Lots of it is internalized colorism for sure. Yup! I’ve interviewed UABW on this channel and one of them said she didn’t want her daughter to be an unambiguous DSBW like herself because she didn’t want her daughter to suffer . Exactly, when I watch telenovelas there are mainly white people on them so I made SURE to watch “Siempre bruja” and I also followed the actress on instagram , googled her name etc. this is why I also tend to watch shows that feature more Afro mixed latinas as well. I don’t want to play into needing white validation or viewing white shows, white people, and white opinions as the standard on how I view myself .

Oh that’s my personal experience haha! I can do a video on it! For me though I would say I knew I was pretty even though I wasn’t white, because there were lots of celebs and other women who looked like me. The way it manifested for me was that I viewed those celebs as regular who looked like me . Beyoncé , Aaliyah, Halle berry etc.
Most of these insecurities start in the home. Older black women, whether it’s mom, aunties, sisters, female cousins etc… they will tell young black girls that we are ugly and will not be beautiful and men will never dare or marry us but will use us for sex. Yes I’m a victim of this nonsense and certain men especially Nono black men don’t make it no better in terms of them flocking to nonblack and light skinned women.
