Hey Tim, they changed the proxy fuses, SAM missiles and Vikhrs do not proxy on each other anymore. I tried it as well, neither my Vikhr nor the VT-1 exploded while flying directly towards eachother.
Not sure when that change went through. As recently as Sunday, my Vikhrs were getting shot down - there is a clip of this happening in the footage. If it wasn't proximity fuses, then it was just incredible odds happening over and over.... **shrugs**
@@TimsVariety I believe how it works is if you lock someone with radar and then shoot a SAM, the SAM won’t have proxy until a bit before it hits the target. But shooting a SAM without radar lock it has proxy all the way.
@@TimsVariety It only has the proximity fuse disabled if the ADATS is locking on to you. With recent changes, ADATS tracking system is now IRST as opposed to contrast-based optical tracking system. This means, a single flare can throw the lock off. I personally have stopped using the locking system in most cases because of this. It's possible that the ADATS you fought in the clip was not locking on to you for the aforementioned reason, and you were flying straight on to him anyway. In this case, the proximity fuse remains armed at all times.
Took a look at the IRCM feature of it with a 9L and 9P without firing: just seeing what the seeker head would do. 9L was pretty good at staying generally on target doing what you see with the R60M here and pretty much wobbling all over it. 9P's seeker head would float off in some random direction after wobbling around a bit.
I was planning to pre-order this for the experimental grey camo. But, I am sort of glad that I missed the pre-order window since I was planning to use it for air grind with it. I flew the Su-25K a lot but the 39 being more slow and vulnerable in its air BR was the hesitating factor for me to purchase. Your review covered the iffy areas that I felt. Thank you Tim :D
The ground BR is fine but the Air BR is bad. Its not that hard to get around though. Play Air PvE or use it in ground as CAS (or anti-CAS) with the gun and AAMs.
As it is right now the Mercury pod doesn't give you better viewing angles, so there is no reason to use it over the radar pod. The radar pod is best used in TWS GTM mode with a square radar as it is less cluttered and "Targets cyclic switching of air radar" turned off in options -> air battle settings.
To anyone who is seeing this now Equip the su 39’s radar pot when using laser It has a radar mode called “TWS GMTI” which is basically a ‘ground motion sensor’ radar or something like that When locking a target your laser will immediately toggle on the target as well Be warned. It tracks allies too
How is it for sim? Seems like a decent convoy hunter and base bomber, and should in the future get better AA missiles for self defense. The recent changes to air RB really put me off the mode (maps are finally big, but they still focus everyone into a tiny square in the middle with a now absurdly high player count) so I'm playing more and more sim. The targeting camera and radar should be very nice for spotting bases, AI, and most importantly, for IFF. The high AGM quantity would be great for the "frontline" areas and convoys, and with everyone forced into 1st person, I can see Vikhr AA kills being common
I have it and flew it in sim for a few matches, you get absolutely destroyed by F16s with AIM9Ls most of the time, if you manage to survive, you will get sniped by the base AA because this thing is slow.
Having played the Su25T in sim its honestly just easy prey for fighters, the rearward visibility is nonexistent and it has a tendency to roll in a turn and fall out of the sky. As a ground attacker it has very good missiles and I've had the most amount of fun just hitting ships with it, since a single KH25ML to the bow will sink a destroyer. The targeting pod does not have thermals and has a very narrow field of view even at its lowest magnification making target acquisition difficult. Its supposed to have a memory function when locking a target, letting the camera refocus in on that point after leaving the gimbal limit and returning to face the target, but I've been having issues with it not working and throwing my camera around even when I manually relock the target.

Been watching back your videos and as you said, this vehicle really suffers because it's really not fit for air battles. Luckily, now Air RB and Ground RB have different battle ratings! Now the SU39 is at 11.3 in GRB and 11.7 in ARB! Wait a minute...
A bit late to the party cause I bought this beauty on this summer sale, and yes in Air RB it can be painful. But if you can avoid enemy contact until you reach your targets (I bomb bases and doing some ground units with the unguided rockets) you have 2 outcomes: a) Only a few enemies are left or b) you are alone against the rest. While version b let you left in tears, version a can be really funny than you can snack a Tornado or Mirage from behind :p
IRL the SU-39 can carry R-27s and R-77s with the Radar pod. So if Gaijin really wants to do the SU-39 a solid they can implement those. But that will be hilarious.

did you know that you can actually laser guide the KH29T if you activate the laser designator at least you can in the test drive so the kh29l is not really useful
Tbh its very lethal in ground RB, you just have to target SPAA first. Considering the KH-29Ls range, you can oneshot any SPAA from 5km+ away and not risk getting shot down. And almost always the SPAA wont spend a rockets trying to shoot down yours, because they dont even know its coming for them. This tactic is also perfect for Ground SM.
SU39 is a bit P2W since its pretty much a SU25T but you have the ability to also take a radar with you. The radar is what really makes this plane great with the ability to track moving targets on the ground. The radar also is great in sim where i usually have it off to not ping enemy planes but turn it on when im not sure if the plane infront of me is friendly or not meaning i can get a nice stealth kill if the enemy doesnt expect it. Its kinda sad that the devs decided to go P2W for this plane and didnt add the radar option for the regular tech tree version.

I'm not sure. In nowadays we can see that survivability of real su25 is much less than russians described. Also in the game it's very hard to shot down su25 due it's absolutely biased survivability. It can catch 5 stingers, turn, destroy you with half of your team and return to airfield
Not for me, I get r*pd by one or two, usually the first missile disables me and then i get hit by missile spam from 5 or 6 other sams within seconds but I'm already going down
I bought it for Sim, because I love playing sim in Warthunder. But this thing isnt even good enough for sim. You start flying off the af and get shot down because you compete with the top top tier planes that has over 100km radarlock for rockets. Then it cannot fly fast, or else you rip your wing. 50% throttle is enough. Then you cannot turn, therefore no dogfight. You cannot fly with lower 500kmh, or else you flatspin or just loose controll. Soo, if someone sits behind you, just J out. You die anyway so make it fast. The only good thing is, it has very good weapons for groundtargets. But you cannot use them in Sim, you die first sadly
Take kh-25ml rockets at air rb and test it out shooting 3km into the target if its coming to you shoot at 8km believe me those rockets will torn the plane like crazy you can even now go to test flight and try to shoot those planes with tracking pod
I've gotten more KH25ML kills than R60 kills or Vihkr kills. If you see a slow plane like an a10 or just somebody going slow in a dogfight you can easily kill them with the KH25MLs. I have a few air rb matches with the Su25T and managed to get 2 kills in a row with the KH25MLs in one match.
Well i dont really agree with u, i have flown it myself. U can use the kh29t to kill off any spaa thats up since it outranges them and then u go in. Ofc somebody can spawn in as spaa but i found that in 'normal' rounds in this i get 4 or 5 kills. Just my opinion but i think its still a great Video, Keep up that good work m8
Even though the Mercury pod is pretty much useless (no need for night vision right now + it does not give better zoom or FOV that the aircraft's own camera) I think that using the radar for CAS is also pretty pointless. I mean, sure you can spot another jet, but so what, your R-60Ms don't need radar and 9/10 times he is going to kill you if your team AA doesn't shoot him down. The ground target mode for the radar might help locating targets but you still need to look at them from a very long distance to actually hit them with the missiles or whatever. Also the radar targeting square kind of gets in the way when you lock a tank (which you don't even need to lock on them because you can already do that with the inbuilt camera system). TL;DR don't use neither the radar nor the mercury pod for CAS
Despite it being a literal tank in the air, it still can survive 3 missile on its ass and wit some luck you will be able to punish wit missiles the mig29 if it fly over you . Plus after it got R 73's its quite a good aircraft tbh. Only wish it recieved a holder for the R60KM that can hold 2 missiles at once.
Su39 /25T in its current br both ground and air is not ideal. Air RB, you will BVR'd. If its down tiered like Su25K then it would be ok for both ground and air.
This is the premiun version is full but now Su25T is imposible to upgrade in realistic battle the only way to grind him is in sim battles : / is still crap but at least you can get one upgrade per battle
@TimsVariety Hows is that Rear countermeasure(IRCM) or (ECM)SPO-15 Sirena-3 radar warning receiver and a Gardeniya radar jammer? That deploys chaff and flares for protection against radar and infrared-guided missiles. You know for protection from Ground to air missiles(SAM) and vice-versa? Sorry I mean how is it in GroundRB for missiles shot from the ground at you? I see you messing around with another player to show it against planes but wonder about SAMs. I know in AirRB it was EZ PZ to kill the thing diving down and gunning them out of the sky. Kind of a free frag almost.
Most of the time you'll be able to spawn in the SU-39 well before any potent SAM system is up on the other team, enabling you to climb easily. Russian teams are still dominating most of the time, so that gives this plane a massive advantage. That's how most of my games have been. An absolute beast in Ground RB.

I would offer you to buy Su-7 BMK. Its good to grind bases, ground units and sometimes u can dogfight someone. Its br is 9.3 so its low enough to not struggle against 12.0 monsters. You have speed, bombs and good guns. I would offer you to check this variant.
its sad how bad and weak the A-10 is compared to the SU-25 variants, even after the supposed "buff" it needs more improvements. The A-10 acts like its made of paper.

Yep, some of them are spoofed BADLY by the IRCM, some are better at dealing with it.

The KH-29L can beused as an air 2 air aswell. It genuinely leads targets well.
Try the KH-25ML it works better than the KH-29L as air to air missile, the KH-25ML pulls more and is faster.
@TimsVariety , Wing rip speeds are largely due to flutter (kinda like resonating waves) and have little to do with actual structural strength.

A Stormer would know! Their missile doesn't have a proxy fuse so they wouldn't be able to shoot it down, but they would know!

Conclusion: The 10.0 SU-25s are better for their BR, don't bother.
This plane feels so overtiered. It feels like it was designed before the missiles nerf and this thing relied on them to perform on air battles.
This is the premiun version is full but now Su25T is imposible to upgrade in realistic battle the only way to grind him is in sim battles : / is still crap but at least you can get one upgrade per battle

@TimsVariety Hows is that Rear countermeasure(IRCM) or (ECM)SPO-15 Sirena-3 radar warning receiver and a Gardeniya radar jammer? That deploys chaff and flares for protection against radar and infrared-guided missiles. You know for protection from Ground to air missiles(SAM) and vice-versa? Sorry I mean how is it in GroundRB for missiles shot from the ground at you? I see you messing around with another player to show it against planes but wonder about SAMs.
I know in AirRB it was EZ PZ to kill the thing diving down and gunning them out of the sky. Kind of a free frag almost.
We messed around a little bit firing SAMs at it, similar results - it spoofed a couple of the basic IR missiles but still got hit a few times too.

Most of the time you'll be able to spawn in the SU-39 well before any potent SAM system is up on the other team, enabling you to climb easily. Russian teams are still dominating most of the time, so that gives this plane a massive advantage. That's how most of my games have been. An absolute beast in Ground RB.

Both are good in different ways. For my 5cents, neither is "better" in a black-and-white sense.
If ground, USSR. They’ve got the best CAS and SPAA plus their tanks like to not spall

Can someone explain the difference between the normal ground targeting pot and the radar one? Other than the radar? Is one of them better overall?
They're entirely different.
One has a radar (only) , the other has night vision and an auto-tracking targeter.

@TimsVariety ok so either I do something wrong or the targeting pot has very limited room because I can barely change direction after firing or I will lose the target because the pot can't reach that far

I would offer you to buy Su-7 BMK. Its good to grind bases, ground units and sometimes u can dogfight someone. Its br is 9.3 so its low enough to not struggle against 12.0 monsters. You have speed, bombs and good guns. I would offer you to check this variant.
How do i lock the Vikhr missiles? Whats the control key bind for it? Lock via radar then fire?

its sad how bad and weak the A-10 is compared to the SU-25 variants, even after the supposed "buff" it needs more improvements. The A-10 acts like its made of paper.
