Guys and women have been running model trains for 70-80 years now. Model railroading can be a fun and fascinating hobby because there is so many aspects to capture and hold your attention for years!

Exactly! I'm fed up with this assertion that adults can't have fun. I've had the same discussion with some colleagues who have called me "childish" for liking video games. My retort was asking if they'd rather I spend my time playing golf and talking about my mortgage at dinner parties.

Be that as it is, however, there is nothing in life more satisfying than getting an antique model locomotive that has not run in decades, is covered in rust, and has a seized up motor, and restoring it to look and run like new. No drug in the world can compare to the high from a sucessful restoration.

TBH. Bachmann Starter train sets are infact a great start to the Model railroading hoby, but they are made from cheap plastic. so thats why I usually buy Walthers, Athearn's, or MTH Locomotives/ rolling stock. I also use HO scale BTW.
I am 45 and the G scale set my grandfather gave me in 1985 when I was 8, still runs to this day. I recently bought more tracks and cars, cant wait to display it around the Christmas tree this year.

You know what, I think it’s cool Sheldon has no shame playing with model trains. Wish I had appreciated my toys when I was younger because they were genuinely cool and well made. Don’t often see quality toys anymore. If I had half the imagination I did back then and none of the fear of embarrassment, I might try it. But even though I don’t play with the toys, I still save and display them.
It also appears to offer the most types of accessories. There are things available in HO scale that would be impractical to offer in O or N scale. For instance, Faller's line of HO scale amusement rides.
I've been a Lionel man all my life.. my 15 year old son is as obsessed as I am,even as we speak on my round breakfast table I have a test track set up in a circle, I get my trains out, about twice a year. oil them up,, go through them, then put them away till Christmas due to the climate that I live in make sure they are well oiled and in running condition. Any heavy work needs to be done or they need anything, I leave a note in the box and I have a book, a binder every engine every car every accessory is written in that book and the condition that it's in and what it needs... If I had to sell what I had just here, not to mention the top of my collection which is elsewhere,? I got about 10 grand every train is packed an oil and moisture barrier paper and then wrapped in bubble wrap and securely put away....
I'm 21 years old and everytime I see my nephews play with the wooden train set I used to have I always feel super jealous.
