I love my Tamron 18-270mm lens, especially when I am out and about shooting birds, wildlife etc, the Tamron is the way to go. I am more than happy with my pictures and I have used it extensively on holidays as well. My Tamron is hitched to a Canon 600D and I find it a great combo.
Its a great lens, I only got mine a few months ago and have used it extensively already. Very versatile. Point to note; it does drain the camera battery overnight if left on your camera. (mine is a Canon 77d) I was puzzled about this for quite a while , until I tried leaving my Canon 18-135m stm on overnight, voila no flat battery, i repeated the test with my Canon 10-18mm stm, again no flat battery next day. Put the tamron 18-270mm PZD back on and , yep, you guessed it, flat camera battery in the morning. I can only surmise its the PZD that pulling a charge from the camera battery. Also I am not the only one who has found this, I found back up on the internet confirming the same. Otherwise a top Lens, I still won't be selling it for a while yet.
I ordered one from TAMRON Canada, after 3 days they emailed me that this lens is back order for 5-10 weeks. I was desperate to get it for Aerial Photography assignment. I finally found it in stock on AMAZON.CA, for the same price of CAD$399 and got it in 3 days with $6 shipping. (THANKS AMAZON). 6 years TAMRON warranty. I put it on my Canon 650D (T4i), Took some sample shots, checked the zoom, focus sharpness, AF speed, VC, and manual focus. I would say its an amazing lens at this price. As one gentleman posted a word "bullshit" about zoom power, I think he needs to understand the zoom power and ratio formula. Either he is using it on full frame camera or something else has gone wrong. I haven`t actually calculated the zoom ratio, but being a videographer, I can imagine how powerful zoom it has. Once I finished my assignment, I will make a sample video to upload. This is definitely not a Pro Quality lens, but a decent lens for semi-pros, Experienced amateurs or wedding and travel photographers. Initial test shots are great, little CA on far edges, only visible in 100% crop. VC (vibration Compensation) is better than some original Canon lenses. Manual focusing is very smooth, no sticky turning like kit lenses. Now Auto Focusing: I took some shots through LCD screen and was little disappointed on how lens was struggling to find the contrast for focusing. Then I took some pictures thru the viewfinder and WOW..that was super fast, PZD motor. I don't know the logic behind this but its true. I went outside to try it again and found it so fast while taking the photos of flying birds at full zoom. My final thought on Pros & Cons will be after doing Aerial Photography from helicopter, which will prove the VC and AF quality. So Stay tuned and Subscribe to my channel. Thanks.
im thinking in buying a lens for my nikon d5100 ... i still have the 18-55 but i would like to buy a lens for long range photos, and maybe macro too ... and i was thinking in buying other material for the camera, but the selection of the lends and price may change that part ... what lens would you sugest at a good mid range price for that kind of photos?
justmeandmy20s did you ever get any responses or suggestions to your question? I am curious as I have been contemplating doing the exact thing as in parting with those two lens and getting the Tamron all in one for my Canon EOS 60D. Please let me know. Thx
I use this lens on my a55 or a580 Sony cameras. Its a cracking lens and I was surprised how sharp the images are that it produces. The Sony 16-105 is a bit sharper but not massively so. Together with the Sigma 8-16 and Sony 30mm macro; this lens is part of a 3 lens kit that I take with me more or less everywhere. The only downside with this lens that I can think of is that it does suffer from zoom creep quite alot.
Great review....I have the Nikon 55-200 and I'm considering trading it for this particular lens. Clearly I'd get more range going and coming, but I'm wonder if there will be an image quality lapse going to the Tamron. Also, aside from the range, is image quality any better or worse than my Nikon 18-105 ? My question is if I go with the Tamron 18-270, do I really need my Nikon 55-200 or 18-105 ? I purchases my lens used and I don't want a bunch of lens's that I won't be using. Thanks again.
excellent review, sir, I'm still in the process of considering whether I want to sell off both of my Canon EF-S IS II lenses (18-55mm and 55-250mm) to buy this as a single dedicated lens, but you gave me plenty of food for thought. would you have a suggestion one way or the other?
Hey mate, Great review! Do you know much of the difference between the Tam.18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC and this 18-270mm '' '' Di-II VC, besides the PZD. I am chasing a lens for my Sony NEX-7, does the 18270 fit the Sony E-mount? Much appreciated Darrell, hope to hear from you Tim
Hi there, have you tried "photo SFX art" (just do a Google search for it...)? There you can watch a good free video showing the right way to take outstanding photographs. This made it easier for Joe to make photographs which leave you with that wow-effect while you look at them. Hopefully it will work for you as well.
Get the L lens, there's no doubt that L lens glass is much better than more cheaper optical glass, but in order to get the best performance out of L lenses, you'll need to pair them up with a decent camera body, but your 60D will go amazingly with any L lenses. The 24-105 L comes in around £550 in some places, and the 70-200 F4 L comes in around £490, so they should be options to consider :)
Thanks for clarafying that for me Darrell :) I was going to get one , istead of going out and buying the L Lenses I need ,I have always used a Nikon and have lenses for that ,But In buying the canon I only have a 24mm So I guess I will wait and get the right ones :)
@36mystz Yes indeed. I was super noob. And I wished that there was someone there when I started who told me NOT to buy bad but expensive lenses like these so that i didnt waste time and money taking bad pictures with bad lenses. Get yourself some good lenses. Canon L glass. It is worth the investment. And get fast glasses, not f/6.3.
This isnt about noobs vs professionals. I consider myself a professional and am interested in this lens as a vacation/walkaround lens for when I want a camera but dont absolutely need the best quality out there. I dont want to be on vaca and have to switch from a 35mm prime to a 135mm prime when I see something cool, etc LOL
But its not going to fill the frame. Its fits but you see a circle so in the end you will be disappointed. I leave it on my T3i. Nice lens. It fits Full frame But not built for it, Its basically the worst vignetting you will ever see.
I have this lens. DON'T BUY IT! Use the money to buy a wide angle lens (or at least 18 to 70) and a 70 to 300 telephoto lens. It has horrible softening on each end.... Unbelievably bad... (Used on D7000)
That was fully bullshit, It's not more then 135 zoom, I just wasted my money for buying that lens . It's Auto focus just fucking ...., I prefer to buy Canon 18- 135 STM lens !
theres HUGE barrel distortion. This is a noob lens. Noobs dont understand Chromatic abberation, barrel distortion, fast aperatures, sharp images. They only care about zoom and megapixels..... shame on lens makers to exploit people's ignorance

Great review ... I received one from my wife for Christmas and am quite excited to get started using it. I will be using on a Canon 60D.

Thanks from Chicago.

wont let me link to my photo on flickr, but it is almost identical!
I use the Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 on a Canon 5d mkII, I would recommend it to anyone. Very sharp, beautiful bokeh.
can i use this lense on canon 1100D?

Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5 6.3 Di II VC PZD w/DA 18
Tamron SP 70-300MM F/4-5.6 Di VC USD
