    It's the same reason I always tell people no when they ask for SPF, Vitamin C, or Retinol samples. Those little Sephora cups will absolutely destroy the product and they won't even see any kind of difference.

      From what I remember, glass creates more pollution in the recycling process than plastic. Generally glass is better for reuse and plastic (depending on the kind ofc) is better for recycling. Again, all from memory, could be wrong, definitely look it up yourself first if you consider behavior changes based on it.

      @@JacquelineUnderwood You are not wrong. Even from single use, glass is waaay more contaminant than acrilyc or PET. The thing with glass, it's that it can be reused about 100 times more than plastic before having to be recycled... That's where the pollution is compensated.

      I forget the brand but Im pretty sure the same brand that makes laundry bar to liquid detergent (you dissolve the bar in water to make the detergent at home) makes a similar product for liquid soap. Maybe something to look into? But either way, sustainability for consumers is about reduction. Elimination is great but just not feasible for a lot of people and that’s okay.

      I moved out of my parents home during my studies and there was this soap that smelled sooo good. I lost most of my smelling capacity, so I had to buy it. It was so expensive tho and not even in a big bottle. So I bought a little soap dispencer that made it all bubbly by mixing the soap with water. It worked great, smelled great, looked cute and I ended up spending less and using less plastic bottles than I would, had I only used the soap in it's original form (bought only 2 for a whole year!)

      large refill pouches for stable formulas (like a soap, moisturizer without actives). if it has to be a sealed plastic refill that goes inside of a component that you use long term, it should be an airless pump so you don’t have product waste. she showed one brand where the airless pump is part of the piece you keep longer which is even better bc then the refill component will be made with even less plastic. for things that must be sealed and the formula can’t withstand refills, they should be packaged in glass. that’s what i’ve gathered from watching her videos 🤷

  • @shadowman21282
    @shadowman21282 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I do like refill pouches for the most part. There is a lot less waste with them... But my problem is that most of the time, they stay as waste.
    A lot of them are made from non-recyclable materials or, like here in Australia, we had soft-plastics recycling where you could drop it all off in a bin at the supermarket... But they stopped doing that.
    Turns out they were getting more dropped off than they were capable of processing, it began to pile up in storage and supposedly a lot just ended up in waste anyway.

    Hi, i have a question... why are refills for body creams, perfumes, hair mask, ect. sometimes more expensive than the original container?

    • @allisonturquoise
      @allisonturquoise  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      Ooo such a great question! There's a few reasons....sometimes the pouches have a higher MOQ (minimum order quantity) meaning brands need to order larger quantities of them than their standard packaging...but sometimes brands can purchase lower MOQ pouches, but for a much higher cost per unit. Additionally not all fillers will fill pouches, so some brands have to pay more to actually fill the pouches with products compared to their standard packaging 🫠

    All producers of body butters and like 90% of body lotions have no excuse to produce refill pouches especially if they’re mid to high end. These are items that safely work despite being exposed to air all the time.

      Clearly you don't understand how chemistry works. Not all elements are as stable as others. That does not mean they do not have any value to your skin care routine. That is why they are packaged on opaque packaging and / or pump systems that does not let in extra air to the storage chamber. But you do you boo.

    • @gabrielabatista6016
      @gabrielabatista6016 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@hedonisticallyhealthy8577 indeed. Many perfumes have to be protected from light because it can degrade their aromatic components, for example.
      Also, paint! Lots of pigments do not hold well when constantly exposed to light (the measurement is called light fastness, btw), so much so that there are paintings that look different now because their colours have faded, like Van Gogh's (his favourite red had terrible light fastness, like, worst possible). Also, obviously you don't want your paint drying in the packaging because, unless it's watercolour/guache, that makes it useless. Even in gouache paint drying in the packaging can be a massive pain.
      So, yeah, nothing wrong with the product needing extra protection, not all chemicals are made the same, some are more delicate than others.
