Just thought of this, call your local friends and have a fall/harvest clean-up and pot-luck. Maybe that will help you with the work and they can help pick all the food so it doesn’t go to waste. What’s left turn the land so it becomes compost before the snow shows up. Just a thought. I’ll see what part of this worked for you and what didn’t in your next video. Be true to your dream and vision and don’t let anyone steal it.

We were never meant to live isolated and so independent. Interdependence is who we really are as a humanity. We are much like pack animals. The independence that you two young women are experiencing are helping to gain incredible abilities and it also will bring you back full circle to Interdependence where the stresses of doing everything alone will be lifted through comradery that only community provides. You two are so much fun to watch as you progress through your independent lifestyles.

What you said is so true - we evolved in tribal communities not by ourselves- not to mention as nomads that did very little actual “work”, not in agrarian societies full of toil - that kind of life is hard to find now but hopefully Isabelle will feel better when her family moves to live with her

There’s a lot of placing the camera, walking up a mountain - then going back to get the camera - rinse, repeat. One hike or even any task would take 3-4 times longer than normal. Not to mention, having to think of placement, every shot and consider “the story” takes one out of the present moment and the experience in itself. I imagine it would take a lot of time to pull off this style - then edit. It is time consuming - then add on top laborious tasks… girl needs a holiday ;)

I watched yours and Hannah's side by side. It's interesting to see the different editing styles you two have. The main difference is of course you use V.O. and she doesn't, but also of the same trip and basic footage what each of you chose to be important and focus on down to the color correction you choose. Yours is more raw and hers more vibrant. Interesting study on how an editors choices can affect the mood and feel of the film. Sorry you've been feeling down. Hope spending time with a friend helps make your tomorrows lighter. :-)

Technically she’s not off grid. She lives in tiny house alone but not off grid. There’s roads, electrical, water, WiFi, cell service on property. Her dad already had property well established before she built tiny home.

Welcome to farming -- the autumn always feels like that -- the awareness that winter is coming and time is short, the readiness to be done with it all -- and then the first hard freeze comes and all of a sudden the season is over. If you stick with a seasonal lifestyle, you will learn to use winter to rest and travel.

I agree.....'welcome to farming'......seasonal sustainable living is hard work, fun work, enriching.....as the sun rises in the morning, so do you. We take WWOOFERS seasonally to help. We work, play, share, dance, work.....in Australia, although we prepare for winter, our winters are mild so although our farm work slows, it never really ends. We have learnt to work with mother nature in absolute gratitude. You are right, winter is good for hibernating or travelling. xx

So true, that's farming - at least on that scale, I suppose - too big to eat all up, too small to sell for make a living - and only a few hands available to work. We also cannot manage to eat all and/or give away to neighbors, but no issue, the rest returns to nature as good compost and improves the soil year by year... cheers M.

It really depends on your area. I live in an area where it doesn't get very cold. The high this week is 80, it hasn't froze over, and we rarely even get rain.

  • @vanhout3410

So relatable! Building & farming is more work than it looks, and it is so easy to get lost in the list of chores that seem to pile up, especially in the summer & autumn. To me, it helps to see the building / farm work as any other job (because it is). You need relaxation, and you need to do fun things with other people in your free time, just as you would with any other job.
Also, try to pick your battles, dear; Perfection is boring, and on a farm it is a total illusion. You cannot harvest every single tomato plant & make it into perfect tomato sauce to stock for winter, while having so many other chores to do at the same time. Ask some friends if they feel like coming over to pick some free veggies, throw the rest on a compost pile, or feed the neighbour´s chickens with them & get over it.
Focus on finishing the most important chore (the studio roof?), and get some more sleep; Autumn requires our bodies to rest more.
Don´t forget to give yourself some credit for priorotizing what is crucial & letting go of the rest (very yoga, actually).
Hope you get to enjoy the beautiful autumn season!

I see a person who is living and learning, not someone who took too many projects on. Sure from the outside, I wondered if you would be able to keep up, but I have been impressed thus far at how you have managed. Family is essential, they are very helpful and a good family will always be ready to help. Eventually though, they too have to get back to their lives. That is life Isabel, we get that 'life high' and want to take on the world. Good friends always come around at the right time, good time for a reset. Take a rest, rest your mind and body and just live. Like you said. And when you get back to the farm, roll up them sleeves, take a deep breath and get to work!

Excellent video. You’ve had a lot of changes this year, be kind to yourself. I stopped doing massive gardens years ago and am now doing raised vegetable beds. I’ve stored all we need for the upcoming year, plus gave away a lot to neighbors and friends. Amazing how much 2 or 3 plants produce, plus situation is more manageable with watering, weeding and harvesting. Also, you don’t have to do long marathon content. That might help. Take care of you. 💕

Allow yourself to just feel the emotions. Social media and our current society, has wired our brains to be constantly looking for dopamine hits. It also takes away from the ability to just be at peace and enjoy the lessons. We are human beings, not human doings. We are not meant to be feeling a constant high, we're meant to be growing within each lesson, big and small. Peace, stillness and being present is most certainly underrated as well. Enjoy each moment for what it is, as well as the changing seasons!

The issue is effort. she has lots of pending tasks. She needs to 'find & follow' the "critical path" that best supports HER general well being over the greatest span of time. Just 2 hands there... LISTS really help! I use a white board and dry erase markers. The board remembers what I have to do so I don't have to... and I don't forget! But I don't erase one when I'm done.! I draw lines through completed 'steps'. It feels great to look at all the lined-out stuff I had to do!

That feeling you had before your trip... Yes definitely time for a break, a trip, distance... But also the right time to reach out to community... When you ask for help when overwhelmed it is not only you who gets helped, the person helping you also gets the lift of purpose, connection, and the feel good feeling of being in service to others. Always remember to reach out for help in those moments. Its not only for you, its for them too. You have such a beautiful spirit to share, do let others lift you as well.

As someone who grew up in the country, I hear you, I think just about this time of year, I always thought Thier is so much to do and so little time. People who have never had to prepare for winter and bring in the crops, canning and chopping never seams to end. I found that if I focused on one thing each day, and accepted that it might not all get done, but it will eventually. It really helps. Speaking of helping, I love your videos, I know many people who are in hospital, and shut inns that only see the outside in your videos. I know for a fact that it helps them emotionally as well as phisicaly. ( It might be my fault as I have suggested it to many of them.) So I really just wanted to say thank you for your hard work and time. I understand that it is a lot of work, and time, but it is truly appreciated. I hope this helps, keep being you. 🤗

And Isabel …. Just think 🤔 when the studio is finished- it’s done - never to be dwelt with again! And then good and great things can begin inside!! 🎨 🧶 🎵
Plus now after a year of gardening there, you will know much better next spring what & how much to plant for your daily needs … and don’t worry about the weeds. Everyone’s garden is overgrown by the end of the season. Just plow it under.
Keep on keeping on and the kinks will smooth out.

My advice - Write yourself a list of all the things you need to do, then list them by priority and just work your way down the list. By breaking things down into parts (in this case a list of tasks that need doing) it becomes much less stressful and you will find it much easier to get things done without feeling so stressed & burnt out it also gives you little goals you can set yourself which when you achieve them you feel so much better. This is what I do and it works for me, it might work for you too.

My own experience (of working with and without lists) suggests that this is good advice. It's also very satisfying to tick items off your list as you do them. You may never clear the list completely (I don't) but if you can show yourself progress that's still worth something.

100%. Love a list. It’s like planning a mountain climb. From the bottom it looks overwhelming - but if you break it up into stages you gradually get up to the top - and more importantly in one piece.

Saving as much as possible from the crops and preserving for the winter might be a good thing to focus on and maybe get your family to help with clearing the dry wood....it's manageable, but not all at the same time...you can do it....but also make time to recharge and refresh yourself...

In my considered opinion, it appears that Ms. Isabel is a complete fraud for purposes of monetizing a youtube channel. Success! With her numbers, she's doing well. She's got a good hustle going and and good for her. I'm not a hater, but IMO she's lying about her story, which is what I object to. I don't like being lied to. So don't be a clueless chump for her. Here's an alternate reality: th-cam.com/video/QwoKc2AXezs/w-d-xo.html
My red-flags started rising when Ms. Paige suddenly decamped her hard work-site at the Washington site to travel to Scotland and got set-up in some sweeeeeet situation right from go! None of the timing worked to accomplish so much from so little. She apparently left the Wenatchee area in a plunging hurry. Had she been exposed there and thus found life intolerable living an apparently public lie? Plus, everything else that makes no sense now viewed in hind-sight:
      - Working some (close-to) minimum-wage job in a food co-op in Wenatchee for income.
      - Expensive photography equipment consisting of many many video cameras, drones, editing equipment, etc.
      - The time for Isabel (or somebody) to spend a LOT of time editing the videos, which, let's face it, are beautiful and well crafted. But is this the work-product from somebody working a food co-op job and trying to grow her own food while working many many construction projects at her Washington site...or does she hire a full-time editor?
      - New work spaces, sheds, etc. being constructed. Lumber and supplies for building is pricey? Where did funds come from? Not the income from a Wenatchee food co-op source. Her contractor father?
      - Apparently Isabel lives for free on her parent's land, and constructed her life there for free. It's not the story it appears to be.
      - Good quality power tools, battery powered and grid. That equipment isn't cheap. Her contractor father, again?
      - Cats cats cats. Pets get expensive. They look good for cuteness and value projecting. Hmmm. And she's suddenly leaving them behind?
      - That well-fenced, well-irrigated "garden" represents an enormous investment in time and expense to set-up. Fence, irrigation, tractor and/or roto-tiller, other equipment alone = $$tens-of thousands of dollars. On a Wenatchee Food coop wages?
      - Two air tickets to Scotland plus luggage fees. Hmmm
      - Landing in a sweet (and sizable!) "cottage" to settle into for "several weeks".
      - An expensive van in good-shape purchased in Scotland and completely converted....while having the time to explore much of the country. The timing, the money, the accomplishments so quickly!
      - She's got mad skills with carpentry and power equipment for an airy-fairy nature girl. Most likely trained and assisted by her contractor-father?
      - She apparently started with serious assets. This was no rags-to-riches, I-made-it! story. She started with considerable assets.
I was so taken in at first with her hard-work success story. I loved her narrative. Now everything appears to be a carefully curated and youtube-monetized illusion. It appears Isabelle is a fraud. Who's the real Isabel? I feel like a chump. Kinda pissed.
