  • The KIA E-Niro is one of the most popular EVs out there right now. Seriously, you'll see them everywhere!
    And that's with good reason - great interior, good range, and no fuss. In fact, in the UK the e-Niro was the second highest selling EV in 2021.
    But does the face-lifted 2022 Niro EV match the lofty expectations set by the previous model? Tish takes a look!
    0:00 Introduction
    1:11 How does it look?
    3:50 Boot space + frunk
    4:19 Spacious interior

    The slow DC charging would be a deal breaker for me. 240KW like the EV6 would be overkill, but at least give us like 120-130KW like its rivals.

    • @chrispenn715
      @chrispenn715 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agree with you - I would only need it half a dozen times a year, but the time to recharge on those few long trips makes it unfeasible, unfortunately. Otherwise, near perfect!

    • @julianbell9586
      @julianbell9586 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agree. I have the ioniq 5 and have only found 50kw DC chargers at best in Scotland so not able to use the higher charge rate... But 50 kw fine for me. Why don't they have a drawer for a fronk sliding out Vs lifting the bonnet? and why not a kick down on accelerator to drop into sport mode when you need it Vs having to change button?

    • @fraserreddick8828
      @fraserreddick8828 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrispenn715 Yes, it seems a really nice car in most ways but that charging speed limits it to either a second car in a family or for people who will genuinely never travel more than about 100 miles on a trip. Even it it's a few times a year it is just too slow. Also it's really going to look bad as a used prospect in a few years when more and more cars will be 200kw+ and 350kw chargers will be much more common. I will stick with my EV6 (if it ever gets off the boat it is currently sitting on...)

    • @Richard-io9xe
      @Richard-io9xe ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Chris, so you would turn away from a car that, in so many other ways, hits the sweet spot of features, range and efficiency for the price, because half a dozen times a year you would need to spend an extra 20 minutes charging it. So, a total of 2 extra hours per YEAR?
      Strange call if you ask me. Yes, it would be great if it charged a little faster, but given how it fits my requirements in every other way, I think it would be mad to see it as a deal breaker. Mine is on order and i can't wait.

    As an EV6 owner, Kia is knocking it out of the park at the moment. Just a shame about the slow charging speed on this new Niro. By the way, the cutaway shot during the "drive mode" segment shows the wrong button on the steering wheel; the Drive Mode button is on the bottom left of the wheel; that Mode button you show controls the infotainment IIRC.

    I love my existing Kia Niro 4+ EV, I attended a local demonstration of the all new Niro, I found the all new version impressive. However I will not be purchasing this car in the future for one simple reason, they have now joined the central console to the facia, thereby closing the gap that exists with the current model. I took a long time researching the EV models available, I have sciatica down the back of my left leg and find this gap very useful in allowing me to move my leg sideways, having it in a fixed position without movement proves very uncomfortable for me.
    My last two cars were the Nissan Leaf EV and MG ZS EV, these also had a cockpit feel with no space to move my leg sideways. Its a small change but inportant to me, enough to stop me considering the all new model.

    Pre-ordered the level 2 over a month ago now and finally got to test drive one over the weekend and it was a great drive, however the technology inside was disappointing.
    The infotainment system is older and the screen just doesn't look as nice compared to the higher specs because it's not long one long piece of glass but plastic surrounding the screens.
    Also the place where you have the buttons for heated and ventilated seats are just left blank but the square is still there, so you'll always feel like you're missing features when it's so in your face like that.
    Decided to upgrade to the level 3. Means I'll get a month or two later but for a car I'm planning to keep for the long haul, I think I'll be much happier!
    I do wish I could get the level 4, but that's just too unaffordable for me and the extras you get above the level 3 didn't make it worth it imo

But I actually love the two tone rear piece makes the car less boring having it all one colour. You covered alot of design elements but everyone is to their own on that and as for charging curve until Bjorn, Tom or Kyle have done charging tests I wouldn't believe Kia on the charge curve just yet. Looks a decent car. It has a more realistic 0-60 and although the range has not increased much over the old model, it is still good and liveable. The "But" comes in with the prices starting from £36,245 and the model you reviewed is over £41k. The same new car in hybrid guise starts at £27,745. So that is almost £10k less and yet hybrids are more complicated to build. To justify these prices they add in every extra you want and many you don't want or need. EV evangelists will say "you save in the running costs" and yes you do. The major cost though of any car is the purchase/hire, unless you spend £1,000 to buy a forty year old V8 Range Rover and obviously the fuel and repairs will be significant.
    Why do car companies not offer a stripped out "It has Aircon and electric windows but not much else" model? Plus those virtual buttons for aircon and media in that Niro EV need to be got rid of. To use them, you have to take your eyes of the road. Too often see people weaving as if they are drunk drivers but in reality they are probably just trying to change the temperature or fan speed. For stuff like that, you really need physical buttons or switches.
    I really hope when the Smart One comes out they don't follow the crowd, stack them with tech and then charge as much as they can. Be good to see them at £29k without all the cheap chintz as that is their customer base.

    I have to say that, as long as the bloody thing works, I couldn't give a flying f**k about the exterior styling. It's other people that will have to look at it, not me.
    I much prefer the interior of this to the EV6, but the poor charging performance is a big let down.
    You really should have mentioned that this will now be able to tow stuff, something that the old one couldn't. It may not be important to you, but it is a deal breaker to me.
    I'd pretty much dismissed the EV6 as my future car anyway(more expensive than the Hyundai, and I really don't like the interior), so this is actually more like a shootout between the Ioniq 5 and the Niro EV, How much is fast charging worth to me? Well, I only do over 250km at a stretch when I go on my hols, but is it worth stressing out on my hols because of slow charging?
    I think that ultimately it will all come down to the specific deal I can get on one or the other. And at the moment there really are no offers available because demand is far outstripping supply.
