Wow, one of the best ballads of all time. I am currently learning piano just to be able to play this song. Faithfully still brings this 59 year old to tears everytime I hear it. Thank you for such a beautiful and moving song.
This song is amazing, I can see why Steve wanted to record it for himself. However, it really was a Journey song and Steve's vocals are the most beautiful ever heard. Thank you Jon for writing this beautiful song.
Beautifully written this was a very emotional book for anyone who followed Journey and the relationships. The book is about Jonathan's life, and could have just as easily been named Faithfully due to all the times God's hand was on his shoulder. It was also about the Brotherhood he had with Steve Perry for all those years, and I thought it showed beautiful respect for all the members of Journey. Great book
The most powerful, beautiful and soul-shaking piece of music ever written and the vocals by Steve Perry just sells it as the most heartfelt and soul-driven performance that leaves me breathless every time I hear it. The guitar riff at the end of the song just breaks me. Everything about this song and the passionate manner in which it was performed rings true in every soul that hears it. It's the most powerful song and my ultimate favorite song in the whole universe. I was 12 years old when this song released and 30 years later, I am still moved as if it's the first time ever hearing it. It's truly inspired. BRAVO and thank you for sharing your gift with us!
@@abrahamlincoln1677 Ok, fine. I have a flare for the dramatic. Comes naturally as I'm an artist. But you needed to comment on that when I only wanted to express how deeply this song moves me?
Thank you for the music. We will never meet but please know that Journey has been with me during my own Journey. The impact you have made in my life through your music is beyond measure. Thank you. God Bless
I heard the song came to Jonathan in a dream, took all 30 minutes to write the whole song, it all started with the opening line, " highway run, into the midnight sun, wheels go round and round "
WOW!!! that's awesome to know about how the song came about. You're right, Steve is the one of (but to me HE IS) the greatest VOCALIST and Singer of al TIME. Thank you Jonathan.
I'll tell you Jonathon when I heard this song, when I saw you guys at Byrne Arena in East Rrutherford, NJ back in 1983 I got chills too. I still do even almost 40 years later when I hear it.
Frontiers was recorded after the Escape tour, in fall of 1982 Street talk was recorded after the Frontiers tour, in late 1983 Caine has his story all mixed up.
That's why people in the music industry have a lot of issues with Cain. He says he's a Christian, but I like others, have a really hard time believing anything he says.
Beautiful song don't understand why Steve didn't jump all over it earlier I was in the 7th grade school dance when I first heard it and I knew it was a hit special song thanks for writing it
dude i’m telling you, songs have a life of their own. my band is working on this one track right now and it’s giving us hell. it wants to come out, it wants to shine, but it’s not here yet. you just can’t force things, you can’t rush them.
True, no one has a voice like Steve and could emit the emotion while singing as he does, to make a ballad sound this good. But even if u found someone with a good voice today to have sung these lyrics, it wouldn't be appreciated cuz it's a different "audience." Imo the millennials today don't have a taste for good lyrics and quality vocals; they just like to see what they think is an attractive peer (ie. Selina Gomez, Justin Bieber, etc) making sexual movements on stage singing meaningless repetitive words with all sorts of distracting audio enhancement. That's the music they worship. They have no sophisticated palette for true talent creating a quality song!
This live, the one in Tokyo, and Eagles "Take it to the Limit" live are the most striking male vocal performances I can think of. Hopefully they don't autotune Steve as they have done with Randy. "Remastered" is a word I look to avoid seeing when listening to a recording. I prefer reality, even when there are a few blemishes, over fantasy. If they would just remix, that would be ok, but they don't stop there, they do the autotune thing. The vocals don't even sound human after that.
Funny he doesn’t mention he had the song as far back as when he was with the Babys. He presented it to John Waite and John shot it down. I’ve read that in more than just one place.
@@benjones1715Nothing can ever be as good as the original but someone has to keep the song & music alive as Steve stepped out & Arnel steps in. His journey on TH-cam videos landed him to Journey with the band as a lead singer.

Stops me in my tracks every time I listen to this song. A favorite for sure!
Faithfully is one of the most emotive and compelling love song ever written. I will always love this song! ❤❤❤❤❤

Your piano made the songs! Faithfully will always be my favorite song, I'm instantly taken back to a wonderful time in my youth! You rock Johnathan

Absolutely love this song and nobody does it better than Steve Perry!
You make magic with music.
magical!
I told my wife that this song is how i feel about her. She loved it.

I wonder if John, Steve and Neil really know how much this music means to us all.
By the way, the piano work in that song is out of this world. Very powerfull.
And so simple and easy to play, some of the most beautiful pieces of music are like that. Simple and powerful
Thanks Jonathon, great story and I will definitely be picking up a copy of your book!

He was probably planning in recording that solo album at the time anyway
That’s awesome. 💙💜❤️
I did not realize Perry had already released a solo album before Faithfully was released.
Listen to the guitar solo of Prince's Purple Rain, it was inspired by Faithfully.
Damn that intro is spectacular!!!!
One of the best ever... perhaps second to his other song Don’t Stop Believin’
Steve probably Neil would not go for it but glad you went through with it John I hope you and Steve are close

If it was done today it wouldn’t do crap. Only because Nobody has a voice like Steve Perry in the music world nowadays.

John Waite's song Change that came out 1982, melodically sounds just like Faithfully which came out in 1983. 🤔

This is why neal cannot fire Jonathan Cain because he can't,😁
Interesting.
Did you know this song inspired Bryan Adams to write "Heaven"?
most people just say this is a wonderful song without realizing the fact..... no good composer no good song...
NFL Films did the video.
Have to say, that these days I just love Arnel Pinada's Version
