neil! The frost this morning was quite magical but I couldn't feel my fingers after going for a quick early morning photo walk. The scenery was stunning though.
Every time I left the dock leaving a Country I would have had good old Rod Stewarts 'Sailing' song blaring lol. Canal boat maybe. Liz, as a male I both love and hate the tropics, love the Summer storms but the humidity can become a bit much and also, love it because I don't really get sunburnt (I'm a ranga), but down South in Australia, like Melbourne and Canberra, I'll burn on a clear night sky with a full moon.
Must admit I felt like I acclimatised to the tropics quite comfortably, but that heat can get to you sometimes. I completely underestimated what it was doing to Liz though. I thought she was just naturally sweaty but it turns out she's an English Rose 🌹
Personally I prefer cold temperatures. At least you can add layers of clothing and you can deal with it. Then all the stuff you must do to minimize moisture in the boat. I'm sailing in Denmark all year round. I guess you are going for a river boat, sailing the rivers in England 😊
Hey Mike. The good thing about the cold is being able to adjust your clothing to suit. There's only so many garments you can strip off in the heat! Condensation on those cold mornings will be our main battle, but I think easier to manage than tropical moisture.
Ps I' ve really come to appreciate living just on the outskirts of Berlin, taking more interest in the partly wooded surrounding, and observing, for example, the fox families, and even the occasional raccoon 😊 (much to Tommi the dog's annoyance 😂
Good choice. Proximity to family at any time, not least at this stage of your folks' lives Jamie - really sound decision... Lost my dad in October, just 79...
I'm so sorry to hear that, that's sad. My cousins lost theirs too recently, and I couldn't make the funeral. Another reason for getting back home pronto. I hope 2025 treats you well.
The temperature and humidity of SE Asia is not for everybody, age and gender is just a small part of it. I'm 70 and have lived in SE Asia for the past 25 yrs plus other parts of Asia before that. The heat and humidity, for me, is not an issue but I have even seen young folk that just couldn't handle it along with the differences in culture. Liz and Jamie you are real troopers and I look forward to your new adventures in the UK.
We've been in hot climates since buying SY Esper. In Turkey it regularly hit over 40C in the summer, and India is the hottest place I've ever been (three years on a boat there). So after 20 years I reckon I've given it my best shot! Am enjoying wearing wool jumpers and socks again. Haha! Liz 🙏
Won’t barge in my thoughts We are Must have the heating on high sitting about in T 👕 mmmmm HNY just in the throes of selling our boat Worrier 40 in trini so thanks for the info
(watching in two installments:-) Very wise broker! Do not fix things, just properly clean... The new owner has other skills and wishes. I look forward to work, especially brightwork. That is SO rewarding. A shame to take that "low hanging fruit of satisfaction" away from the future owner :-) Besides, paying for "almost broken" equipment is worse then "discount for broken stuff". Best advice I got from a broker is always make an appointment during the week, not the weekend. Let them take a day off work to show they are serious:-)
Oh yes - missed you guys - good to hear your both ok - Liz I so identify with your health - I live in a hot country and I understand the challenges you faced because I face them too . Keep safe .
Just for fun, my guess is a canal boat, so if it’s not what I think it is then I have to sing “My Old Man Said Follow The …” 🤫🤐 I think either would be perfect with a dog 🐾 or two 🐾🐾 I’m the good kind of enabler👍🏻 Dilly dally all you like, it’ll be worth the wait❤
Hmmmmm..... Sounds like you might want a more temperate climate, a locale better suited to make trips home easier/closer, a situation that would put you on a shoreside dock??? Seems very likely to be a canal boat, house boat or trawler, tho a swing keei sailboat is not out of the picture. Not knowing where in the UK is temperate?? you may end up somewhere on the W. Coastal Continent, suitably close to transport hubs. S. France, Portugal, and Spain come to mind. Hope this finds y'all fine in spirit and health, as well as on your way to finding that perfect boat and port.
It'd be really interesting to know how and where your income comes from. Flights , food , boats , fuel etc all cost many thousands so how did you ever afford to buy anything? I could afford a boat but until I'm 67 (13yrs time ) I don't have an income independant of work.
Boat living is a state of mind, we know nonagenarians on boats! Congratulations on making your dream a reality. Liz 🙏
@tomd.3082
Great to hear.
Yes, we needed to emphasise the point about family, it's really important to us. It's not going to stop us having new adventures though 😉
Welcome home guys. I have been watching your channel since ESPER went into refurbishment at Satun. I have loved watching your adventures over the years, thanks you so much for letting us into your lives. Good luck with your future plans.
Cheers, Mike. Boat maintenance is boat maintenance, no matter where it is! I hope we can continue to keep you entertained. Thanks for watching.
Looking forward to following along with your next chapter of your adventure. Enjoy your new normal. ❤
Thank you for coming along. Hopefully, we'll have some news soon... 🙏 Liz
Popped up on the stream on the one where you've started moving onto Happidaze? Can't wait to view the rest!
🙏 Liz
Thanks for everything!!
You are very welcome! 🙏👍 Liz
Good luck to you both, totally understand your reasons for selling and moving back to the UK,
Looking forward to your new adventures ❤
Thanks so much! So are we! 😊 Liz
Reducing the price for broken items rather than replacing them is the best advice for selling that people don't get - and also people wanting to list it far, far higher in price than it's worth.
If only they'd use their brains instead of their hearts. Find the right price and anything will sell. 👍 Liz
Good luck guys with whatever it is you’re planning. Looking forward to seeing what you’re up to. 👍
Wow, that's a long boat! Why did you stop? 🙏 Liz
wow..a new adventure for all of us 💕
Always great to have you by our side, Susan. Wishing you well and all the best for 2025.
Take care❤️
Brrrr 🥶 I've just discovered the Swedish clothing brand Härkila. Beautiful stuff.
I'm so excited for you both and can't wait to see what you're up to.
So are we! Can't wait to start filming and sharing the next adventure... Liz 🤞
Thankyou 👍 good luck with your new endeavours
Cheers, Andrew 👍👍
Can’t wait to see your new boat and pup! I hope it’s a narrowboat or camper. They both look like a wonderful and relaxing way to travel.
I vote for the Narrow Boat.
I reckon a narrowboat is more "watery" than a camper, although I do like the idea of a camper.
We love the call to prayer, it's been the soundtrack for most of our sailing years! The only time it's a problem is on land. 😄🙏 Liz
Taking care of parents is another adventure. Sacrificial, but rewarding in many ways. We all need to rearrange our priorities from time to time.
So true. Any kind of big change is good for the soul, it challenges and stretches you. 😊🙏 Liz
You guys continue to be a good example of good living. Looking forward to following your pivot!
Thanks so much, we're delighted you'll still be coming along for the ride. 🙏 Liz
Brexit 🤷
We can't wait to start having visitors aboard once more, especially family. We're very excited!
So happy you have family that you like being with. Not everyone does.
This is true. We have close friends who do not understand our drive to be closer to our family, they just don't get it. We know sailors who want to be as far away from their family too. Each to their own.
Hi guys, I think it’s important myself to be back home with your parents before anything happens to them I lost my father in 1988 and my mother in 2002 and still is painful to this day and I believe sometimes you need a change in the direction of your life sailing around sounds very good and easy but I know personally it’s not everyone’s got this dream that you just stick the sails up and the way you go
Well said, thank you 👍
Sounds like your making smart choices!! 👍
I think so too!
So pleased you are getting a rescue dog.
I live in HK and have always gone to the dog rescue centers.
We've been window-shopping online and we want them all!
So I know what you are talking about
It's not just me, then! Thank you. 🙏 Liz
Aaah, we're so pleased you gave it a go even if it didn't work out. Who knows, one day along a towpath somewhere? 😊 Liz
Living in the moment is so critical! You all are so inspiring! Good luck with plotting the next adventure!
A lot of the time we think we're living in the moment, but often we're only kidding ourselves. For me, I'll always strive to do just that, but often get carried away with living in the future; living in the past is not healthy. Cheers! 🙏
Well done and looking forward to the big revea.😀👍l
Me too! Can't wait to show you what's next. 😀 Liz
Thank goodness there is nothing wrong with the two of you I have been worried like most of us. I have speculated that one or both of you were ill but the truth is that you have finally caught up with me you are just getting old. So I'm glad to find out that you're okay. So go ahead and show us this new longboat you have bought.
We're all good, George, thank you. Getting old is unavoidable but we're doing our best to keep ourselves young 😃
Like everyone knows it's a longboat 😅🎉🎉 looking forward to some more new and great stories and photos
😂 A longboat is a long shot... Long boats were launched from ships to take crew ashore. So I can definitively say it's not one of those. 😁 Liz
Nearer and not difficult to come and go, BUT beware,,,,the marina prices have gone absolutely crazy €4,500 tp 13,800 in 7 years!!!)
Very best wishes David
Jeees, we knew prices had gone up but that's ridiculous, David 😮
A slower pace and a chance to smell the roses near home, too. Looking forward to it!
And roses are one of those smells we miss, Dave. My mum's hyacinths have just started to bloom and I haven't smelled those for over two decades!
Cheers.
Yes, it's what we did when we bought Esper and I think these guys know what's what. Thank you for sticking with us 😃👍
We totally get it…we are still having a dual lifestyle…..We have been been watching you two since day dot…..we are really looking forward to your next journey……really looking forward to it, coz we know how creative you both are….so chill guys….create! 👍🇳🇿🇳🇿
Thank you so much for this, it's encouraging to read. We're very excited!
Nice to hear from you. Thank you for this detailled update. Keep up the good work of showing us the world through your eyes.
Always a pleasure, Gerrie, and we hope to have lots more for 2025 👍
If you have your health you are never too old
I started sailing after I retired and just sail within my own limits . Spending overnights and weekends on the hook is great fun . It is not some far off place but it is still sailing
Sailing is a treat, wherever you are. Cheers! Liz 🙏
Thanks for your understanding, not to mention your support 🙏
I found this from a review and now i subbed
Whilst I'm looking forward to hearing all about your new home, I cannot wait for the introduction to your new ship's mate!!
Hey Nance, nice to hear from you! Yes, we're excited about our new companion too. Can't wait to give you an update. Hope you are keeping well.
@followtheboat, all well here, thanks! New adventures are sounding exciting. 😊
Stay in touch because we may be a bit closer to you in the near future 😉
@followtheboat, ooh, that's exciting! I sure will!
Wow startling perspective and you’ve done 20 years wow how cool Iv been following you at least 8 years probably more
I’m almost 60 and dreaming of going off selling the house and sailing away but you have put a different spin on things I need to consider
Definitely will be home for my parents 70th wedding anniversary in June❤
Exciting you will be getting a rescue dog. Our dog is the daughter of our 2 rescues
Circumstances change, and new plans come along. Personally, I love a change.
Yes, a dog. I'm so EXCITED! 🐾 Liz
Hehe, I like their thinking! Taking of rain and cloud, have you ever flown over Ireland? It's not called the Emerald Isle for nothing!
I love your life outlook and insights. Looking forward to your future videos.
Thanks, Chris. We're looking forward to it all too 😃
Like others here I was beginning to think one of you was ill or that your relationship had ended. So pleased and relived its not those reasons that you have moved. Looking forward to seeing what vessel you move into next and your next talk from the table of bollocks! 🎉
Not that, thank Gawd! We're raring to start the new adventure (together!) as soon as possible. Thanks for the kind words. 🙏💛 Liz
We will reveal all as soon as we possibly can. Cheers! Liz 🙏
We're going to be exploring new places (to us!) and hope you'll come along for the ride. 🙏 Liz
I love new adventures. Looking to forward to hearing about it!
So do we, Keith! I can't bear routine, it kills the spirit. Can't wait to bring you along on our new way of life. Cheers! Liz 🙏
Covid caused me utter heartbreak because I couldn't visit Mum in the last weeks of her life, and it's going to still take time before I maybe visit the UK again because all visits more or less centred around Mum😟
As a 'woman of a certain age' (68), I can also totally understand that the want to explore other countries deteriorates!🤭☺️
I'm quite happy in my apartment with my rescue terrier, Tommi, rescue cat Amber (who, by the way, have become the 'odd couple', and snuggle together 😊), and visits to see my sons and the grandchildren! (you can leave when things occasionally get a bit fraught amongst them 🤭☺️😂)
All best to you for 2025 (doesn't seem possible 😂)
Claire and co, Berlin 😘😘
Ah Claire, we are as one.
Our family will be a rescue dog, but the idea of a dog and cat snuggling together really appeals! Liz 🙏
👍 Liz
@@followtheboat I’ll be sure to watch those also.
There are many advantages of the in my case Dutch weather. You look forward to each season, and it ends always to soon. And as for meeting new people, living in one harbor for 7 years saw a lot of changes in the neighbors. As I can not sail the world, the world is sailing to me. I totally get your reasoning!
That changing company is something we cherished while sailing, and we hope it'll be similar for us in our new life here.
Thanks, Eric. I don't know what price they are selling for but that played a big part in our success. Also, it's an Oyster 😁
Zingaro's boat is also an oyster. Perhaps he did t price it for a fast sale? @@followtheboat
Wish you both Best Wishes for the next adventure, health and hapiness
Very kind, thank you.
All the best...be fun living in the UK after all the adventures you had in the sun.
I think family can live without you...
Family may be able to live without us, but can we live without family? Liz 🤔
Good luck in your future ❤
Thank you 😃👍
I'm predicting you're moving on to a Canal Boat. Sounds like fun!!!
You'll find out soon... Hopefully! Liz 🙏
My sister has a 74foot barge in Europe and they spend summer in Europe and summer home in Australia. They love it. I like lots of others, think a Narrow Boat is likely for you both.
She has it sorted! Sounds like a good life. 🙏 Liz
I PROMISE we'll reveal the plans soon! Thanks for sticking by us for so long. 🙏💛 Liz
Enjoy your time there
PS: you said it well about how hard it is to leave behind some place you loved but how good it felt to be going!
And, curious to find videos of your time in India but my thumbs can't scroll that far back. Maybe repost some of those vintage episodes?
We weren't making videos in India, just images and blog posts. What an incredible country! Liz 🙏
Wow startling perspective and you’ve done 20 years wow how cool Iv been following you at least 8 years probably more
I’m almost 60 and dreaming of going off selling the house and sailing away but you have put a different spin on things I need to consider
So everyone thinks it’s a canal boat you say it’s not what you think 🤔 a cool motor cruiser ??
Im sure you guys can get a boat in The UK, or in the med. I'd love to see you sail in the med on holidays or so. Also you two still have tons of information to continue making youtube videos. You also are leaving behind so much good information in your old videos.
We sailed the Med for three years before heading east, it was brilliant. Cheers! Liz
There's enough clues in that video that it's a canal boat life to come 😅 Did you sell Esper to the Sailing Brother's I wonder!??
No, they weren't brothers. If they were, one was quite effeminate 😂
Im looking forward to your new adventures.
thanks for this video, some very sensible decission making and helping me to cement some of the pondering of my own situation
One thing I would suggest you consider if you haven't all ready is lots of vitamin D. Whilst in the tropics you wouuld have made all the vitamin D you can use. Back in blighty youll hardly make any I personally take 3000ug to 4000ug daily during winter and half that in summer. Ive not had flu in years. Of course im not a doctor but its seen me well.
Very interesting, I will look into it and probably add Vit D to my daily routine. 🙏 Liz
Greetings from KK best of luck with the new adventures i always have doggies on the boat they are great company my family does 6 months in the UK summer then 6 months in Asia winter good combination best of boat worlds all the best to you both
Oooooh, lovely KK. Sabah is the place we would live if we had to choose, just love it there. Sounds like you have the perfect solution. Liz 🙏
Liz x
Sounds like a narrowboat to me. If so I will enjoy watching you do that.
Thank you. Let's see what transpires 😉
Oh NO - you are buying a Narrow Boat 😝😝😝 and I am Subscribed
Who said anything about a narrowboat?! 😉
You might
Enjoy NZ
@@followtheboat An English Rose, like a candle in the wind aye?
She can be windy, that's for sure 😁
I know what you are getting to replace Esper. It was staring me in the face in the lower right hand corner of the video. It is a Sub 😉😉😂😂
Hehe, very good! Always fancied a ride in a sub...
Are the new owners going to use the boat similar to the way you did or will it be more of a local boat used for recreational purposes?
We understand they have big plans, George. They understand Esper needs to spread her wings!
Ps
I' ve really come to appreciate living just on the outskirts of Berlin, taking more interest in the partly wooded surrounding, and observing, for example, the fox families, and even the occasional raccoon 😊 (much to Tommi the dog's annoyance 😂
Wild Guess. River Motor Yacht.
Hmmm. When you say "yacht", do you mean with sails? Different interpretation of the word yacht depending on where you come from.
Haha! Liz 🙏
@@followtheboat That you have! I'm looking forward to your adventures in the UK.
Won’t barge in my thoughts We are Must have the heating on high sitting about in T 👕 mmmmm HNY just in the throes of selling our boat Worrier 40 in trini so thanks for the info
Good luck with the sale! I'm enjoying sitting round the fire in jumpers and socks. 😄 Liz
That's a great piece of advice that last one. Tyre kickers can be a massive waste of time.
Sounds like a long boat in the UK?
Keep watching, we'll reveal all as soon as we can. 🙏 Liz
Canal boat?
You'll know soon enough... 😀 Liz
Ahh you are getting one of those fancy foiling sailing yachts, so you can be anywhere in the UK within hours.
😁😄😂 Wouldn't that be something? Liz
Oh yes - missed you guys - good to hear your both ok - Liz I so identify with your health - I live in a hot country and I understand the challenges you faced because I face them too .
Keep safe .
Sorry to hear you're suffering too. It can be quite debilitating. Here's hoping our new environment makes things a little more comfortable 😃
I reckon a canal boat?
Keep watching... 😄 Liz
Haha! I like your style. Too much dilly-dallying now we're back in the UK, but hopefully it will all be sorted this week... Liz 🙏
Thank you, Paul. Sadly, thanks to Brexit, anywhere in Europe is out of the question 😡
It'd be really interesting to know how and where your income comes from. Flights , food , boats , fuel etc all cost many thousands so how did you ever afford to buy anything? I could afford a boat but until I'm 67 (13yrs time ) I don't have an income independant of work.
We sold everything we owned back in 2003, then bought a boat and a flat. The flat provides our income. But boats really are a bottomless pit. 😬 Liz
What a lovely video. I’m betting you are getting a narrow boat.
Thank you! We'll reveal all as soon as we can! Liz 🙏
You little teasers you 😁
