You bet. A guitar amps won't have as much volume or low end as a PA system but it would work. Judy be careful yo not blow the speaker. A trigger has to be pretty loud to compete with drums and guitar, but I have used an amp before. Thanks for watching.
Got one of these and really like it however it looks like i doesn't have a metronome as a function. I am kinda shocked that it doesn't because it would be a great practice tool. Am I missing something?
Hey, very helpful video!! I am what they call computer illiterate. How can I get the sd card with Fear Factory bass drum sound? Do I order a preloaded sad card or is there a place to download it from? Thanks
I just got the TM-2 Module and using it on a two bass drum setup with a RT-30 Kick trigger on each bass drum. I got all the settings dialed in perfect and tested out the triggers and they worked perfect. Then I turned off the module and went away for a while. Came back and the the trigger on my right foot bass drum basically turned into a snare trigger while my left bass drum is still going off as a kick trigger. I am confused on how this happened and what to do?
hmm. I have never had that happen. Do you have the AA batteries installed in the unit? I have the double A's in mine and use the power cable while I play. I think that might make a difference for keeping the settings in it.
2 inputs as no two triggers are the same. you can also raise the retrig a bit with 2 separate triggers and eliminate double triggers better. rt-30 or pad. I forget. I don't think it made all that much difference to be honest. Threshold was the biggest difference maker on the ekits.
My sensitivity is at 22 the right pedal since I am using double bass access pedals right pedal works fine hits the notes perfectly the left pedal does give about a double trigger however I haven't tried it since I added a little bit more muscle lean and tie end up the the head of it so I'll get back to you on that. And no I don't rest my foot on the pedal I hear it more so when I am I hitting double pedals. And thank you for replying to this question as well because I barely saw it on my feed so I appreciate it and I apologize for the very long replies. Do you have a patreon page that I can support are somehow contribute because you are the first person who has actually replied to my questions about triggering and drumming so to me I find this very helpful?
Hey Mate , thx for all that informations. Got a question ?! Im using Bass and Snare Trigger they're working good so far but I don't want to have am Rim Sound on my Snare ... Can I delete it in the settings ? couldn't find something in the manual or im not smart enough XD best regards
Just set the rim sound to nothing, or set the rim sound to the same sample as the snare. You could also adjust the individual settings or use a mono cable. lots of options.
HI! Thanks for the info. i have a problem with bass drum rt30k trigger. hope you can help. Basically it switches between 2 sounds when i play it, not sure how to fix. i think when i hit louder it gets 1 sound and when i play it quieter it gets other sound . would love your help please.
You have 2 different sounds setup for each input? each one is stereo so that allows for 4 triggers total. I bet the second set of the stereo input is set to a different sound. You may have a stereo cable too.... easiest thing, if you are just triggering the kick, is to change both sounds on input 1, or both on input 2 to the exact same settings and you should be good to go.. I used to have a cowbell sound happen while I played lol
@@beyondbetrayal Thanks. I have pd8 Roland pad that I use for rim/ head =2 sounds and my rt30k trigger for bass. The bass dr had some cowbell while I played. The cords are good from Roland.
@@saeedkobiakov8351 haha sounds like me when I had the cowbell going too. so you understand the 2 sounds then, basically on the kick trigger change both sounds to the same. somehow it's triggering both L/R channels at the same time.
I’ve been having a problem when playing double strokes at high tempos the kick doesn’t trigger a hit when I hit the snare hard. What can I do to fix this? I’m using the tm2 and the rt30k trigger.
the kick doesn't trigger when you hit the snare? that is odd. most of the time you get a double trigger. are you using a snare trigger? if so it could be the crosstalk setting too high.
Quick question, I use a TM-2 and I have just changed from using Axis E-Kits to Footblaster triggers... On the pad/head set up menu, what setting should it be on for these types of triggers? Cheers for your help.
No idea. I'd just use the same one and tweak the settings to where they work well. Choosing the "trigger type" is more just a template or starting point and you still need to tweak it. I'd just adjust the gain/sensitivity, threshold, and other settings to where it works well
Hey man, I know this is an old post but kinda tearing our hair out so any help would be appreciated! I have the tm2 and rt30k trigger and kick drum skin is nice and tight but snare hits are triggering the kick drum, if the threshold is raised it eliminates the loud snare hits but then isn't picking up the kicks....struggling to find a sweet spot Tried putting the trigger on the side of the drum but then it wasn't registering the kicks no matter the threshold, just wondered if you had any tips to elimate the loud snare hits without triggering the bass drum?? Thanks!
Make sure the kick drum has blankets etc to stop extra vibrations. Make sure the snare isn't right over the trigger, even slightly offest, .like 1 or 2 oclock might help you. if you put it on the side one pedal will get picked up more..... Make sure you are hitting the kick drum hard enough you don't need to crank the sensitivity to a million. It is a bit of a balancing act, If the snare is setting it off you need to either stop those viberations from setting off the trigger, (moving trigger, stuffing drum with blankets, tighten head etc.) lower sensitivity, or increase threshold.... I find sometimes going to far on one (threshold/sensitivity) effects the other too... You should have to crank both or its counter intuitive. If the sensitivity is too high, things are going to register past the threshold level... so I set sensitivity first, then slowly increase threshold if needed.
@beyondbetrayal this is awesome, appreciate you taking the time to write this, super helpful! I'll give it all a try and see what we can make happen, thanks!
You said: "I have a Pearl MCX with all Sabian Cymbals" . Does this mean that the bass drum tone you use is not available in the original sounds of the module? Did you insert? Because I play Death Metal and your bass drum would be perfect for me.
The trigger samples I use are not stock. You can look around for bass drum samples all over the internet, format them correctly (this is important) and put them on an SD card. You kick drum will sound like whatever you want. The type of drums or cymbals I play doesn't have anything to do with it.
Got any tips for velocity issues? I'm a rather hard hitting/kicker, and Everytime I'm doing double bass (2 bass drums) my left trigger will produce a snare pang (like Saint Anger🤮) whenever it maxes out the velocity from me hitting too hard, whereas if I hit just as hard as with right it won't max out the velocity, and will produce a kick sample. The left produces kick sample sounds, but if I hit to hard it'll throw in that snare pang to throw me off🙄 Any help would be much appreciated! 🙏🤘
If you are not getting double triggers it could be the cable or the fact that you have a snare sample on the second channel (each trigger has a Right and Left channel.. set both to the same kick sample.. I used to have a cowbell when I played mine and when i set them both to kick it fixed it... option 2, lower sensitivity if you don't need it.
Awesome video,it is a huge help! Love the heal toes you got goin on,pretty badass ! I have the same A21 as you do and love it! been looking for a better trigger sound though. Is there a place i can get that wave file,or at all possible you would please share it.....your kick sound is great, and im trying like hell to find a wav like yours lol...any help would be greatly appreciated...thanx dude
I'm not even sure what I used here. If you look around online there are tons of kick sample packs. Give me a few days and i'll see if I can make a new video and post a link of where I have it if I can dig it up. Either that or I should start a patron account and start charging for my samples I make haha.
Thank you for the reply. Ill figure something out eventually.....thanx again
I find that my tm2 is not very loud even when i jack up the gain on the mixer. Do i have to pan everything to the left output if thats the only cable going out of the module?
Hey brother, you helped me out graciously about a year ago, thanks so much for that. Things have been going fine, but now that I’m pushing 260-280 on my hands, I notice my feet aren’t keeping up with heel toe, as well. Coincidentally, I had to get new shoes, and I think they have me ALL FUCKED UP down there. 1. Should I invest in a dif pair of shoes or just maybe start going in my socks? (These shoes have thick soles and def aren’t flat footed type design), or is it I need to tweak my settings? Currently running: sens 25, thresh 15-16, retrig cancel 2. Thanks for any help!
I can't heel toe at all in shoes, but I learnt it in socks. I can do slide doubles much better in shoes. Different shoes change the feel 100%. The nice thing about socks is it is consistent, I actualy ripped for a while bare foot and didn't mind it either. I do have more power wearing shoes though. Do what feels right for you. I find in socks I have to dial my spring tension back and tune the batter head tighter. I get the rebound from the head more that way and don't have to work as hard for it without the added weight of the shoes.
beyondbetrayal ..PLEASE TELL ME SIR..."which drum module do you think is better..Roland or the Alesis dm5"??.cause I notice you have 2 separate videos on them..thanks for your time
thank you for the tutorial was very helpful, my question is if a 75 tuning on the bass drum is too loose to pick up the trigger? i recently changed the head and i am getting a double trigger on the left pedal thought it might be my head any comments. ?
It should be fine, If it is too loose add another pillow/blanket inside. Is the pedal bouncing back and tapping the drum? are you resting the beater? is it too sensitive? there are multiple things that can cause a double trigger
@@beyondbetrayal I apologize for the bad grammar it is because I am using voice text. @@plumasoscuras687 Sounds good. Good luck. I used to get doubles if i rested my left pedal. There are 2 types. one where the beater actually hits the head twice, one would be a sensitivity, threshold, muffling issue.
How do you asign a seprate sound to the rim option on the tm2. I have a splitter cable but cant work out how to change the rim sound to another. Thanks
It's in the TM-2 manual. You have to change the head and rim samples separately. . You can change the sensitivity, threshold, sample, etc of each one individually.
I just bought the Roland tm 2, and I have ddrum acoustic pro triggers, I got a y cable made for the same, but both the triggers signal out the same sound instead of different sounds, please help with this.
it looks like there's only 2 trigger inputs, how would you trigger your entire kit with the TM-2, and also use it in unison with overhead microphones to record?
I use 4 1/4 cables that splice into 2 cables, then the 2 go into both inputs on the tm-2 (one each for my toms, and 2 for my double bass,, u can program 4 drums into the 2 inputs, then the out goes into my behringer ucm, which has 8 inputs 3 of which are my snare mic and 2 overheads, then all that goes into my PC for full kit recording

Hi, I noticed that on my tm-2 the trigger selection is missing the rt-30 series triggers and only has rt-10 series. Is there an update or something that I'm missing possibly?
Just a tiny little Behringer. Basically, II run the TM-2 in mono. So one of the outputs goes to the front of house. The other to the mixer. I run my headphones from the mixer. That way I can adjust my ear volume without messing up the sound at the front of house because the knob controls both. Also you can get a monitor mix into the mixer and have independent control over the kick and the IEM mix. With the XLR input I could run an overhead or something If I wanted also but it's mostly just to adjust the kick volume.
@@beyondbetrayal I suppose it begs the question if you use them now with your AL-2's or if you use the ddrums. I saw you also pulled the trigger on getting that ACD driveshaft, I have definitely considered this because there is a bit of play in the UDS I got secondhand with my axis pedals but the cost of getting from Austria is a deterrent. ALSO I happy your vids are available again, I had looked for the a couple weeks ago and your channel was empty.
@@1234LED Oh ya, it was very temporary. I need to make a few new videos soon. Right now I'm using my Roland trigger. I had to make some adjustments to the axis triggers but I haven't had time to fully set them up. I may do that this week. I changed the placement and added a metal washer to the sides to prevent any slipping. the ACD shaft is rock solid and amazing. The shipping/cost to come to Canada was crazy but I had my UDS mess up at a show and ruin my day so I was pretty bitter and went for it. I had to switch my master/slave pedals as the keyed rod that the shaft connects to didn't line up nice. That's probibly why axis went with a round shaft. I'm going to tune up my kit and re-setup my pedals this week an think of a good video concept.
Can somebody please help me out here. I too have ddrum triggers and I have a y cable connection for the tm 2 to trigger both of them, but I can't seem to get different sounds from both triggers. Both sound the same. Please help me assign sounds to individual triggers in padx2 setting
Did you watch the video? I explain this in there near the end.. I am, I just have to adjust a few things on the left pedal to get it perfect. Might have been my fault but I'm going to change the plastic washer that comes with it for a metal one.
If you have the RT-30K, AND you have it set to Head and RIM, AND you are using a stereo cable, it will use the rim sensor to stop triggers from other drums. I have actually never used it, but it is a good way to maybe lower your threshold a touch and still avoid double triggers. Same as the other settings, too high and you will start to miss your quieter hits.
beyondbetrayal ah ok thanks, that's what I thought. My problem I've noticed is that when I play the snare really loud, it will miss one of my hits. So what I think is happening is the. Lose cancel activates because the snare hit is loud, and it then cuts out the trigger hit I did at the same time. I'm going to turn it off and raise my threshold. Thanks as always
Ya, that is weird. Is your snare triggered? That could be possible, or you may just not be hearing the trigger? I don't use that setting and have never experienced that. Let me know what you find out
beyondbetrayal ok that was the problem. With noise cancel and a nice amount of muffling, I was able to set the threshold super low, all the way to 1, and the snare wouldn't trip the trigger. However, when playing heel toe stuff, it would cancel a couple hits when I hit the snare. I think playing the noise "trips" the noise cancel, and tm-2 just cancels whatever is happening at the time, that's my guess. So I turned it off, and set a real threshold and everything is good now. Tl;dr don't use the noise cancel features when playing heel toe, I think it's finicky and can even cancel out some hits when you hit the snare.
Awesome... Each setting effects each other too but work slightly different. I could see maybe using a SLIGHT bit of noise cancel if your snare is actually setting it off, but sensitivity and threshold seem to curb that usually. Thanks for the update.
It depends i guess. For ease, Id use one trigger in each port, unless you have a way to split them into 1 plug. (TM-2 can support 2 stereo cables). So with one left and one right you should be good. do you want to trigger both sounds at the same time? or 2 different spots. If it's two spots it will be tricky and you will really have to play with sensitivity and threshold. It's the same rules. low sensitivity and high threshold to prevent false triggers.
I'm an experienced sound man, but incorporating the tm-2 for a consistent attack on the kick, This helped a bunch. thank you

Amazing Video, thanks for sharing!! I just want to ask you, if Is there a chance to use the trigger module with a guitar amplifier? Thank You.
You bet. A guitar amps won't have as much volume or low end as a PA system but it would work. Judy be careful yo not blow the speaker. A trigger has to be pretty loud to compete with drums and guitar, but I have used an amp before. Thanks for watching.
@@beyondbetrayal Thank you brother, I have to save for a monitor, better, I guess. Thank you, and you are an amazing drummer!!
@@carloszepeda9132 Appreciate it. A monitor is your best bet but the amp will make due.
Favorite stock sample on the tm-2 for kick if you didn't have a sample?
@grantcoffman2698 tough to say it's been so long. There are plenty of kick samples to download all over online though
Got one of these and really like it however it looks like i doesn't have a metronome as a function. I am kinda shocked that it doesn't because it would be a great practice tool.
Am I missing something?
Fully agree. A firmware update could fix that easy too. Even a basic one. Don't see it happening though
@@beyondbetrayal Should we cancel Roland? (just kidding!)
Do you trigger your whole kit if so do you use different module for the toms.
Hey, very helpful video!! I am what they call computer illiterate. How can I get the sd card with Fear Factory bass drum sound? Do I order a preloaded sad card or is there a place to download it from? Thanks
Great vid. Thanks for
Great Video ! Do you think these settings are goods for Roland TD50 module too ? :)
I'd imagine they are close. Jealous of your module haha.
Will it work on e-kit Roland TD-1dmk?
Very good video! It helped me a lot, amazing sound. Is it possible to get the sound bank fear16.wav? sounds really good!
Hello, I'm from Indonesia, can Roland TM 2 be controlled via Korg Pa600 keyboard arranger? with MIDI connection? thank you
I just got the TM-2 Module and using it on a two bass drum setup with a RT-30 Kick trigger on each bass drum.
What trigger setting would you use for Ekits? RT-30? And are you using each kick input separately or combining them into one input?
2 inputs as no two triggers are the same. you can also raise the retrig a bit with 2 separate triggers and eliminate double triggers better. rt-30 or pad. I forget. I don't think it made all that much difference to be honest. Threshold was the biggest difference maker on the ekits.
beyondbetrayal Thank you for replying. Your videos are eye openers!
Any time man. Thanks for watching :)
beyondbetrayal One more question if you don’t mind. What Fear Factory album kick sample is your sample modeled after?
To be honest I have no idea. One of my guitar players did it. They are the guys that record our CD's
What is your batter head of your bass drum??
I don't but I might make one soon. I have been practicing for the last few years like a mofo and have a bunch of good lesson ideas now.
Good explenation, thanks!
Hey Mate , thx for all that informations. Got a question ?! Im using Bass and Snare Trigger they're working good so far but I don't want to have am Rim Sound on my Snare ... Can I delete it in the settings ? couldn't find something in the manual or im not smart enough XD
best regards
Just set the rim sound to nothing, or set the rim sound to the same sample as the snare. You could also adjust the individual settings or use a mono cable. lots of options.
Hi, i do not see the rt30k, only the rt10k in my tm2... Whats the problem? Greetings from Chile.
You might need to update your firmware.

Could you share you kick sample Fear16 ? :-) Thx
Can I use the mt-2 with pedals that are used to play electronic drums so I can play my guitar and use my legs to plays sounds ? Thank you
Yes you can use the KD10

Happy to help!

I’m only triggering my kick. somehow the problem stopped by itself but thanks for replying
@@Zielb Awesome news bro. have a good weekend
I'd just adjust the gain/sensitivity, threshold, and other settings to where it works well
I want to buy a tm 2, they are out of stock everywhere
Hey man, I know this is an old post but kinda tearing our hair out so any help would be appreciated!
I have the tm2 and rt30k trigger and kick drum skin is nice and tight but snare hits are triggering the kick drum, if the threshold is raised it eliminates the loud snare hits but then isn't picking up the kicks....struggling to find a sweet spot
Tried putting the trigger on the side of the drum but then it wasn't registering the kicks no matter the threshold, just wondered if you had any tips to elimate the loud snare hits without triggering the bass drum??
You
should have to crank both or its counter intuitive.
@@beyondbetrayal OK friend. I will do this and thank you very much for having answered and helped me. Cheers
@@MutilatorOfficial You too have a good day. google bass drum sample pack, or trigger samples. there are tons out there.
What drumset do you use? It sounds amazing
I have a Pearl MCX with all Sabian Cymbals.
The left produces kick sample sounds, but if I hit to hard it'll throw in that snare pang to throw me off🙄
Any help would be much appreciated!

Its not the loudest interface. You ca pan or leave stereo. I didnt try a full pan.
It was the shoes hehe

It should be fine, If it is too loose add another pillow/blanket inside. Is the pedal bouncing back and tapping the drum? are you resting the beater? is it too sensitive? there are multiple things that can cause a double trigger

Do you use the “noise” setting at all?
No i don't use that. retrig cancel for time between hits, sensitivity/gain and threshold are the main ones
I just bought the Roland tm 2, and I have ddrum acoustic pro triggers, I got a y cable made for the same, but both the triggers signal out the same sound instead of different sounds, please help with this.
You need to change the rim sample for the second input.. one is the main, the other is the rim when you are using a splitter.
Have you had any issues with the TM 2 freezing? I'd say mine only turns on completely half the time, or it gets stuck on the powering up screen.
Never seen that. You should try and remove the memory card and see if it still does it.
I had that happening with mine. It was a RAM issue and needed replaced. It was under warranty and didn't cost anything.
it looks like there's only 2 trigger inputs, how would you trigger your entire kit with the TM-2, and also use it in unison with overhead microphones to record?
I use 4 1/4 cables that splice into 2 cables, then the 2 go into both inputs on the tm-2 (one each for my toms, and 2 for my double bass,, u can program 4 drums into the 2 inputs, then the out goes into my behringer ucm, which has 8 inputs 3 of which are my snare mic and 2 overheads, then all that goes into my PC for full kit recording
@@dckaelin so your behringer is like your interface? since i have a roland spd, i dont really need another module...so wouldnt it be better to have an 8-track interface instead, and use that with a drum plugin?

Can you trigger different sounds via midi with external gear?
Yes. You can trigger an edrum set with a piano. You can trigger sounds on a computer with pads etc.
great info. thanks dude!

what type of second mixer you are using?
Just a tiny little Behringer. Basically, II run the TM-2 in mono. So one of the outputs goes to the front of house. The other to the mixer. I run my headphones from the mixer. That way I can adjust my ear volume without messing up the sound at the front of house because the knob controls both. Also you can get a monitor mix into the mixer and have independent control over the kick and the IEM mix. With the XLR input I could run an overhead or something If I wanted also but it's mostly just to adjust the kick volume.
Is there a particular reason why you are not using the E-kits at this time?
I made this video long before I had them.
I'm going to tune up my kit and re-setup my pedals this week an think of a good video concept.

what a cable do you use?
The patch cable the came with my Roland trigger, then just any old patch cable to the P.A.
Oooh yhuurr 😁😎
:) I can't steal that from Samus hahah.
Does your tm-2 not have a "noise cancel" option? Mine does and I don't really get what it does haha.
Captain America plays drum
hi, I need to use the TM2 on the cajon and then use 2 piezos on the same surface, which setting should I use to get 2 separate sounds if possible?
It depends i guess. For ease, Id use one trigger in each port, unless you have a way to split them into 1 plug. (TM-2 can support 2 stereo cables). So with one left and one right you should be good. do you want to trigger both sounds at the same time? or 2 different spots. If it's two spots it will be tricky and you will really have to play with sensitivity and threshold. It's the same rules. low sensitivity and high threshold to prevent false triggers.
how did you connect your module to your mixer?
Just a regular 1/4 inch cable
