    The best sounds in aviation: 1) the roar of the engines when taking off 2) the roar when the thrust reversers are applied upon landing

    Join me on Southwest Airlines flight 867, Southwest's inaugural service from Tulsa, Oklahoma (TUL) to Austin, Texas (AUS). Austin, the capital of Texas and self proclaimed "Live Music Capital of the World," has become one of the hottest destinations in the country. Yesterday, Southwest added to those routes by starting year round, nonstop service to/from Tulsa, Oklahoma! As many of you know, Tulsa is one of that airports I consider to be a "home" airport. In 2021, I flew out of Tulsa more than any other airport. It was my most visited airport, even when you add in connections at larger airports. So, I'm always happy to see Tulsa getting more service to new cities! Southwest is not alone on this route though. Southwest Airlines has a long history in Tulsa. Many don't know this, but Tulsa was one of Southwest's first destinations, and was the second city they served outside of Texas. Southwest has been operating at TUL for 42 years. It's truly great to see them continuing to build even better service at Tulsa! They have competition from Allegiant Air and American Eagle! This should be great for the consumer, as the added competition should keep fares low! Included in this video is a detailed look at Southwest's product, the entire flight from TUL-AUS, and all of the pre-flight festivities and celebrations. I have to hand it to Southwest Airlines and the staff from Tulsa International Airport. They both sure know how to throw a gate party! Flights like these are always fun! Enjoy the festivities and the flight!

    Love the classic "southwest takeoff", with the quick taxi and spooling up before they're even lined up on the runway.
    That's what Southwest does!

    With Southwest’s presence at both airports, I kinda thought this route already existed 😂. As always they sure know how to celebrate inaugural flights. Cool video!

      Thanks my friend! The route did already exist, only on American and Allegiant. Southwest is actually the third carrier to operate this route.

    I left tulsa on this day towards Denver and eventually Seattle. My flight left around 11pm, so when I saw the balloons, it was weird to think they celebrated Austin so much. Really cool to see a video on what really happened that day.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually live in Kansas, near the southeast corner of the state. Near Joplin, Missouri. Joplin does have commercial air service and it is my true home airport, Tulsa is my second option, even though it is the same distance away as Bentonville, because it’s a lot easier to get to. XNA it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere, and you have to take all kinds of back roads to get to it.

    • @jackscartoonchannel758

    Knowing Southwest, I’m surprised they didn’t use Lone Star One for this inaugural flight 😉 Looked like a lot of fun there in the pre-flight festivities! Great trip report!

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is 100% speculation on my part, as I've not confirmed it with anyone at Southwest, but I believe it was their intention to use Lone Star One for this flight. But I think their operational meltdown the day before nixed that... Here's why I think that. First, there's no Oklahoma One, so Lone Star One was the obvious choice. Second, the day before the flight, I was watching FlightRadar and it appeared they were sending Lone Star One into a position where they could use it for this flight. The flight from TUL-AUS is flight 867. A flight that actually has 6 segments. ECP-BNA-STL-TUL-AUS-CHS-BWI. A flight that would typically use the same aircraft for the entire 6 segments. Well, on the night before. Lone Star One was scheduled to fly MDW-BNA the next morning, where it then didn't have any further flights listed. Flight 867 on the other hand was going to be operated by some random 737, but only from ECP-BNA. From BNA-on, it didn't have an aircraft scheduled. It's my opinion that they planned to put Lone Star One on flight 867 from BNA-on. Well, Southwest's operational meltdown caused the flight from ECP-BNA to be cancelled. No big deal though... Lone Star One was already heading to BNA. Just put it on 867 from there. At this point, it still didn't have any other flights scheduled past BNA. But then, 867 from BNA-STL cancelled, and Lone Star One was already heading for BNA. So, they then pulled a spare at STL and used it for the flight. Again, this is all speculative, but 867 didn't have an aircraft assigned to the route until after the BNA-STL leg had cancelled. Which happened while Lone Star One was enroute to BNA... It could all be coincidence, but I doubt it. I'm pretty sure they were routing Lone Star One into position for this flight and it just didn't work out.

    • @kg.aviation
      @kg.aviation 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sla31 Yep, sounds about right. It definitely seemed that they were trying to put Lone Star One on that flight, but then everything went to crap. Trust me, my flights to Orlando this weekend were in jeopardy. Such a bummer though, because that would've been awesome and I know Southwest likes to do that for any inaugural flights or events!
      So, I actually took my New Orleans to Orlando trip this past weekend and almost got lucky with both Freedom One and a MAX. First, the aircraft I flew on from MSY-MCO on Friday was N8566Z which flew MCO-MSY the night before and RON'ed in MSY that night. Well, it flew DEN-MCO before that flight and departed MCO at 4:45 PM - the same exact time Freedom One departed Denver for Atlanta. The day before, the aircraft for DEN-MCO had been swapped from the ATL flight, so I thought that might happen again and I'd get super lucky, but unfortunately no. Freedom One flew to ATL as scheduled and I got N8566Z. Then, with all the weather issues and mess in Orlando Thursday night, another MCO-MSY flight that got delayed for 6 hours also RON'ed in MSY that night. That aircraft was N8810L, one of Southwest's newest MAX 8's. Well, I thought that aircraft might get swapped for mine since N8566Z arrived into MSY very late Friday morning before my early 5:00 AM departure. Well, no, N8810L ended up getting swapped Friday morning to the other 5:00 AM departure from MSY-STL instead of my 5:00 AM departure to MCO. Yeah it was a bummer and I still haven't flown on a MAX yet. Always some Southwest shenanigans 🙃

    Hey Skylite, I was wondering if you could do a video flying from a city without snow to a city with snow like Denver. It’s cool to see the ground as it slowly turns white.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I'd love to do that. The problem is that I book my flights months in advance. Which means I kind of just have to get lucky. Of course I can always book a ticket somewhere that it snows a lot, but that doesn't guarantee it's going to be a clear day when I actually fly there. So, that's definitely something I'd like to to, but will the weather cooperate when I do it? That's the question.

    • @owenchabot
