Looked up what the scales and guages mean. Sheldon gets it wrong! HO guage is approx half the scale of O therefore half as long, half as wide, half as high so approx 1/8 the size. Similarly, N scale is approx half scale of HO so 1/8 size of HO and 1/64 size of O. Turns out there are differences of meaning between guage and scale and UK different from world. Whoever thought toy trains was such a thing! Amazing to see what levels of modelling go on - vast layouts and astonishing detail down to wear and tear, graffiti, etc. Some make pretty heavy social history comments and approach art as sculpture, concept, craft, imagination. Back to my hobbies of cycling and home improvements. Modelling trains looks like too much hard work - and it's 'modelling' not playing with toys.
