Wrong...he was not a draft dodger...read the history please!! He proved to be right! The war was wrong and the u.s. lost the war..when u have to leave thats not a victory
Anybody alive at the time knows it. Clay became a Muslim in 1961 and changed his name in 1964. He wasn't drafted until 1966 and called up in 1967. That's when he was convicted. Ali claimed he qualified for conscientious-objector status because he opposed the war as a black Muslim. Ali said “my conscience won’t let me go shoot my brother, or some darker people, or some poor hungry people in the mud for big powerful America,” he said. “And shoot them for what? They never called me [the N word], they never lynched me, they didn’t put no dogs on me, they didn’t rob me of my nationality, rape and kill my mother and father…. Shoot them for what? How can I shoot them poor people? Just take me to jail.” The Supreme Court reversed his conviction 1971 after reading Elijah Muhammad’s Message to the Blackman in America. Most of America hated our involvement in Vietnam and it became the first and only war the US ever lost, so far. Ali wasn't allowed a boxing license for 3 years of his fighting prime to a conviction that was eventually overturned.
It has long been proven that anyone from the USA that fought in that war was duped. Why would he fight for a country that would allow him to represent it in the Olympics but he was still unable to use the same restroom or eat in the same restaurants as those asking him to go to war many states ? Only a real fool and yes man would do that.
All this ridiculous praise for wepner makes me sick. He was a dirty fighter he fought a dirty fight against Muhammad Ali and got away with it period the referee should have got his license revoked it was an absolute absurd violation of the rules to watch the way wepner fought Muhammad Ali. And he didn't knock him down, he stepped on his foot there is an actual photo of it, to make him fall
💯💯agree with you! It was such a disgraceful fight! The back of the head illegal punches that the referee did not call out on Chuck Wepner was extremely sad because we know what brain damage and suffering (Parkinsons) Ali went through. As soon as the first back of the head shot happened, there and then Ali should have punished his opponent, and end the fight through knock out!
There was only one fighter at this level who never went down but he was never a world champion. The Canadian George Chuvalo fought everybody in the top spots and stayed upright.

Initially, I was like a lot of people that didn't like Cassius Clay avoiding the Draft, during Vietnam.
Then saying he had become Muslim, and changing his name, only appeared to make it look like a convenient excuse, to hide behind his religion !
But I was always a Fan of his Boxing !
Even listening to one of his Fights broadcast on AM radio, back in the day !
Then listening to Muhammad Ali express his knowledge of Islam, I gained great respect for him, as it became clear, he was not hiding, but really embraced it, and was very knowledgeable !
And here was a Man, likely knowing full well the dangers of the Sport, still chose to continue, essentially sacrificing himself, not only for the money, but to entertain, wherever, or whatever he was doing !
Too, if a measure of a Man's Family means anything, then I believe his traditions were carried on, as it seemed none of his Children fell far from the tree !
R.I.P.
MUHAMMAD ALI
ASSALAMUALAIKUM
Respect for both, 🎉🎉🎉
Mohammad Ali ist the greatest Boxer all Time. ❤
🇧🇷 Ele não merecia metade da fama que conquistou , era muito despreparado fisicamente , só lutou contra adversários bem mais fracos que ele e as lutas dele eram muito sem graça.
Muhammad Ali wasn’t close to being the Greatest of All Time!!! Ali ended up Severely Punch Drunk!!! Ali had Severe Brain Damage how is that if he was supposedly the Greatest of All Time!!!
Marciano....never beaten....Ahead of Ali. Ali is called the greatest because of emotion....not fact.
Who is in your opinion?
Dia mengalahkan Foreman dan petinju tangguh lainnya
Ali greatest of all time
If Chuck can do this to Ali imagine what '88 Tyson would have done
Ali still would’ve won, Ali once said in an interview “I would take him to distance and beat him.” Considering how Ali took punches from Foreman and Shavers who both hit harder than Tyson, Ali would’ve won. 🙌🦅🇵🇸
@@fizzle2323 Foreman? Let's not forget a simple rope-a-dope outwitted Foreman. Mike was a way more intelligent fighter than Foreman and would have defeated Ali no doubt
Ask tyson. He knows against Ali he had no chance
@@AH-hz5xcLol Tyson lost to Buster Douglas in prime who was bum.No way he could won against Ali.
@@thegodfather1924 Douglas got a 14 second count.
I heard Sylvester Stallone say, The Fight of The Century Ali vs Frazier was the inspiration for the first Rocky movie. Frazier boxing out of Philadelphia beating the loud mouth world champion. But to me it doesn't matter! I watched this fight in 75! I remember Webner hitting Ali on the back of his head countless times which is a foul, but the referee never gave Wepner a single warning.
Only real champions can't go 15 rounds
Ali is Ali.. May his soul rest in peace !
Prime Iron Mike would have walked straight through Prime Ali. That other guy would have been a first round KO for prime Mike.
😂 And what do you base that ridiculous statement on? Tyson beat chumps and every time he fought a good fighter he lost.. every time(and even one time lost to a chump)
Tyson is the most overrated boxer of all time.
@@guaporeturns9472 Ask Michael Spinks if he’s a chump. Larry Holmes was out of the game for a couple years when Mike obliterated him. Mike was in prison for six years. Then came the string you’re talking about. The “prime” part of my statement is important.
@@alanratay4583 I knew you would mention them. Spinks and Holmes were has beens at their best. Got anyone else?
@@guaporeturns9472 Best I got is he held all three belts at the same time. The field wasn’t stacked with great fighters.
@@alanratay4583 Right , that doesn’t make him a great fighter , it means he had weak competition
The Great Muhammad Ali!
Not so great!
@@rogerengblom5061 And your reasoning is?
Wepner never goes down everytime, but went down 4 times
Watched it in Madison Square Garden on a big screen they lowered after the in person Norton/Quarry fight . I saw Wepner step on Ali's foot and yelled it out as all the Wepner fans were celebrating . They weren't happy with me .
He did clearly step on Ali's foot as Ali is backing up. The body blow hits Ali while Ali was already falling.
@@jogman262 Yeah . I had people giving me a problem But , the next day one of the news stations showed a photo from a Cleveland ( I believe ) paper Clearly showing Wepner's foot on top of Ali's as Ali went down .
Rocky and apolo creed
Vow,what a fantastic fight !
People don’t know Muhammad Ali was really Cashus Clay a draft dodger.
3 años en la cárcel !!! Y aun tuvo tiempo para ser el mejor de todos los tiempos ,el mejor aunque te duela
You mean he refused to lend his name to a costly and ultimately pointless war?
WOW awesome video :)
Yes, Wepner landed repeated blows to the back Ali's head.
@@donbeadling5426 and plenty of kidney punches
Ali would hit then pull down his opponents he'd it all his fights and the ref wouldn't even warn him. He ran the whole fight. Wepner was 2 open.
Wepner got hit with everything but the kitchen sink. Have to admire that he stayed up as long as he did
Take a look at the speed of Ali in the 15.round unbelievable.
Wepner was a dirty fighter
Mohammed was the most dirtiest fighter ever....racist.
There was only one fighter at this level who never went down but he was never a world champion. The Canadian George Chuvalo fought everybody in the top spots and stayed upright.
Ali still at his supreme best 😁
The giant of boxing world alwaysssssss sir Muhammad Ali the greatest of all time.whenever the name comes boxing.Muhammad Ali sir's name comes first alwayssssss
Marciano was better....never beaten.....He is often listed behind Ali because he is White and does not fit todays....DEI....Diversity Equity Inclusion. Also....Marciano refused to participte in the Trash Talking Ali did. Norton and Fraisier silenced Ali with a broken Jaw....Marciano never had to be silenced.
