To be honest, if the French continued their policy of "Well, we don't really have anyone around to actually occupy this land, let's get the people in silly headbands to do it while we just stick to the major trade points." You'd probably still have a significant native population today if the French held on to their colonial possessions a little longer. Both sides used the natives as proxies and buffers up until the end of the Seven Years War and the UK still kept a few tribes around after the Revolutionary War for the sole purpose of blocking western expansion/trolling the US. Neither the French nor the English were saints in regards to the treatment of natives (The English originally used captured Indians as slaves until they realized that having a slave that knows the lay of the land and an obvious direction to run in order to get home was a bad idea.), but compared to the Spanish policy of, "lol let's just let them mine silver until they die. WTF, where did all the savages go? Who's gonna work my encomienda now?" they come off as rather lenient and bilateral in comparison even discarding the black legend, though that probably has more to do with the lack of obvious mineral wealth in NA as opposed to Mexico and the Andes.

Many people argue that the US was even influenced by the Haudenosaunee government. The Haudenosaunee also controlled a sizeable chunk of North America in our timeline so there is a precedent of military success. It's up in the air whether they would be able to match the US borders of today, most likely not as the US had many advantages over the Natives which is probably what allowed for their almost complete conquest of North America in our timeline. I do at least think it's reasonable to assume that the Haudenosaunee would become a major power in the region and given their proximity to the Atlantic they would enjoy the privilege of trading with the Europeans across the oceans, who would likely be very interested in their lovely crops.
