    I wish they had shown us the Cylon side of this battle, Imagine:
    1, "Should be an easy fight, only civilians"
    5, "Whats that coming up?"
    6, "Its a Battlestar!"
    1, "What we killed all them"
    5, "Well, looks like we missed one"
    1, "Frakk."

    This was one of my favorite space battle scenes...I absolutely love the designs of those Viper IIs. Battlestars seems to be built to take hits like nothing else though, I'm sure Galactica could have taken those 2 Basestars if she was at her prime with a battle hardened crew, fully ladened, with a full fighter compliment.

    • @LoreReloaded
      @LoreReloaded  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I liked how they intermixed them through out the show. I thought it was cool how you just had them in different numbers each episode with out being mentioned.

    • @HeadlessChickenTO
      @HeadlessChickenTO 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lore Reloaded
      Here it seems like they have about a hundred fighters or so. That number quickly dwindled as either pilots were down or fighters. At one point, it almost seemed like they only had 3 dozen but Pegasus of course changed that. We saw quite a few fighter deployed at the Colony battle.

    • @k1productions87
      @k1productions87 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      A battlestar is like a big heavy battlewagon, built to take hits and survive while dueling out punishment, in a hope of taking out its opponent before the damage becomes to severe.
      We see Galactica directly engage two basestars later on, but the assumption was that they were without fighter cover, and therefore the Galactica could stand the punishment until the more poorly armored Cylon ships were destroyed and the colonists escaped New Caprica.
      But here at Ragnar, the principal problem is not only the two basestars, but their overwhelming advantage in fighters, which can not only eventually wipe out Galactica's compliment, but chip away at its defenses until it is left without any counter to the incoming missile barrages. This is why, in the Galactica universe, fighter cover is so important.

    • @BNRmatt
      @BNRmatt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you play Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock, you'll see a full strength battlestar absolutley can mop the floor with two Basestars. Spacedock did a great video about why basestars really had no place in a stand up fight.

  • @kpucko185
    @kpucko185 6 ปีที่แล้ว +56

    Jupiter class ships are a tough nut to crack. I think Galactica should be able to hold against two Basestars if the battlestar is fully armed and with complete Viper compliment. Still one of the coolest ships in any series or movies.

      Kristian Aleksandrov also remember that the Galastica had its armour stripped down when it regulated to civil duties.

    • @UncleMikeDrop
      @UncleMikeDrop 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kristian Aleksandrov it been a few decades since the cylons achieved the point of singularity. In that time the cylons should have technology that would be relative centuries beyond that of the human colonies as there capabilities would improve exponentially with each generation. Essentially the only reason that didn't happen in Battlestar Galactica was for the purpose of plot. Nobody likes a show where the bad guys win in 5 minutes and that's over. That is what really happened if Humanity final race of living machines.

    • @DrewLSsix
      @DrewLSsix 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike Vasquez. Thats assuming theres still leaps and bounds of advancement possible. It may just not be possible for ships to be faster or stronger or longer ranged beyond some slight improvements.
      What I would have expected though from a "people" capable of everything from simple machines to human and arguably superhuman machines and everything in between they would have a significant edge just through hyper specialized AIs and machine bodies. Rather than basically 3 or 4 variants running the show.

    • @UncleMikeDrop
      @UncleMikeDrop 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DrewLSsix not really. Especially when it comes to weapons range there should be virtually no limit in space. Then again and accurate depiction of space combat would actually be a lot more like submarine combat in an ocean of infinite volume. If anything the cylons should have been able to wipe out everybody before they even saw them coming. There really is virtually no limit to technological advancement once machines become capable of making better versions of themselves. The final nail in the coffin for Humanity is that the silenced have virtually infinite resources.

    • @dantruong2582
      @dantruong2582 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mike Vasquez My problem with the machine apocalypse is the why. Why do they have to spend resources and effort to kill us. If they advance so far. Why waste the energy to wipe out a race? They demonstrated that they can leave anytime. They can contain humanity indefinitely. Plus they cannot truly die in range of some kind of backup, this case the resurrection ship.

    The "Red Line" was a distance from the current position of the jumping vessel where it could not predict with any level of certainty that the area beyond it was a safe place to jump. It wouldn't be a jump location they hadn't been too before. (though they might well have had a "red line" that included the space they had never been too before...).
    The reason Adama was on the Galactica was because of an earlier attempt to jump next to Cylon space and then send a Viper over that red Line into their space and scout them out, WAY before the war and likely why the Cylons decided to pick the time they did to invade the Colonies. That mission was considered a "failure" and got Adama demoted, sort of, from an active and front line Battlestar, to an older ship like the Galactica.

  • @bdetert82

    The tech on the show is spot on about how vulnerable our tech would be against a AI. We just wouldn't be able to keep up. The Luddite in me enjoys the massive low tech over gunned and armored Galatica. Just a great show to watch with interesting characters.

      The advantage in the first war for the humans was a massive industrial advantage. Which always seemed odd to me you would thing a Cyclon robotic army would outpace organic workers. I wonder was it ever mentioned if production was mostly robotic for humans in the first war?

  • @samyoung5033
    @samyoung5033 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The Galactica didn't jump to Ragnar Anchorage because of the harmful properties of the gas giant had on the Cylon's as it was not known at the time the Cylon's had Humanoid models. The Galactica went to Ragnar Anchorage to rearm the Galactica and get back into the fight quickly as possible.

    My main issue with the so-called government of the Galactica Fleet was that they were constantly acting across purposes. People seem to forget even when writing science fiction that democracy is a luxury. You have to first establish a nation before you can start governing it by the wheel of that nation's people. In the story of Battlestar Galactica Humanity at all but been wiped out and they were struggling just to prevent their Extinction if anything martial law would have been the only way to keep everything together in the situation.

    I think the Cylons found out where Galactica was when Leoben was downloaded, after COMMANDER Adama killed hum, and told the others that there was a battlestar at Ragnar. I doubt the Cylons even knew there was a Civilian fleet until the Battle. It was only later did the Cylons find the Fleet due to a tracking device on one of the ships (Olympic Carrier) after the escape.

      I bet the Cylons would have loved for the colonials to have a few poorly secured heavily computerized super-technological advanced warships, yes. They'd have had loads of fun reverse-engineering the warp drive, antimatter based energy generation, deflector screens, and transporters after their cyber-warfare disabled the ships and their literal murder-machine boarding parties wiped out the crews.
      The Jedi Knights and Clone Troopers would have been cool, though. Mostly the Jedi Knights, force sensitive Viper pilots would have been a godsend for the minimally-computerized colonials, and the clone troopers were at least battle hardened.

      You pretty much need a ship the scale of Galactica. As some NASA researchers found out lately, space background radiation is 'Stronger than expected'
      If you dont have several meters of hull you will likely die of radiation posioning, that trew quite a twist into Elon Musks idea to colonize Mars, try to read that up.

    • @BirdOPrey5

      I think The Expanse has the best space battles. There's no artificial gravity or any tech that breaks the laws of physics or seems unachievable in a few centuries. It's gorgeous to watch the sort of acrobatic maneuvering the ships use to pivot and turn, which I've never seen before in tv or film. The Rocinante actually has to return to a shipyard because some rail gun rounds perforated the hull, making white hot entry marks in everything it passed through. Including the engineer's display, which could easily have sliced through her given a slightly different angle. The story is rich and well developed, and it seems pretty plausible to imagine the sort of cultures that would develop out of Martian settlers, asteroid dwellers (Belters), and people on Earth.
      Don't get me wrong, I love BSG! But the Expanse has the hottest space battles. BSG has Adama (and Tory), so it'll always be a favorite!

    I thought it would be so cool if like 7 Battlestars survived with some support ships and Marines and they purged the CNP program so they couldn’t be hacked by the Cylons. They could have launched a counterattack.

    • @Lightsoul1987
      @Lightsoul1987 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      7 Battlestars are no match in a face to face match with the cylons. 20-30 with a base, Shipyards and supply maybe. Rember the Colonal fleet has 120 Battlestars + a lot of smaller Warships in service bevor the attack begann and 118 get destroyed in only a few ours. The colonial defense was completely overrun by the Cylons.

    • @MegaLeafgreen
      @MegaLeafgreen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And here you have a series plot. If they could somehow not be affected by the cylon virus... the basestars were glass cannons, not designed for serious confrontation. As long as the battlestars could re-arm somewhere they could just keep hitting in guerrilla warfare, although the colonies would still be wiped out by nukes.

    Yep the ending of the series was REALLY STUPID AN MADE NO SENSE! Did you notice the same type of idiocy comparing of the original series [Sage of a Star World aka Battlestar Galactica 1978]? Humans pause to celebrate their escape and dismantle their military and weapons to prove to the Cylons that humans are no longer a threat to them an almost get exterminated in the process of that way of thinking in the newer version [Battlestar Galactica (2004 TV series)] they go ape an destroy their tech so they can die of disease an every other hardship. I know the producers of the reboot were trying for something different but it just was lazy writing to end the series. In reality no one would be that stupid for a feel good moment that would end in their death ignoring the risk of their circumstances. I like the newer series but it just lost its way full of plot holes and nonsense that made no sense.

    Really enjoyed the video Lore... it's nice to branch out into other territories. While I say keep the Trek coming.... I and I'm sure others would love to hear what you have to say about those other franchises
    I loved Battlestar Galactica re-imagined and original (saw it when it was broadcast on TV here back in the early 80s) though I try and pretend.... with 1 exception... ( Return of Starbuck...) that Galactica 1980 never happened
    Just in case of spoilers, what is your policy for mentioning events from later in the series or indeed other franchises in the comments...
    I don't want to spoil shows if you are planning videos on them. .. (B5 is one with the 5 year story arc that might easily be spoiled.... 6 if you include Crusade)

      @LoreReloaded  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      SDF Macross?

    • @FMAylward
      @FMAylward 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s an Anime (macross.anime.net/wiki/Main_Page) and depending on what he means by original dub my opinion on that is the same as your opinion of throwing an Oberth into combat. If you want to get a test of the less “crazy” side of it and with an English language version of it I would advise “Macross Plus” though “Macross Frontier” is my favourite one.
      Due to stupid legal issues with the people who did the English translation claiming they own it and even trademarking things so the actual people who made it can’t release it outside of Japan only SDF and Plus have ever been translated into English (officially) and with SDF they decided to mash it with two other unrelated animes and try to make a coherent story. I have only heard bad things about that but never seen it myself and I have only seen the subbed versions of the others.
      PS: Macross independently came up with its own Oberth class (though debatable of if it’s also made out of explodium due to how quickly they died) and also named a ship Miranda. Also a piece of the Stargazer filming model for TNG had a part from a VF-1 Valkyrie model, the main fighter in SDF and I think a wing of one was used for sharpness in Riker's head in Yesterday's Enterprise. Memory Alpha

      @barrybend7189 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      FMAylward well I put Adv dub as that was the official English dub for SDF Macross. So not Robotech. And yeah the oberth of Macross had the same death rate as star trek oberths we even joked about it on the fleetyards Facebook page. Fun fact the Prometheus and deadelus in Stargate share the same names with the seagoing carriers attached to the SDF-1 Macross.

    • @FMAylward
      @FMAylward 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Star Trek, Stargate and Macross are my three Sci-Fis... If Macross can properly be given that title. Though to be fair on its Oberth class, while 100+ of them were obliterated in seconds and considering ships like the SDF Macross and New Macross Class might have been able to win Operation return in a single shot or ram a Borg Cube and survive I think they would have made decent single system patrol ships in the Star Trek universe. And here is my fun fact, did you know that Star Trek has the technology and science to theoretically put together a Macross reaction engine and by extent also make Stargate ZPMs.

    Adama was a commander, not captain. Captain in BSG is subordinate to Commander. The ranks from captain go something like Ensign->Lieutenant->Captain->Major->Colonel->Commander->Admiral with some intermediate ranks along the way.

    i wonder if you made this before watching the show or after. i mean like captain and even making the mistake of saying tracking devices. none of this is correct. the battle star galactica can take on two baystars. it can take damage from the baystar missiles hence why it put itself between the baystar and weaker ships. think of the ship as having a thicker skin to take massive missiles hits. it is a strong ship that can withstand a few nuck missile attacks. i think you need to watch the show again to refresh your memory on the subject matter. to much was wrong in the evaluation of this final battle before the fleet decided to retreat. oh yeah the tracking devices was the cylon humans themselves.

      If the Galactica were in her mid-war configuration from the first war, she'd have been able to do just that. The problem was simple. Galactica was an old, stripped down relic of an older battle doctrine. It's the equivalent of modern museum ships being rushed directly into a modern war.

    I stopped watching BSG after they landed on New Caprica. The long wait between seasons and major changes in my life meant I forgot about it until it was already finished.

    Couldn't they? I mean sorry, but Pegasus put the hurt on them and it was ONE BATTLESTAR (!)...if Cain had been a little more smart about it (and had raided fleet depots, mothball fleets (if they have something like that, which I think they do) and even the sites of the innitial battles (for munitions and maybe to even fix up some of those ships!), then she could have fought a guerilla war for YEARS with a chance of victory, because the Cylons didn't have a large industrial base (they had the colony and that's it! They didn't have worlds building ships by the dozens!)...especially if Cain had snatched up all the survivors in the colonies (Galactica only took the survivors from one planet and not even all of them, but only the ones from a smallish area!)
    For all we know there's other surviving ships that either chose to run in the other direction, to also fight (like Pegasus!) or to lay low and build up strength ;)
    "...was made president..." - You mean she usurped that office? IMHO she should never have asumed that office (no matter what the succession says! She's simply not qualified...unless she uses it to declare martial law and turn over command to the military till the current crisis is over!)...I'd love to read a fanfiction where Adama tells her to buzz off!

    How many civilians? A rounding error after they nuked colonial planets. In latter episodes you have genocide survivors arguing about be friendly with their killers. Even before any known character were officially declared cylon and hero at the same time.

      @@pollall2793Thanks. It makes sense. The colonists arrival fits in with the quick rise of Homosapiens and the subsequent explosion in human intelligence and technology advancement. It also fits in with ST canon of a very early species seeding the Galaxy millions of years earlier. That's why so many ST species are genetically compatible for reproduction with each other.
      The Cylons have laid out the groundwork to become the Borg. They have created AI links with each other and have drones doing the grunt work. All their useful knowledge is saved and transfer to other drone clones.
      BSG and ST appear quite well linked into one another.

      @@LoreReloaded They seem to use a Modified Marine/Army ranking. With Commander equal to Captain in the USN/RN, but every rank below takes on the usual Army/Marine layout. Skipping Lieutenant Colonel completely. It's okay, "Action Stations" was taken from the RN. The USN uses "General Quarters". A lot of RN/RA/RAF influences.

    I was never a real fan of this remake of BSG i always prefered the original with Lauren Green as Adama. Yes the visuals wasnt as good but the storyline was much better and easier to follow. Even the political situation was better handled than in the remake. The good thing about the remake was its budget. That allowed the visial effects to put on a real show. This was much darker and little optimism or hope than i cared for.

    I always thought the Twelve Colonies of Kobol were very lazy and idiotic in some aspects of their technology. No particle beams or phaser weapons? The armored ships make sense, but I think they could have easily progressed with particle beams and rapid phasers instead of projectile weaponry. And they didn't even think of reserve armies, so no wonder their empire fell.
