One can tell Yoko put the book together, or had major influence. Had Lennon lived, and got his head straight, this new edition would have looked much different, I think.
I think is Lennon's best. Criminally under rated. Why I think it's better? It's impeccably produced unlike the Spector previous albums and the awful wall of sound, and unlike Walls and Bridges which is heavily over produced. The live version of Walls and Bridges contained in one side of Menlove Avenue are the ones to go to. Seriously, Aisumasen, I know I know, Out the blue, Mind Games, One day at a time, Meat City, You are here. All these phenomenal songs.
John's POB was his best. Imagine a close second. My Favorite but not his best. Walls and Bridges. Underrated. Mind Games has its moments. Title Track is one of his best. I always felt John Voice should be right out front like POB. Bring on Lucie should be played loud along with Meat City it Rocks. Out of the Blue and I know are great as well. John's Box Sets are done really well.

Hope the remix and other versions live up to the cost and allow the music to come across better as its not his best album. How timely! I just picked a copy an Apple iPhone vinyl copy at an antique shop for eight bucks. I figured for the price of a beer it was a good buy. I’ll either like it or miss that beer!😂

John Lennon was a singular talent, however the manner of his death has amplified his solo career beyond its true measure. He was a good solo artist, but not comparable to Paul McCartney or George Harrison. It looks like they have just found an admittedly impressive way, to sell more John Lennon.

I AM a HUGE Beatles Fan - but in the cold light of day, HIS solo output was far below Paul's in terms of quality and quantity. I like MindGames the song, and - of course - another 9 or 10 of his 1970s output, but after the Beatles he simply never reached anything like those heights again - after 1974, certainly. Just my view - sorry if it offends. IMHO Only McCartney's Band On The Run truly stood comparison with The Beatles' albums.....and certainly Lennon loved that album. Still hard to believe that when they broke up they were aged 27 to 30 - what might they have done TOGETHER in the 70s ?!?!
I don't see the need for all this fancy stuff for an album with just one good song, unlike the new Black Sabbath Tony Martin's era boxset with 4 amazing albums with 97% of good songs and a much cheaper price.
I’m familiar with the song Mind Games but nothing else from this album. Like his Beatles band mates John’s post Fab Four albums left me largely unimpressed. Almost none of John, Paul and George’s solo work approached the quality of their Beatles output. They were definitely greater than the sum of their parts.
for me its only worth buying for 3 cds i dont care for those elemental mixes and the evolution documentarys its far too overpriced for what it is other than that mind games is a fine album great title track and a shout out for i know i know

Then there's the weird morse code that the boxed set came package in. Who konws what else? Still really looking forward to it!!!! JUst got to get saving my pennies, and quick!! Cheers!!
My own opinion is these bands waited way too long to release these type of sets.Most of the core fans are either too old,if still alive,and just aren't interested in spending an arm and leg for these sets.
I’m a Lennon guy all the way. John Lennon is the beatles as far as I’m concerned. However, there came a point where he just lost it. By 73 he was washed and out of ideas. Plastic ono and imagine are amazing. After those it was all mediocre. 3 to 4 strong cuts from new york city, mind games and walls/bridges is about what you get. ‘The luck of the Irish’ on new york city is a beautiful song though

Yes. I agree the production does it no favours. That is why i intend giving the deluxe edition a listen. However, i still doubt many of the songs could potentially rise to the standard of the songs on Plastic Ono Band and Imagine. Aside from the brilliant title track, John just seems a little off. Out Of The Blue does have potential, and a few of the others are ok, but a little inconsequential. There is an aor feel to many of the songs, that may benefit from hearing the songs in a stripped down form. Sometime In New York City did suffer from a heavy handed approach that the songs had to be a message primarily, but a few were still decent (Woman Is The Nigger Of The World and New York City particularly), and i did like the sound very much of the Elephants Memory backing. With Mind Games there is much less to like (aside from as i mentioned previously the title track). There is something about Lennon's voice i find less appealing, too. He kind of sounds thinner and more pinched up.

If you look as his work as a whole it has some fine songs on it! The production is lacking as is the musicianship. I don’t think the running order of the songs is right, it’s John, but it’s not. It’s interesting and well worth a listen !

I´m sick of all these remaster, remixed, anniversary box set, etc etc ...every 5 years... hiper expensives and obviously "limited edition"...buy NOOOW !!! All "rare stuff" are demos and live versions with horrendous sound that you hear ONE time and then, back to the basic CD. There are some box sets that worth it , like Ramones first albums, STP, Thin Lizzy ... and a few more-
I think it’s one of his weakest albums. Walls & Bridges for me is his best musically and lyrically and doesn’t get anywhere near the credit it deserves. Funny that it was done when he wasn’t with Yoko too..

New mix and all the hidden tracks and guff doesn’t make it a better album. Lennon’s nowhere man said a review in 1973. Still the case in 2024

If you look as his work as a whole it has some fine songs on it! The production is lacking as is the musicianship. I don’t think the running order of the songs is right, it’s John, but it’s not. It’s interesting and well worth a listen !

I´m sick of all these remaster, remixed, anniversary box set, etc etc ...every 5 years... hiper expensives and obviously "limited edition"...buy NOOOW !!!
All "rare stuff" are demos and live versions with horrendous sound that you hear ONE time and then, back to the basic CD.
There are some box sets that worth it , like Ramones first albums, STP, Thin Lizzy ... and a few more-

I think it’s one of his weakest albums. Walls & Bridges for me is his best musically and lyrically and doesn’t get anywhere near the credit it deserves. Funny that it was done when he wasn’t with Yoko too..
