When you reach the Heavy at point blank range, each shot is going to deal 90 damage. 90×4=360 damage, enough to kill a Heavy. You can't do that with a normal shotgun because it fires much slower. I even MGE'd (1v1) someone today and won. I had the Panic Attack, they had the shotgun.

This gun is just one big missed opportunity. I don't see how it's viable at all outside of jokes with friends. - It should have been able to store shells for later - It should keep the speed increase at lower health - The spread should get smaller when you take more damage, not bigger - To balance some changes only happen at REEEEEALLY low health
It is like the Beggar's in that neither can store shots. It's worse because a) it's a shotgun and not a rocket launcher and b) you can't do crazy jumps with it like you can with the Beggar's.

Panic Attack is just another MvM weapon. It joins the ranks of Phlog, Natascha, Fan of War and other shitty weapons that nobody actually uses without MvM upgrades.

This isn't a bad wep AT ALL. The shotgun in tf2 is meant to be an up close wep. Do you WANT to do less damage? No! You should use this up close to do more damage. Its for up close attacks. That's what it and the shotgun was made for.
Enjoy getting close enough to a heavy or pyro to take advantage of your fast shots. Also, two of the classes it's for have considerably better point-blank weapons, Engineer doesn't rely on his primary as a damage-dealer (and would use frontier justice if he did), and Soldier uses a shotgun as a quick way to finish off wounded enemies, defeating the purpose of pre-loading shells. So it's complete garbage.
If they were to buff this weapon, you should be able to hold up 6 shells with the cost of slowness in return by holding right click, and firing with left click, and to stop mid-fire by switching weapons.

The unfinished map vibes from this map makes me nostalgic for these days of tf2. It just feels good remembering the good times when it was available to play. Makes me remember the fun times on rd_asteroid too.
It was nice to see a gameplay with the panic attack directly compared to one with the regular shotgun and proofs my guess on the biggest problem with this gun (haven't got the chance to try it out myself, yet): it's basically a secondary weapon meant to be used as a primary since you always have to have it out and reload to shoot. Not like the regular shotgun where you switch to it at shoot right away in case your rocket launcher runs out of ammo or so. And something to the people complaining about how bad star_'s videos get cause he's bored of tf2 or whatever: don't know about you, but at least in this one it somehow seemed like he had some fun playing....

It seems that the developers either do not have enough man power or do not put enough effort into the updates; every major update in recent memory has been either terrible or inane. If the major draw for this game becomes the economy then the joke about how this game is a first person hat wearing simulator will be more true than anyone could possibly imagine.

Sure, there are always perspectives that can be used to say "This update was bad" but to claim they are terrible and inane? Jesus Christ, Valve decides to end the weapon drought this year and finally gave us weapons along with new beta game modes for us to test and send feedback, and now the issue is that the weapons are bad weapons, the maps must have to undergo a beta and must imply that the TF team is lazy, and thus the game is going down a shithole. When you have an old game like TF2 adding shit while making stuff balanced is quite hard to do. The beginning was great because they were adding onto a blank slate. Now, there's too many ideas and it makes sense that we're going to see less and less of them. Also, Steam stats tell a completely different story. TF2 is still one of the more popular games to be played, and showing no signs of dying. I'm sorry, but I'm frustrated at people yelling "dead game" because I've noticed that these very same opinions would have had you murdered by the community prior to End of the Line.
This weapon is actually useful for Engi's who don't turtle their sentries. Also, not every weapon is meant to be practical, or really good to use. Alot of weapons are meant for fun. Weapons like the Panic Attack, Sun on a Stick, Holiday Punch, the Rift Fire Axe, or the Pomson, are all weapons that aren't particularly good, but they're meant to have fun with. Panic attack is one of those weapons, where its not for try harding or comp playing, but just meant to be fun, which is what TF2 is for. Fun.
Im sorry but it seems that there are just too many of these "fun weapons" being introduced and this annoys a lot of people because they are completely useless and don't add anything new into the game.
If you don't want to turtle as an engie, how about you use a Shotgun, or a FJ, or a Widowmaker? Iunno a consistent damageoutput without delay can feels nice sometimes.

You have to take charge because none of the other soldiers or demomen have the brainpower to spam. I think that I'd find the new shotgun way more enjoyable to use if instead of firing all 1-4 shots off rapidly, but combined them all into one huge shot. The more shots you load it with, the more pellets it will fire at once. That and if damage were to increase as your health goes down, and not firing speed. What usually ends up happening to me is that when I get to low health and acquire a target, it fires fast, but I am unaccustomed to the fast shooting rate, and I miss all but one shot. Which does 17 damage.
That would be completely overpowered. You could one-shot a Soldier by loading two shots and being slightly hurt. A secondary weapon should not be able to kill any class instantly. I think the weapon is fine as it is if you get used to it, it just needs a base damage bonus or accuracy bonus.
Shankochu Think about those stats. If a shotgun that's capable of doing 90 damage were to be fired twice at the same time, it would do 180 damage. If the damage increased with lower health like you said, you would only need to be slightly injured to deal 200 damage. Now image 4 shots with even lower health and you could insta-kill an overhealed Heavy.

WAIT! This is a VINTAGE video! The new Panic Attack is actually _really, really good_. It was patched in Gun Mettle (Fire rate increased- 15% to 30%. Reload speed increased- 33% to 50%. Switch to speed increased by 50%) but made awesome in Tough Break, where you can hold the shots for as long as you want, although you can't switch weapons until its empty.
But it's only good for messing around. When I play sollly, I need the stock shotgun to finish off people before they escape or when they are in the air. With the PAs delay, it messes it all up. In short, it's like the phlog. Good for pubs but bad for anyone who know what they are doing.
Maybe the real Panic Attack is the friends we made along the way. I dunno; I felt like this comment would fit in with the rest of the comments section.
Aaand cactuscanyon is still in beta. This level of lazyness is not good. At all. Who made this map? Can you fire him and make someone else step up and finish it already? And as a plus, it's interesting that Ster says in a joking manner "I was gonna retire", then he does actually retire from TF2. Granted, this wasn't his last TF2 video, but it also "it all went downhill from here".
I don't think RD_Asteroid was ever finished, either. I don't think it can be played in Casual mode, so it essentially doesn't exist anymore. What a complete and total waste of time and resources. It's crazy how lazy they can be, and how they take their time doing _anything_. The "bi-monthly" comic series takes an entire year to get a new chapter, The Pyro update that he won hasn't appeared for 6 or so months now, etc. I have to be honest, at this point, they should just drop any and all development or updating on this game unless it's to fix anything game-breaking. Either Valve's employees just sleep at their desks all day for months on end, or they really just don't give a fuck about TF2 anymore. Sometimes I feel like the former is the case.

Egh, I enjoyed the new payload map with its interesting way of finishing the final point (push and hold the bomb in front of the train) more compelling than TF2 with a moba-lite mode, but egh, they were both interesting maps that were unfortunately canned.
Watching this again in 2019. It's funny to see how shit the Panic Attack was on release. I was there when it came out, too. Nowadays it's a really awesome sidegrade to the Shotgun if you get right in the meat, since the first shot can do quite a bit of damage. Though it lost its uniqueness due to that change...

What I think: The low health mechanic, with the larger spread, is meant for times of need, say you have no ammo in your primary, and you have multiple people after you, you could use the low health mechanic, faster reload means no waiting till you have time, no you just shoot multiple dudes at once, hence "panic attack" as you use it in time of panic or when you are having a panic attack because you don't wanna die.
Gonna be the first one here to make a single comment relating to the damn video -_- but I feel like STAR_'s just using it wrong. It's supposed to be a retreat weapon. You're less on health, so you run around the corner, load up, and fill that cheeky pyro who thought he'd finish you off full of lead. That being said, it's still dumb.
fatjack2b Except you can't panic until you've wound up for 4 seconds including the weapon switch itself. There is literally never a situation where you would go "Oh shit I'm gonna die, whip out the Panic Attack and somehow I'm alive!" over simply reloading a rocket or using the shotgun/escape plan/equalizer.
fatjack2b Shotgun is a much better weapon if you were in that very same situation... Also, wouldn't panicking produce more mistakes? Shotgun seems more viable since 6 in the clip and shooting whenever makes you feel more secured. The Panic Attack just needs a buff.
I actually thought upof a use for this weapon. My idea is similar to the shotgun heavy, but uses this, and there's seven heavys (three with panic attack, two with stock, and two with sandviches) essentially, you run around as a heavy squad spamming with this weapon, with two backups to pick off the people who escape, and two heavys with sandviches that drop them for the guys in front of them for when they have less than 50 or so health (also works with medics and GRU's)

When you reach the Heavy at point blank range, each shot is going to deal 90 damage. 90×4=360 damage, enough to kill a Heavy. You can't do that with a normal shotgun because it fires much slower.
I even MGE'd (1v1) someone today and won. I had the Panic Attack, they had the shotgun.

- The spread should get smaller when you take more damage, not bigger

This isn't a bad wep AT ALL. The shotgun in tf2 is meant to be an up close wep. Do you WANT to do less damage? No! You should use this up close to do more damage. Its for up close attacks. That's what it and the shotgun was made for.
Enjoy getting close enough to a heavy or pyro to take advantage of your fast shots. Also, two of the classes it's for have considerably better point-blank weapons, Engineer doesn't rely on his primary as a damage-dealer (and would use frontier justice if he did), and Soldier uses a shotgun as a quick way to finish off wounded enemies, defeating the purpose of pre-loading shells. So it's complete garbage.
If they were to buff this weapon, you should be able to hold up 6 shells with the cost of slowness in return by holding right click, and firing with left click, and to stop mid-fire by switching weapons.

The unfinished map vibes from this map makes me nostalgic for these days of tf2. It just feels good remembering the good times when it was available to play. Makes me remember the fun times on rd_asteroid too.
It was nice to see a gameplay with the panic attack directly compared to one with the regular shotgun and proofs my guess on the biggest problem with this gun (haven't got the chance to try it out myself, yet): it's basically a secondary weapon meant to be used as a primary since you always have to have it out and reload to shoot. Not like the regular shotgun where you switch to it at shoot right away in case your rocket launcher runs out of ammo or so.
And something to the people complaining about how bad star_'s videos get cause he's bored of tf2 or whatever: don't know about you, but at least in this one it somehow seemed like he had some fun playing....

Wow all these people saying that TF2 is going down. I have the feeling that you just retell what star is saying. Ok he is bored of the game and is maybe only able to see the negative aspects. You're completely ignoring the fact that the game has been out for 9 years. It seems that the developers either do not have enough man power or do not put enough effort into the updates; every major update in recent memory has been either terrible or inane. If the major draw for this game becomes the economy then the joke about how this game is a first person hat wearing simulator will be more true than anyone could possibly imagine.
I totally agree with you, You crealy see how valve doesnt put the same effort on tf2 as in other games like dota or cs, We were introduced this beta game mods and maps like asteroid and it was supposed that they would finish them but they are still in beta, without textures.
Sure, there are always perspectives that can be used to say "This update was bad" but to claim they are terrible and inane? Jesus Christ, Valve decides to end the weapon drought this year and finally gave us weapons along with new beta game modes for us to test and send feedback, and now the issue is that the weapons are bad weapons, the maps must have to undergo a beta and must imply that the TF team is lazy, and thus the game is going down a shithole. When you have an old game like TF2 adding shit while making stuff balanced is quite hard to do. The beginning was great because they were adding onto a blank slate. Now, there's too many ideas and it makes sense that we're going to see less and less of them. Also, Steam stats tell a completely different story. TF2 is still one of the more popular games to be played, and showing no signs of dying.

This weapon is actually useful for Engi's who don't turtle their sentries. Also, not every weapon is meant to be practical, or really good to use. Alot of weapons are meant for fun. Weapons like the Panic Attack, Sun on a Stick, Holiday Punch, the Rift Fire Axe, or the Pomson, are all weapons that aren't particularly good, but they're meant to have fun with. Panic attack is one of those weapons, where its not for try harding or comp playing, but just meant to be fun, which is what TF2 is for. Fun.

Im sorry but it seems that there are just too many of these "fun weapons" being introduced and this annoys a lot of people because they are completely useless and don't add anything new into the game.
If you don't want to turtle as an engie, how about you use a Shotgun, or a FJ, or a Widowmaker?

That's what teammates in tf2 are like. You have to take charge because none of the other soldiers or demomen have the brainpower to spam. So if you're playing some sniper or scout you have to switch despite the fact that there are already 3 soldiers on your team all simultaneously doing nothing.

You just don't get it Star! Can't you see all the advantages in having to wait 3 extra seconds to fire 4 shots with a shotgun even though you'd be able to fire all 6 shots with the stock shotgun faster? Clearly you have a lot to learn regarding this game!

Star sounded enjoyable and normal in this video. This isn't like Halloween and smissmas videos, this feels like one of his older videos. I really don't understand the comment section here.
Everything about this video is perfect.
I think that I'd find the new shotgun way more enjoyable to use if instead of firing all 1-4 shots off rapidly, but combined them all into one huge shot. The more shots you load it with, the more pellets it will fire at once.
That and if damage were to increase as your health goes down, and not firing speed.
What usually ends up happening to me is that when I get to low health and acquire a target, it fires fast, but I am unaccustomed to the fast shooting rate, and I miss all but one shot. Which does 17 damage.
That would be completely overpowered. You could one-shot a Soldier by loading two shots and being slightly hurt. A secondary weapon should not be able to kill any class instantly.
I think the weapon is fine as it is if you get used to it, it just needs a base damage bonus or accuracy bonus.

Shankochu Think about those stats. If a shotgun that's capable of doing 90 damage were to be fired twice at the same time, it would do 180 damage. If the damage increased with lower health like you said, you would only need to be slightly injured to deal 200 damage. Now image 4 shots with even lower health and you could insta-kill an overhealed Heavy.

The new Panic Attack is actually _really, really good_. It was patched in Gun Mettle (Fire rate increased- 15% to 30%. Reload speed increased- 33% to 50%. Switch to speed increased by 50%) but made awesome in Tough Break, where you can hold the shots for as long as you want, although you can't switch weapons until its empty.
But it's only good for messing around. When I play sollly, I need the stock shotgun to finish off people before they escape or when they are in the air. With the PAs delay, it messes it all up. In short, it's like the phlog. Good for pubs but bad for anyone who know what they are doing.

I find it good against enemy Pyroes since you can get meatshots very quickly, but it's personal preference.

I don't think RD_Asteroid was ever finished, either. I don't think it can be played in Casual mode, so it essentially doesn't exist anymore. What a complete and total waste of time and resources.
It's crazy how lazy they can be, and how they take their time doing _anything_. The "bi-monthly" comic series takes an entire year to get a new chapter, The Pyro update that he won hasn't appeared for 6 or so months now, etc. I have to be honest, at this point, they should just drop any and all development or updating on this game unless it's to fix anything game-breaking. Either Valve's employees just sleep at their desks all day for months on end, or they really just don't give a fuck about TF2 anymore. Sometimes I feel like the former is the case.

The RD asteroid thing is just sad, I think I actually did a sad face for that. I had a lot of fun in that map, despite playing on it just a few times, and now all of that gone, because of Valzy.
Egh, I enjoyed the new payload map with its interesting way of finishing the final point (push and hold the bomb in front of the train) more compelling than TF2 with a moba-lite mode, but egh, they were both interesting maps that were unfortunately canned.
Watching this again in 2019. It's funny to see how shit the Panic Attack was on release. I was there when it came out, too. Nowadays it's a really awesome sidegrade to the Shotgun if you get right in the meat, since the first shot can do quite a bit of damage. Though it lost its uniqueness due to that change...
It's just a boring stat swapped shotgun, it lost its fun gimmick

What I think:
The low health mechanic, with the larger spread, is meant for times of need, say you have no ammo in your primary, and you have multiple people after you, you could use the low health mechanic, faster reload means no waiting till you have time, no you just shoot multiple dudes at once, hence "panic attack" as you use it in time of panic or when you are having a panic attack because you don't wanna die.

Gonna be the first one here to make a single comment relating to the damn video -_- but I feel like STAR_'s just using it wrong. It's supposed to be a retreat weapon. You're less on health, so you run around the corner, load up, and fill that cheeky pyro who thought he'd finish you off full of lead. That being said, it's still dumb.
Exactly, the use is in the name. You're supposed to use it when you panic.

There is literally never a situation where you would go "Oh shit I'm gonna die, whip out the Panic Attack and somehow I'm alive!" over simply reloading a rocket or using the shotgun/escape plan/equalizer.
fatjack2b Shotgun is a much better weapon if you were in that very same situation... Also, wouldn't panicking produce more mistakes? Shotgun seems more viable since 6 in the clip and shooting whenever makes you feel more secured. The Panic Attack just needs a buff.
I actually thought upof a use for this weapon. My idea is similar to the shotgun heavy, but uses this, and there's seven heavys (three with panic attack, two with stock, and two with sandviches) essentially, you run around as a heavy squad spamming with this weapon, with two backups to pick off the people who escape, and two heavys with sandviches that drop them for the guys in front of them for when they have less than 50 or so health (also works with medics and GRU's)
