    Dale,
    On a personal level I love your channel. I watch most of your videos, and the Piccadilly Line videos especially. You are insightful and entertaining and those qualities make all your videos worth watching. You have the vault of videos already, and people will continue to watch and enjoy them going forward.
    On a professional level, I also understand why TFL did this. I work in the rail industry, and there would be obvious safety concerns about your videos. On the one you videoed yourself driving, looking at the camera was clearly distraction. You may not have been distracted, but the ability to be distracted was clear. On a number of your videos you expressed how tired you were. We don't know your personal situation, the reasons your tired. But we do know you travel a lot, and you spend a lot of time editing videos. Your managers may put 2+2 together, and come up with 5. Saying you are tired was in this format, not a great idea.
    This video is also interesting. If you worked for my TOC, there is a strict 45 minute from base rule for safety critical roles. It blows my mind someone can drive Tube trains who lives in Peterborough. You are very fortunate.
    The point is that people raising these comments are not just meanies with bad intentions (maybe some are, but not exclusively). People like myself were worried that if the wrong people saw that (your managers) they would take issue. You have tried to be careful in what you show, and what you say, and you have done an admiral job treading a careful line. But a couple of times, you've inadvertently done something innocent, but as a line manager I'd be wary of.
    A couple of years ago, Tom the Taxi driver was written to by TFL because some of what he was doing was problematic. He posted a similar video to yours here about it. But through discussion TFL and knowing the boundaries, he was able to change his content to be compliant. 2 years later, the same sort of videos he was making before are still being made, as well as new types of content in the studio, and on the diversity of London.
    I don't know if you've watched his channel, but I would urge to you have a think about what he's done. His channel and operation since has been incredibly professional and I doubt any lingering concerns remain at TFL. Obviously, being a taxi driver is very different to the Piccadilly Line driving. But his case where TFL originally wanted him to stop, and he adapted and continued to grow and improve his channel is a good lesson.
    I wish you all the best for the future, and will continue to watch your videos when the bell notification lights up. I do think TFL are right at this moment to at least take a pause. Look on the bright side. You have a great job loads of people would die for! You still have your channel. And you can still enjoy traveling and holidays. Not being able to film your driving, it's not a great loss to your life. Remember to be grateful, and we'll continue to be grateful for the content you do create.

      Agree. It also would be quite unfortunate if an accidant actually happened and the investigation showed the driver was making a youtube video. No matter if it affected the accident or not, it would be of huge interest to the public and would raise questions about TFL policy and safety.

      Regarding the travel time to work, that only applies to new drivers joining. Once you're in, you can move wherever you like. This is particularly true for London depots, where cost of living is outrageous.
      At my (intercity) TOC, there's plenty of drivers who live between 1-2 hours from the depot, and a handful who live further than that, and it's really no big deal. I personally live 90 miles away, but use public transport which takes me about an hour and a half door to door.

    Dale, thank you for everything.
    You’d think TFL would appreciate having an affable person like you not only promoting the service but explaining why delays happen. And it didn’t cost them a penny.
    But as long as you are soliciting suggestions, I think many of us lot would enjoy seeing you take us to the trolley bus museum in Sandtoft. Perhaps on one of the few days per year when members of the public are allowed to drive.
    Anyway thank you again and best wishes.

    I’m so sorry to hear this Dale, having met you and spending a shift with you, to me, you come across as a great ambassador for us drivers opening up our role as train operators to the public. It’s strange though that this is an issue, as you passed your ideas of filming to local management and they were ok with it. I for one, will carry on watching your vids. Hopefully, providing you don’t give up, some common ground can be met with TFL on what could be posted to represent the aspects of train driving and all therein. Take care fella.

    Honestly I am surprised it took them this long to shut this down. It's still very sad to see this format go. As a train driver from germany it is always interesting to see how different railways operate and what the working conditions are like. Thankfully the german TOCs recently have become quite friendly to such endevours.
    Obviously I don't know the exac background of why it was shut down, but I think it's very unfortunate that no compromise could be found. Like, for example, having you add the comemntary in post instead of doing it live. Anyway, whats done is done. Hopefully the past videos can at least stay op on your channel. It was always fun watching you do your job, you could really tell, that you have a lot of fun doing it.
    All the best from Germany!

      I love these type of videos. I've always been fascinated by the infrastructure, so it's very interesting to hear the driver comment on signals, the cab and so on; something you don't see as a passenger. Hello from Melbourne, Australia.
    Sad news indeed. Those videos will be missed.
    Some immediate ideas for you to consider:
    1) Tales from the Tube -- a series covering some of those stories drivers love to share amongst themselves. Perhaps consider inviting other drivers for a face to face discussion over a meal break. 2) On a couple of your videos you bring up items of interest that you never seem to follow up on. One example is the floodgates protecting the lines going under the Thames. They have been covered by Hidden London and the LT Museum, but it would be interesting to hear a driver's perspective.
    3) The Piccadilly and Brampton Railway has a very convoluted history. Perhaps a recap from a driver's perspective.
    4) There are a number of historical railways around the UK. What is it like from a modern driver's perspective to operate a historic train -- electric, diesel, or steam? How does the "Old Ways" of operating a train differ from today?
    5) When you are travelling, how about a look at the train system, or a chat with a train driver or two from the city you are visiting. Sort of a mini busman's holiday.
    6) What you call moaning on about stuff can be interesting for some people (or a lot for that matter). Perhaps the occasional personal essay about a subject that interests you. Don't think others won't be interested as it's a big a world and you're not just talking to those you see every day.

    This is some sad news indeed. As a train enthusiast, I genuinely enjoyed watching your Piccadilly line videos and learning about what it's like working on the Underground. I know it's upsetting, but don't let this setback discourage you from growing your channel. If you're looking for ideas, I'd say transit is the way to go. These videos seem to do well on your channel, and it's also a growing niche on the platform. Would definitely love to see you do videos about other transit systems and hear your opinions on them. For example, the NY subway if you're back in the States. Your experience as an operator would make them all the more interesting. Either way, I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do with the channel and hope you're doing alright.

    Suggestions;
    got tons...
    all of these with aesthetic and sensation friendly aspects (observational-pleasure of the senses *huge topic*):
    1) driver instructor - travel videography
    (including stories, perspective and educational value also your natural reactions
    and comedic qualities are pure-copper worthy) *diversity-friendly is a plus*
    2) Vlogs of an unusual and rarer ; observational nature
    (there's a synchronization when memories are formed and or brought-back from expression which can be an art-form in itself)
    from both parties; *I'm not against the walks and talks either*
    3) Creative-flow, Work-flow; (behind the scenes and q&a from all on the table; can be very invigorating)
    *especially if it's newer and or refreshing; full of flavour*
    4) Personable videos; because talking about happiness; achievements, sadness, limitations
    ;etc and struggles (even if about mental health)
    in life are fascinating and also ways to explore, experience and understand aspects;
    that we may and or may not; thought of yet; (from all sides of the table).
    It sucks to not be seen; but even more when limitations; don't allow us to live our individuality. :(
    *I've genuinely benefited from videos of this nature in the past; (should be a optional; standard)
    5) Videos showing amazing, fascinating and bizarre aspects of observation and interaction which is a part.
    6) Life Journey (showing house renovations, life changes and so on)
    7) Social-able videography (videos of socializing aspects regardless of context)
    8) Natural videography (videos in nature;etc)
    One things for sure; there's an combination
    of pleasantry; purity, unusual-nest, rarity and comedy here that you have grown into;
    which a lot of people; enjoy being a part of; but personally am also insanely intrigued
    by the inner workings of a person; unless our perspectives clash then; I quickly lose interest;
    tentatively at times.
    Hope this helps; greatly!
    so sick of people destroying the fun for others;
    hopefully things will get better in the future after that madness; for you and others also myself!
    *saw the newts ;(*

    I literally just discovered your channel today and have been binging the Piccadilly Line vids... so this is quite the anti-climax! What (presumably TfL) perhaps doesn't quite appreciate is that these kind of videos actually allow a greater understanding of the complexities of the tube network, and can consequently help alleviate public frustration when services fail, or congestion strikes, or any other number of things that might go wrong in the course of a day. And conversely - certainly in me at least - they spark appreciation for the infrastructure and put a real, relatable human face to the trains I ride when I'm in London. If the company had any sense they would employ a few people to work with content creators on their staff to enable them to keep producing videos in a sanctioned manner. It would actually be great PR.

    It's really sad. Crazy how in 2024 these train companies are run by people with an ancient mentality. There is a lot of following around cab rides, train spotting and so on, blocking it is simply ridiculous. It was enough to follow your videos to understand that recording did not distract you since you commented live on what was happening, you did not show anything sensitive, and you did not do stupid things when you drove.
    Your videos on Saturday evening were really beautiful and had entered my weekly routine, I will miss them as will many others. ❤️

    That is sad news since I only found you in late September when I was stuck on my sofa for a week with covid. Particularly interesting for me since Hounslow West has been my station for 63 years (including when it was the end of the line) with a gap of 25 when I lived elsewhere. I now find myself looking at the cab when the train comes in to see if it's you. Even though I binge watched quite a few, it sounds like I have a fair number of videos to catch up on, so I hope they can remain public. As others have said, it's your narration that makes them special and unique. I've looked at a couple of others but I find I can't watch those that are just the view with no narration. I'll remain a subscriber and look forward to watching your future content. Good luck.

    Hiya Dale. Very sad news about the Piccadilly Line videos. I really enjoyed them. As I’ve said before they’ve brought some happy memories of trips on that line to see my cousin when she was stationed at Hounslow Barracks in Hounslow West back in the 80s. I’ll miss those videos.
    Anyway it’s just a thought but how about a series of videos of the view from the windscreen of your car all along the entire length of the A1/A1(M) from its start in London to its end at Edinburgh. It can be split into segments and maybe a complete circuit of the M25/A282 and then choose a road number, find its start and end and drive the full length of it breaking the videos up into parts and releasing a part every week once or twice a week.
    Again Dale it’s sad news about the Piccadilly Line videos, whatever the reason you can’t film the Piccadilly Line videos but at least that’s all the bad news was and not that you’ve been made redundant. Who knows maybe one day you’ll be able to film the Piccadilly line again.

    Ah such sad news! Only started watching recently but loved all the videos. It gave me a really interesting insight into the Piccadilly Line and what you and the drivers do every day. The transparency into how the drivers work is also important for the underground I think. You were a ambassador for the underground staff and helped to show the human side. Dale, you strike me as a decent guy who's suffering from *Kill joy jealousy* I- I have enjoyed watching and listening to you rambling away (in the nicest way) checking the signals, explaining the skidding thing, etc, etc, etc.
    You haven't hurt anyone and you haven't brought the underground into disrepute and it's not illegal nor distracting (what you do in the cab). In fact your films have shown all who've watched them how hard the staff on the Underground actually work. How they (the staff) put themselves out so that Londoners can get around and overall are generally very helpful.... Like I say - this is *Kill Joy Jealousy* - it also underlines that although most people are decent souls, there still are those who aren't.
    I wish you the very best of luck in your future, whatever you do, once you leave the Underground. National Rail need drivers too - and you can find a station much closer than 75 miles away!
