I have a very similar gear and workflow to what you use. And find it pretty easy to manage. I'm sure this will help many people manage their data better. Great video Shawn, and thanks for sharing.
I built my own SSD's using a external enclosure's from BestBuy, the Insignia brand one and have been really happy with the performance. Plus they are real easy to do and you can use your old ones from a PC or use them in a future PC build or upgrade. I also use it with my Windows PC and my iPad Pro
I love the speed of my san disk extreme pros! Wow my 4K Mavic 3 and mini 3 pro drone footages as well as my Final Cut Pro creations take tons of space so it’s amazing that in seconds and minutes it quickly transfers many gigs! I keep my screen recordings but try to minimize my 4ks to 30 seconds to one minute takes when I fly my fantastic drones!
This was very helpful. Thanks-I remember watching it a few months ago-then when I had to actually get one of these ssd drives I just had to call up this video. Thanks. Happy New Year from Boston.
Yeah I work with the same SanDisk SSD's, the are realy fast and excellent both are the v2 2Tb, have 2 aswell, the 2nd is the copy of the first and I use a Samsung 256 usb-c Drive for data transport other sources. You can rename the Sandisk into Extreme Head and Extreme Copy. What I did and recommended for multi connect I use the Baseus Metal Gleam 8in1, it has a fast strong short cabel connection with usb-c with 3x usb-a 3.0 to use fast usb-c adapters, have SD & TF seperated, mini HDMI, usb-c PD and LAN for fast internet connecton, it's my File management, I love it
Hi, Would it be possible to leave the hyperdrive connected to the ipad to save wearing out the ipads usb C port and also could you edit directly off the ssd while it is connected through the hyperdrive or would that effect the speed? Thanks
Thank you very much for the video tutorial. I really thought you did a great job. As you know when you’re editing from an SSD, you may be on LumaFusion for several hours during yet. I was wondering how you would provide power to the iPad during this time. Thank you Pat Hogarty from El Dorado Hills California.
Great video as always! I would like to ask you for advice. I have two hard drives (formatted in exFat) that I normally use on a PC. I tried to connect them via Hub to the iPad (Air m1) but they turn on without the iPad recognizing them. How could I solve it? I also changed the adapter but nothing. Let me start by saying that until some time ago they were read without the slightest problem.
Thank you very much for your videos. Can you use the same setup with the iPad Mini 6 editing straight from the external SSD without moving the files to the iPad mini? Or it's only suitable with the iPad Pro?
I have 256gb iPad Pro, I edit in LumaFusion and it’s enough storage for me. Current I have 145gb free space, with 93,000 and over 4,000 videos on iPad. Of course I edit off external SSDs.
Well, in my opinion, if you are going to be a Dedicated iPad, only video editor. I would invest the little extra to get at least one terabyte of storage. It can make things simpler for working projects. But indeed, there is absolutely no need with support of SSD drives. So I guess it all depends on your needs and how much editing you’re going to be doing. If you’re just a casual editor, it’s probably not necessary, but for someone like myself, I film and edit a lot It is worthwhile.
Hi, Excelleant , Please advise is it better to store all photos folder - albums in FILES or in Photos- As albums - Does it loos photo quality if stored in FILES folder -Pl advise
I use the SanDisk SSD with my iPad mini 6, which is also my monitor for my Air2 s. It works great, but it does pull the battery down more quickly than normal. FWIW, I found your audio to be very low, as well. With everything all the way up, road noise was drowning it out while watching in my vehicle.
I can't have a look on my Sony raw files. I only see them when importing them into Lightroom. any idea how I could view them without importing them ? any managing app or iPad setting ?
I’m going to start getting into editing on an IPad, if I’m using the external drives for storage how much storage in my iPad do I actually NEED? I like I’ve said I am just getting started but need to keep the cost down as much as possible. Can I get by with 128GB or will I need more?
I have noticed your voice-over audio from several of your videos is consistently lower than other YT videos that I view on a regular basis. You should level it up.
I have a question, what android tablet would be good to use for the dji virtual flight app? I have apple products. I contacted dji and was told that with android on virtual flight I would have several choices. I could run the app with either just the remote controller 2 and no goggles or the remote controller 2 with the goggles 2 or the motion controller 2 with goggles 2. If I use an apple product I can only use the remote controller 2 with the old goggles v2. So I am thinking of purchasing an android tablet because of having more options with the virtual flight. So do you or anyone have any recommendations on an android tablet?
I was getting all excited when I saw the GoPro sitting there … But you didn’t plug that into the hub and I guess that’s because it doesn’t work … right !? You need to remove the mem card and use an adaptor to copy to an SSD drive. Also… talking of GoPro footage … have you tried using that copied to an ssd in Quik ? Again … doesn’t work … bahhhh 😢😢😢
Yeah, I’m not sure what happened there. Thanks for pointing that out. I’m gonna try and figure out what the problem is. And you’re right it volume is fine if I played on my phone or iPad but when I watch it on the laptop it’s very low.
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for as I get started on video editing on my iPad. Thank you so much!!!
I have a very similar gear and workflow to what you use. And find it pretty easy to manage. I'm sure this will help many people manage their data better. Great video Shawn, and thanks for sharing.
I don’t do any of this kind of thing at this time but found this very useful. I find all of you videos useful.

Yes i have 4 of these amazing san disk extreme pros since I do lots of media, music and drone 4ks!
I love the speed of my san disk extreme pros! Thanks for this Shawn - most useful. Could you do the same thing with your iPhone rather than the iPad?
This was very helpful. Thanks-I remember watching it a few months ago-then when I had to actually get one of these ssd drives I just had to call up this video. Thanks. Happy New Year from Boston.
Glad it helped!
Will you be making the leap to Final cut pro on ipad? I'm kind of excited!
I enjoy your videos, usually find the information I need for drones, editing etc . Thanks 🙏
Glad you like them!
I was getting a bit frustrated getting footage off the GoPro and onto an iPad 4 (without having to go through a laptop), so good tips!
Great video, thanks for posting Shawn. How's the lumberjack beard going?? 😄
Thanks for the information and recommendations, Shawn.
Learned a bunch from this video! I have been avoiding using the iPad to edit because of connections - or lack there of - now I can fix it. Thanks!
Video looks great and I think the information is on point but audio should definitely be your next section to tackle.
Thanks for the video! I like my Anker 551 USB-C Hub (8-in-1). It folds flat and is easy to carry.
This video is awesome! Answered several questions I had! Thank You!
Thanks I really needed this
Shawn, great explanation of your workflow with the ipad. I do a very similar process with my Ipad and Sandisk.

Thank you! Really good video
Thanks. Interesting and informative
Sounds fine on my iPhone.
Will all of this work on iPad 9 with lightning?
Hi, Would it be possible to leave the hyperdrive connected to the ipad to save wearing out the ipads usb C port and also could you edit directly off the ssd while it is connected through the hyperdrive or would that effect the speed?

Apple just announced that Final Cut Pro is coming to the iPad. Hopefully we will be able to use external SSD's the same way as Luma Fusion.
Really I didn’t hear the news. When is Final Cut Pro coming to the iPad?
It will release on 5/23/23

What is the mic that you are using to record voice?
That’s how I edit my Avata and Mavic 2 Pro footage too 😁
thanks for sharing Shaun👍👍
Hello Shaun can’t see your reply not sure why !
Brilliant again thank you.
my approach is the same. very nicely explained 👌🏻
Thank you very much for your videos. Can you use the same setup with the iPad Mini 6 editing straight from the external SSD without moving the files to the iPad mini? Or it's only suitable with the iPad Pro?
As long as you have a fast SSD, it should not be an issue
@@AirPhotography thank you very much! I have the same Sandisk Extreme SSD, just have to upgrade my iPad 👍
Which iPad are you using? I’m ready to buy just not sure if a iPad Pro is worth the extra $$$. Thanks
So if you were going to buy a brand new iPad Pro, you’d buy the lowest internal storage since you have the external SSD?
I have 256gb iPad Pro, I edit in LumaFusion and it’s enough storage for me. Current I have 145gb free space, with 93,000 and over 4,000 videos on iPad. Of course I edit off external SSDs.

This is so cool
iPads are definitely better than computers
Hi, Excelleant , Please advise is it better to store all photos folder - albums in FILES or in Photos- As albums - Does it loos photo quality if stored in FILES folder -Pl advise
I prefer to use files. Easier to organize and you will not loose any quality
This might be more handy once we start doing high-level editing on iPad on Final Cut Pro.
Does the storage system work for Samsung tablets also
Great video, thanks! Does it work the same for iPhone instead of iPad?
iPhone 15 should be good to go !
Loved it Shawn.. Left you a thumb... Lol
MIKEY
Thanks, Mikey

can the iphone 15 pro series do the same?

Does iPad Pro support usb 3.2 gen 2x2?
Nice video! I myself use a 512 GB iPad Pro and a 512 GB USB-C drive (which can also plug into the iPad), so I have a total combined storage of 1 TB
I’m going to start getting into editing on an IPad, if I’m using the external drives for storage how much storage in my iPad do I actually NEED? I like I’ve said I am just getting started but need to keep the cost down as much as possible. Can I get by with 128GB or will I need more?
Hi, are we able to use SD card footage in Lumafusion without copying into iPad or external ssd?thank you
I’ve never tried it directly from a memory card. If it’s a fast card and a fast reader, it may work.
Well this is disappointing, it looks like I need to get a new iPad!
Great content as always, thank you
Audio is to low can barely hear you and I have everything turned all the way up
The same problem here 🤷🏻♂️
I have noticed your voice-over audio from several of your videos is consistently lower than other YT videos that I view on a regular basis. You should level it up.
Audio is perfect on my iPhone! 😊
I’m not having any problems either.
No problem for me …. iPhone

Enjoy your videos but always find it hard to hear you, my volume is fine on other videos so not sure why I cant increase the volume at my end.

But unfortunately if you use Final Cut Pro there is no external memory available
Yes, that is limitation. But Luma fusion used to be like that so hopefully with an update they will change that.
@@AirPhotography 🤞
Volume is crazy low if not on iOS device
Yeah, I’m not sure what happened there. Thanks for pointing that out. I’m gonna try and figure out what the problem is. And you’re right it volume is fine if I played on my phone or iPad but when I watch it on the laptop it’s very low.
Why is your volume so low?
I had to turn my audio all the way up to watch this video.
y❤❤ /❤
Sound is too low on this video
This is great information.. thank you
