That is a great-looking bike! And no doubt would be fun to ride! Makes me wonder what kind of person would do a thumbs-down on this beautiful bike!! Got to be snowflakes!

A buddy of mine had a 71’ CL 175 in high school. The CL model had the high along the side (scrambler) exhaust. Very similar to the CB model in regards to the fenders, etc.
He wasn’t very experienced as a rider and often let me ride it with him as passenger. Bike wasn’t a rocket by any means but it was a really fun good running bike to ride around town. This makes me nostalgic for all great Honda bikes of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Suckers we’re absolutely dead reliable and ran years and years trouble free.

It was geared Waaay too low. I could not even attempt to get on the freeway with mine. It might do all of 60mph.
Great around town and very light dirt roads, but it was too heavy for any serious off road use.

I had a '71 CL 175 when I was in high school. At the time I weighed about 145 . I had it up to right about 73 mph and not sure it was totally topped out. That engine supposedly made 20 hp which is pretty darn good for a 175.

I love the SL 175! When I was about 14 a friend in my neighborhood & his sister each got one. Robby had the orange one & Dawn had a teal colored one. Those where the funnest, bikes to ride & they where bulletproof! They was the best bike an the neighborhood… until I got my Kawasaki KD 175! Now that was a bike of bikes

    Amazing bike!

Very impressive, and very rare. However, compared to it's competition of the day, it wasn't a particularly powerful bike on the lower end and it was a bit of a lead sled off road (heavy). Still, it's a Honda and that little 175 twin is bulletproof!

I had one a 1973 s.l.175.the neat thing about the motor is that both pistons come up together and fire at same time it makes it shake sitting at a red light.

Yah I have no doubt that li'l twin is one a toughest reliable motors Mr. Honda ever built I kept the throttle twisted just REV'IN the NUT OFF IT WOT style MOST of the time mirrors blur'in en push'in 70 on hundreds of miles round trips open megaphone pipes I pieced together myself to showcase that awesome twin music the thing sounded like it would run 150 I put 50k on that bike en when I sold it was still tight as a drum en didn't use a drop a oil very same experience with the CB'S 175 and 350's seem like you'd have to some pretty intentional bad stuff ta get one a these little bikes to explode

Brings back a lot of good memories. I too had the CB 175 in my first few years of high school. I was the coolest kid in school. Everyone loved it, everyone rode it. Easy to ride and as you say. Bulletproof.
P.S. in Junior High I had the Honda CB160. I think it was a mid 60's model.

These bikes are very cool, my little brother had one that thing
hauled @ss, of course we had to
modify the exhaust, made that thing sound a full blown race bike. Now that I'm old "61"my
SL350 in his back yard that I
think I need, the Honda 4 stroke
addiction is bad in my family.
    THANK'S from NOR-CAL!!!!!

I had a 71 CL175 with that same engine and I had mine up to 73 mph. I was 16 at the time and weighed about 145 lbs and the rear sprocket could be a different size than the SL but the CL175 went well. If you're heavy your milage may vary as they say.

I can not believe how good that thing sounds for having such small pistons.. Japan is weird, a 175 is considered to be a small thumper but a 175 twin?! WHY?!

    • @jimokeefe5086
      @jimokeefe5086 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

If you wanted a thumper, buy the XL175. But, the SL175 is the more powerful and higher revving twin. Also better looking and faster. The frame of the SL175 is beautiful, matching up with the engine.
