    Hi Jeff. Thank you for the video. I am following your videos to do the bathroom Reno myself. Thanks to your videos I was able to tile the bathtub!! However, I tried to put the faucet back but it is not working. I did not change the previous faucets. When I put them back I see some of the water is coming from the tub faucet and some water is coming from the shower faucet handle. I moved in to the house recently and I don’t remember if this was an existing problem before I took out the faucet. Am I doing something wrong? Could you please help?

    I am installing a new Delta tub and shower faucet in a remodel project. I am using copper piping and the stub out for the tub spout is copper. The spout that came with the faucet set up has female threads at the front end of the spout. I have to install a 1/2''copper to 1/2 '' pipe male adapter. How do i measure for the length of this stub out before the adapter is soldered on? Or is there some type of easier way to do this ? Will the solder joints be strong enough for this type of installation?

    I have just started putting my bathroom back together, drywall going up now, thanks for your help via your videos. Trying to figure out what to put up. I am not interested in tiling so am looking for other options, My issue is that its a 1.5 storey house so your standard tub surround is never going to work literally unable to stand up in the tub and I can't seem to find one that doesn't have shelves or patterns. What else can i put up that will be waterproof and easy to clean?

      You should be able to purchase acrylic panels that are flat and have no shelves. Then you simply use a sealant caulk in the joints. Cheers!

    Hi Jeff-
    Really enjoyed your video. Question: what is actually happening inside the tub spout when you pull the lever and the water transfers from the spout to the shower head? When the knob on the spout is pulled up, how does the water get pushed up? Thank you!

    • @SirMike02
      @SirMike02 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Based on the one that I changed in my home (I'm no plumber so if there's variations I wouldn't know), there is a stopper that prevents the water from coming out the faucet. The water, not being able to leave the faucet, flows to the next available path, such is up to and out of the shower head. This is also why, even after the water is off, when you release the lever, water comes out the faucet; that's the water that was sitting in the pipe going up to the shower, draining from gravity.

    Hi Jeff. My partner and I are planning a main bathroom reno for next month, and we have had your videos on constant rotation lately. Great stuff!!! Very happy to have discovered your page.
    We are in the stage of planning out the details, and have our hearts set on matte black fixtures in the bath/shower (one unit). What are your thoughts on matte black shower/bath fixtures in terms of water and mineral spots? We live in a city where the water is considered hard, and our current chrome fixtures definitely show a lot of water spots. Are matte black fixtures a bad idea in your opinion? Thanks!

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      hard water shows on everything. I would suggest getting a water softener and eliminate the problem at the source. 30 bucks a month for rental and installation is free. Other than that I love the black. Make sure you buy from a supplier that sells the trim kit separate from the valve body. This way you can buy replacement trim in a different color down the road if design styles change. Just a thought.

    Jeff, another great video i desperately need to do my bathroom reno. I have a few questions & i hope you dont mind me mixing other videos around this topic that i watched of yours. So im going from a threaded pipe spout to a slip on like you did. I really thought I had to find a way to lengthen the copper since the new spout was very long compared t the old spout. Glad to see the copper doesnt have to go all the way down into the spout. But is there any reason why you didnt cut the copper much closer to the treading? I felt like it could have been longer and sit farther in the spout, but i dont really know. Second question: Ive seen you change copper to PEX pipe. Right now i have all copper but since i have a 4inch taller tub coming in, id have to lengthen the spout, valve, shower head. While im at it , I just decided its best to just change out the entire valve. So, do you recommend to solder the new valve in or just use the compression connectors with PEX ive seen you use. Id like to know your preference as to which you think will last longer or has less changes of issues. Thanks for reading in advance

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say that soldering is the easiest and most dependable option.

    Jeff, I recently converted a bath tub into a bath/shower combo following your videos. I just finished but now when I turn the water on it comes out of both the tub spout and shower. When I pull the diverter up the tub stops and the shower gets stronger. Looking for some advice? All the fixtures are brand new.

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tyler, if you used the pex to the tubspout you will find a back up of pressure can result in the water filling the tub from the shower as well. No worries since that is the goal anyway. In the video that you have asked the question in we plumbed it differently to avoid this problem. always read product instructions as they will inform you of this potential problem with their product.

    • @tylermercer3955
      @tylermercer3955 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Home RenoVision DIY thanks for the reply. I didn’t use pex I kept the old copper pipe for the tub spout and used pex for the shower. I’ll go back and check fixtures specs and see if I need to replace that.

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tyler Mercer, I can think of 3 things you can check out! First remove the cartridge for the diverter and give it a rinse in the opposite direction of water flow. You may have some debris stuck in the cartridge or valve body causing the disruption in flow to the tub faucet and that is why it is backing up. Second the tub faucet is a manual operation and it may just be faulty. try installing a new one. if the diverter closure inside the spout is not opening completely it will interfere with the water flow and cause a backup. Third if you did any soldering on the tub spout lines you may have over soldered and caused a solder ball to interfere with the diverter function. The tub spout will not be affected by any plumbing running to the shower head. Cheers , I hope this helps, please let me know what you find.

    In an apartment I used to live in I turned on the water and the entire handle shot across the room very violently. I never knew that could happen and used to sit in the tub when I turned the water on, meaning my face would be right in the line of fire!! Luckily I didn't that time.
