Today I had the pleasure of spending an evening with Somali Supermodel Halima Aden. If you haven't heard of her already, I know you will find her story extremely inspiring!
Halima was born in a refugee camp in Kakuma, Kenya, because her family was forced to to flee Somalia due to the civil war in the early 1990s. When she was 7 years old, her family migrated to the USA (Minnesota) where she found herself in a culture shock and couldn't speak English... But that never stopped her from finding her voice!
Fast forward 11 years and not only did she become a semi-finalist at Miss Minnesota USA, but she was the FIRST PERSON in their 65 year history to wear a hijab and burkini on stage. It wasn't intentional, it was just Halima staying true to herself and her beliefs -- but it essentially got the attention of the world and now she has been on the cover of Vogue Magazine, Allure, highlighted in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition among dozens of others. She travels all over the world doing photoshoots, being a UNICEF ambassador and collaborating with brands that she loves. And the craziest part? She is only 22 years old!
The sky is the limit for Halima as she continues to be a leader and role model for people in her community, and I can't wait to see what's next!

And no man i know would date the women in the pic.. maybe a below average black guy. Whilest with halima attractive quality men would line to date/marry her. @@AliMohammed-ez6nt She worked very hard to get very she is today.She had to overcome a lot of challenges because she was a refugee when she moved to the United States.She had to overcome cultural barriers,language barriers among many others.I'm pretty sure she had to face a great deal of discrimination as a black muslim woman.She had to seize and make use of every opportunity she got.So yes,I do think she's VERY inspiring and hardworking.As for the other girl who you said was not pretty,all I have to say is "YOUR HEAD AND YOUR BUSHY BUSHY TAIL.You're just blind."

She is stunning and sweet however not all Muslims wear hijab. I'm sure she already saw Muslim models in magazines but didn't know they were Muslim. The biggest one would be Somali international mega supermodel ubermodel, IMAN, way back in the 1970s. One of the greatest models ever. I even saw Iman in person...absolutely stunning. Yasmeen Ghauri was a supermodel in the 90s and she was Muslim. Nowadays we have Bella Hadid. I also liked that she pointed out that she is 5'5". The chances of being that short as a high fashion model is rare.
Bunny Bun well there are but, as muslim women they are not allowed to wear revealing clothes and i appreciate that halimah is able to stick close to her religion despite being in an industry which basically revolves around wearing revealing clothing
Those are great points. But let's be real, models aren't known for their vast intellectual ability nor research capabilities. People in her world speak based on anecdotal evidence. She's beautiful and she's making a positive change in a world. Let's leave it at that.

@@guide2truth when she wears a turban she usually covers her neck and ears, so that does count as a hijab, and even if it doesn’t, she did so much good, she actually inspired me to wear hijab and thanks to her i started appreciating the hijab and loving it
Halima demonstrated she didnt have to assimilate to Western culture. She could proudly wear a hijab without the backlash many Muslim women have encountered in Western UK and USA. She is inspiring to young Black females as she pursues her dreams successfully.
