    For anyone else doing this swap. I got the high pressure hose from O’Reilly. $21. Part #13401402. Only modification I had to do was bend the hose out a little bit where it treads into the back of the pump. Super easy, did it by hand. If your considering doing this, just do it. Thrilled with the result!

    • @Command37
      @Command37 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So to be absolutely clear, you didn't have to do the double flare? Only had to bend the hose, yes?

    • @matthewrobison6231
      @matthewrobison6231 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Command37 Correct. I don’t own a flare kit. If memory serves, I didn’t have to bend it much. Start small and dry-fit it. Good luck!

      I have a 1996 ford f150 5.0 2wd i got this saginaw version bracket and pump ready. Except the new pump didn’t come with the pulley. Can i use the one from the original power steering system on my 96?

    Started watching your videos about 6months ago. Now I don’t miss one! I just did the Saginaw pump switch on my 94 F150. Wouldn’t have pulled the trigger without your videos. I am thrilled with the result!! Local junk yard sold me one for $40 with the bracket. Keep up the good work!!

      The Fox Shop, yes it is! It cleaned up my steering so much I don’t think I need to replace the gear box anytime soon, which I was shopping for.

  • @obsgarage6682

    Did this on my 94 bronco 351w as well as an 01 f250 steering gear and a HUGE difference, definitely a worthwhile upgrade! Purchased the pump and bracket for the 95 f150 300 i6 but haven't installed it yet. I really like the paint job you did, it looks great.

    i found out you dont have to cut the pressure hose. and it bolts right in , yes its a little longer it comes off the back of the pump, comes under the pump twards front of truck , then curves to the right then back to the port in the gear box, you may have to bend it down a little but it will screw right in, and as a bonus , you dont lose your warranty on the hose. p.s. the vans and the trucks use the exact same gear boxes. i converted mine in less than 30 minutes, and sir you are very correct, IT`S A BEAUTIFUL THING

  • @d0peshow
    @d0peshow 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    For those wondering about doing this conversion on a 460, I suggest looking in E350 buses. I saw several yesterday at the local scrap yard with 460's.

    Thanks for the video. Just swapped mine out in a 95 FSB, steering much more responsive. I had to replace my return hose with a longer one as the old one was just way too tight trying to stretch it. I guess I could have but for just a little extra work I replaced the hose with one three inches longer. Inside diameter 3/8 inch. I also bought a new hp hose from napa

    @mark98070 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Definite improvement!!! My 1995 groaned a little "not much to speak of" I took the return line off the pump, disconnected the coil wire and cranked the engine remotely while
    adding Mercon V. Wanted to be certain I got all the old fluid out. Its been quiet ever since.
    Great Idea though, I'll be on the lookout for a Saginaw pump/bracket for possible future use. Looks easy enough to swap out. I wonder if the steering boxes that are on the vans are the same as the ones they put on the trucks? Thanks for your video. Great Idea!

    • @TheFoxShop
      @TheFoxShop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @mschrar
    @mschrar 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    pretty good way to make the high pressure hose without spending a lot. Was the rubber part of the van hose a lot longer? I didn't have a van hose to work with- just the cut-off end so i ended up making one at considerable cost.

    • @TheFoxShop
      @TheFoxShop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was longer, and the metal tubing going to the steering box was quite a bit longer.. could almost get it to fit, but cutting it and flaring it worked a lot better.

  • @89GTFoxDude
    @89GTFoxDude 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey fox shop I wondering if this convesion would work on my 79 ford pickup. I just replace my steering gearbox, new lines and pump and it friggin whines in running redline synthetic ps fluid. What gives? I've read this is typical what are your thoughts cheers

  • @Command37
    @Command37 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Fox Shop, since you have posted this video, I have gathered everything required to do the same upgrade myself, but I'm pretty sure that the high pressure hose I got from my local Napa is a little different. Upon going into Napa and dealing with an unfamiliar employee, I assumed that there would be only 1 basic high pressure hose for that era of Ford E150 van. Now that I've looked through Napa's website, I fear that I may have wasted $30. My hose is part # NPS 72084 on Napa's website and the specs (length, fitting and tubing diameters) are shown on the page for it. Will this hose work if I cut and double flare it like yours?

    • @TheFoxShop
      @TheFoxShop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Command37 the one I used would be the NPS 73344 from Napa. I just spent a while cross referencing on their website. However, I think the one you got should still work. It's not like the one I used was made to fit, I had to make it work. They should take that hose back though and swap it for the other one. I think the fittings should be the same.

    • @Command37
      @Command37 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've also compared the specs and the only thing i'm worried about is the total length of the hose. I will hold the new pump and hose inside of the engine bay to get a rough idea of whether or not it will work. One last question, did you use only the Lisle double flaring tool or did you first have to use a bench grinder or something to make your double flare?

    • @TheFoxShop
      @TheFoxShop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just the flaring tool. I would mount the bracket and pump up in the truck, screw the one end of the hose into the back of the pump where it goes, and then figure out a good routing for the hose. Is the hose you have longer or shorter or do you know?

    • @Command37
      @Command37 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't know yet. Will have to wait until tomorrow night before I can compare. Just found out that I probably have to work this Saturday, which leaves me with only 1 off-day, but I'm still gunning to complete this mod if it's the only thing I accomplish this weekend.

  • @HWCapps
    @HWCapps 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Working Good NOW ?? The better steering = GM pump is 1200 PSI at 3 gal per min. I have been told I need to reduce PSI to 850 2 gal per min ,for Mustang 2 Rack & pinion . or I will blow out seals.

  • @jasonpsapp17
    @jasonpsapp17 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Fox Shop getting my 94 150's front end all finished up and ready for alignment though my pump groans and I believe my box has play. New steering and suspension components all around. Will the changing of pump/steering box affect alignment? I'm sure I want to do it beforehand anyway I was just curious. Awesome channel thank you

    • @TheFoxShop
      @TheFoxShop  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      changing out the gearbox shouldnt affect alignment. One of the best upgrades is going from the Ford steering pump to a Saginaw pump. Highly recommend!

    • @jasonpsapp17
      @jasonpsapp17 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok so the flaring tool is necessary for the high pressure line? Gathering stuff up for the job. The local junkyards in town are 60-80 dollars for the pump off a van..

  • @Command37
    @Command37 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can you tell me the make and model of the flaring tool you use? My God I've been dreaming of this mod ever since I replaced my pump without any reduction in noise 3 years ago when I got my truck. This is truly an answered prayer, thank you!

That replacement pump that was removed to be installed in the Ford truck is a totally unknown status. JUST FLUSH THE SYSTEM!!! It will save you time down the road.
