To drill the pockets as long as those spots are the right place. You can use a Forester bit should make a carbide one to bore them with a good drill press
Hey Rich, good question... I knew one day I would mini-tub, for fatter wheels. Hence the shortening of the axle. I didn't know that day is here, lol. Here we go!
really enjoy the content! I was wondering if I could shave 1/16 off the mounting surface of my wheels using this same method. I'm sure a plunge router would work just don't know how to keep it dead flat.
Thanks... and good question. I wouldn't try it without using a full sized mill. As you know, you'll need a very stable surface for the router to reference/sit on to cut. I'd try a specialty shop like www.wheelredrill.com Let us know how it goes!
Great video as always. Somewhere on youtube there is a video of a A-body getting mini tub and a frame narrowing at the same time. The frame changes gained an inch or two of clearance per side. According to him the inside reinforcements also made the frame much stronger. It might be more work than you want to take on. I could try to find it if your interested.
Is it possible to flip it left and right and put the parking brake caliper on the lower side. It looks like the actual brake caliper has a symmetrical mount. Don’t flip the hydraulic caliper just the mechanical parking brake part.
Hey Brother, I'm going through that process as wr speak. Need to wait for the next mini tub project to finish. Measure offsets.. negotiations, etc. Stay tuned!
That was tense watching the router cutting into the rim. I think my hands would be shaking waiting for it to F up. 😅 Too bad about the mini tub. I think I would find another way for the E-brake to work on the rear discs instead of butchering the wheel wells. Couldn’t you make a different bracket for it to work or find something in the aftermarket or from the brake manufacturer?
Hey Erik... I'm in a conundrum for tire sizing. (Size 20 - 345 tires are few and far between, and I might drop to 19's) Anyway, can you send me some pics of your ride, would love to see the stance and front tire size too... fastmontysgarage at gmail would be great! Thanks!
I would suggest having a professional install those tubs if you've never taken on such a project. (just sayin) Your car is too nice to take a chance with.
Ha! Rickey! You're cracking me up, you know I don't let anyone touch my car. :) and, I know the guy who painted it, God forbid something crazy happens. See you on the next episode!

Nice work Mike. Just keep thinking how sweet those mini tubs are gonna look with some steam rollers tucked in there when done.
Thanks Brother! Me too!
Wow Mike, you can really manage project creep better than anyone. A new rear-end turns into a mini-tub project. Lotsa work, but looking forward to it.
Thanks Scott! yeah, mini tubbing a little sooner than i had planned. ha, ha... I can't wait for fat tires too! Thanks for the comment!
Looking forward to this new project! Keep ‘em coming Mike.
Thanks Robert! Gonna be crazy!
This is where I tell guys welcome to the joys of Hot Rodding
Ha! EXACTLY! thanks Brock!

Awesome! Thanks for the tip, and comment!
Hey Mike. What was the reason for shortening the assembly? Rich
Hey Rich, good question... I knew one day I would mini-tub, for fatter wheels. Hence the shortening of the axle. I didn't know that day is here, lol. Here we go!
reminds me of the time I knocked the studs of a wheel spacer and used 3" wheel studs on the axles... safer
yeah, I ended up not needing to run these spacers. Thank God. Ha, ha... thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the heads up. That's exactly what I'll be doing. Stay tuned.

The short answer is yes. I can't remember why I couldn't use the lower mount, but I'm definitely going to review that again. Thanks for the comment!
Can you still buy wheel barrels from us mag?

Ha! Yeah, RPMs were in my favor. I was nervous AF too. Thanks John!
Ive got 345s under my 69 chevelle. The mini tub wasnt bad but I did have to get custom offset wheels.
Nice! What's the OD of your tire?

Improvements are expensive
Ha! As usual. Thanks Mike!
Isn’t there an optic to mount the caliper in a lower position?
Ohhh yeah. I can't remember why I had to use the top mount. I'll double check. I kind of talked myself into 335's. So there's that too. Lol. Thanks!
@@FastMonty I have a 69 also, thank you for the great content, keep up the great work!
Awesome Mike! Thanks for following along with the craziness. @mikemcnamara2943
Hey hey. Isn't there something called a spot face bit? Probably could be installed in a drill press and you could cut your own reliefs.
Thanks Brother! i'll research that... thanks again for the comment!
