I respect the merc's interior in terms of good looking, I respect BMW's interior in terms of Better quality, What I know is that we all want to pay more because of "Lasting" which is true. As a BMW fanboy before it was hard for me to choose between two brands until I noticed that BMW is the Best in its Quality and also engines, Merc has just good looking interior and expansive, so it is up to you whether you pay for quality 💪🏽 or good looking ❤️ . I love my 2020 GLS, so glad I got it over the X7.

As a Mercedes GL owner I have to say that the BMW looks sporty and the Mercedes looks more luxury from the outside

The bmw doesn’t even have massage or ventilated seats in the back

Gents, I think you have your width comparo’ slightly wrong.. you compared the “with mirror” width of the GLS to the “without mirror” width of the X7.. The X7 is actually wider on both measurements by almost 2 inches.
78.7” (x7) vs 77.0” (gls) -w/o mirrors.
87.3” (x7) vs 84.9” (gls) -with mirrors.
Overall - BMW is about 2 inches shorter, but 2 inch wider (approx) ..
You don't compare, you promote bmw x7, you're cheating now
Being a GL owner.... X7 design is definitely sharp

GLS is better interior wise though I think x7 has better exterior though I like the 580 exterior front wide better that x7 m sport package model
I'll take the Mercedes because I'm a Mercedes loyalist but there are 2 things to admit.
1 - the BMW definitely has a more solidly built interior with better materials. Mercedes has been slacking in that department over recent years and the GLE for example has hard plastic on the lower part of the door panels that you won't see in an X5. It also feels less solid with the row of climate controls in the Merc moving if you press hard on it. Old mercs felt like granite. The newer ones not so much. BMW now has that solid feel and good materials although the interior won't wow as much as the Merc. I'm no quite sure why Mercedes decided on the hard plastic by the door pockets because the smaller GLC SUV has a soft touch there. Maybe they're assuming these would be more for family duties or something but it's bizzare. I think however with the upgraded leather package you get a leather or soft touch panel there. Although unacceptable to have it in the first place.
2 - something never really mentioned, BMWs have THE nicest smelling new car interiors in the car industry. You'll find that Mercedes, Audi and BMW all have different new car smells which they developed because the smell is also part of the luxury experience. You know the brand of German car based on the interior new car smell alone. But man BMW's is the best. Strange no one ever mentions the new car smells.
My mom just bought an X7. It’s so much better for a family.. No heated seats on the GLS?? What the heck? The BMW also is a way better car for the money. That GLS was very ugly and looked like a Toyota minivan
To each their own... but we agree, especially on bang for your buck factor, but most importantly, the blend of comfort and sporty!

Wtf the gls has massage heated and cooled in the first and second row, and the third row can be configured to with seatheating
@@deniskunstle3638 Heated seats are a very rare option on the GLS for the second row. Although some may have it, most of the pre - built ones do not have second row heating. Now this could only apply to the 2020-2021 because that was when we were in the market for one

I love tech in my SUV and the uniqueness of my choice of vehicle. Mercedes is amazing, all BMW looks the same interior and exterior which isn't my taste however I like how BMW is a fun machine to drive. I respect all German vehicles they are amazing. Mercedes the leader in luxury and innovation coming up with safety features first. BMW is slightly cheaper than Mercedes by MSRP yet I wouldn't mind spending more.

I was going to get a gls 450 when I get back from winter in Thailand but I think I like the bmw better.

I wished you would have compared the more popular seating configuration of these models...the 6 seat config. That was the deal breaker for us on the X7 as my children just couldn't navigate between the seats of the X7 like they could with the GLS (that's where their wider body shows between the GLS & the X7). Sure the second row seats can fold up, but no kid has time for that slow moving seat much less operate it correctly every time. 360 parking cameras come standard on the GLS (buried in an expensive package with X7) and the MB Tex is a GREAT alternative to leather if you have children...especially since this is intended as a family car first, you don't want leather (more expensive to maintain).
We seriously considered the X7, but just couldn't get over the smaller trunk, space to climb into the 3rd row with the added 6 seat configuration (MB doesn't charge for that), and all the packages we had to add just to get the 3 features we wanted (which we could add without packages on the MB). Both had great buying experiences though and both make incredibly well built vehicles. Excited to see BMW entering the large SUV market.

Good review, thank you! Love the X7 for the price, mpg, 21” wheels, and the included maintenance for 3 years. But the issue with Apple Play and the trunk space might be a deal breaker. Btw, MB Tex is soft and easy to clean if you have kids.

It is...you just have to configure it. X7 has a lot of their features you want that are inside expensive packages. All-in-all if you spec out the build of the things you want in both, they are most likely both going to be the exact same price. That's what happened for us (MB was actually a little less since they don't charge for the more favorable 6-seat configuration with captain's chairs). It's funny because X7 did some things different, but completely lacked in others...just like the GLS did. It just comes down to the one or two features you value more. It was space for us.
