    Great video. Wonderful experience there. Here in Midwest US, Wisconsin, for winter scuba, we use a chainsaw with mineral oil as the chain lube to cut the holes. Mineral oil does not not taint the water. Triangles are the standard cut The sides are about 2 meters (yards) long as more room is needed for scuba gear. Then we push the triangle of ice under the surface to save it to fill the hole back in when done diving. It refreezes the hole over night. Of course, we use dry suits and the water is always 'warmer' (not as friggin cold) as the air. We usually set up a shelter on the ice and make hot chocolate inside and provide heat & shelter from wind.

    How long can you hold your breath for ? Asking for a friend
    (The friend is me)

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty average but most dives are between a minute and two minutes depending on depth and what I’m trying to spear. In ice water, not quite so long 😁

    AH NO................I struggle to do a swim thru in 27deg water and breath hold in that temp about 30 seconds.

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a bit of a struggle for the first few dives but once you just relaxed it was fine to be honest. Just had to trust yourself to get out of the hole.

    Mat are you going to Portugal World Cup this year?

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think so that this stage. Australia isn’t sending a team so I can’t go and film them, nor did I qualify. Great Britain didn’t qualify for the competition although I was ranked 8th last year so may have made the team if some higher ranked divers couldn’t go.
      Wish I could go to film the event as well but I’ve had no response from the organisers or CMAS.

    • @DanielMann

      We tried looking for some fish to shoot but obviously couldn’t stray too far from the hole in the ice.
