I’m so happy that we’re getting so many of these older Star Wars stories in omnibus format. Can’t wait to pick this up and excellent overview as always 🔥🔥
Can’t wait to get my hands on this omni! I love the Rogue Squadron books, and these comics act as the perfect introduction to the original Rogues and some of the conflicts in the later books. Really great series of comics, thanks for the breakdown Omar!!
Thank you for the review Omar. Awesome job as always 👍🏼 Really hoping Marvel give us Star Wars Vol 2 (Gillen/ Pak) soon, it’s been a long wait since Vol 1.
Really wish you’d read the Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi book series. Fate ties all Star Wars comics, books, movies and Clone Wars cartoons together in a amazing series.
I only have part of the Shadows of the Empire Dark Horse comics and that is the extent of my Dark Horse collecting of Star Wars. So I don't know any of the stories her in this omnibus. I reall appreciated your overview as it is enticing me to buy it. I really do appreciate the time you took to give ALL of us this video, Omar!
I went with the standard cover. I’ve never read any of these stories so I’m excited to dig in. Volume 2 is the big one with the Thrawn trilogy & the Dark Empire trilogy, it’s due out in September 🤞🤞
I’ll have to pick this up! I have the complete adaptation of dark horse’s tankobon manga of the original trilogy. And, I did catch wind of the Heir to the Empire trilogy in comicbook form. Marvel should do an Omni of that trilogy next! 😊
The New Republic Omnibus 2 (set to be released in September) will collect the comic adaptation of the Thrawn Trilogy & it's sequel, the Dark Empire Trilogy (which is referenced in a lot of the EU novels set after that).
The books by Stackpole (which came before, during, and after) are great too. Also check out Wraith Squadron by Aaron Allston which are fun and funny. Of course, according to Darth Kennedy, none of these legends books exists as she had nothing to draw from like Marvel did with the comics.
Which book is going to collect Shadows of the Empire? I thought this was supposed to be the first book in the new republic Era so it seems a bit out of order?
is there any storyline with dooko as qui-gons mentor and training him as a jedi? In graphic novel format. Im not familiar with any of the graphic novels but i have seen all the movies. thanks in advance
I pre-ordered this book and it's great to see that I picked up the hobby and reading while these are brand new. I'm only missing the Marvel Star Wars books; OOP OOF!
Looks like they moved the date for Omnibus 2 from September of 2023 to June of 2024. No reason why. I so wanted that collected edition of Thrawn Trilogy and Dark Empire in one hardback volume.
Does it include the invasion of that bio species which I don’t know the name but in this one they were scary as heck bio ship bio vine gravity beasties
Could anybody answer me this. I’m after Vol2 due to the Thrawn Trilogy & Dark Empire. Do I need to read Vol1 at all? The Mara Jade story at the start seems worth while which I can read on the internet, but if I skip the rest am I missing much relevance for the next book?
I really dislike that black picture frame they've been doing that cuts off a large part of the cover art. Also not a huge fan of the tendency to just throw random stuff together for an omni when a lot of it was published so separately. Makes for choppy reading experience. IMO this should've been an X-Wing/Rogue Squadron omnibus with a separate deluxe for the Mara Jade comic, SotE sequel put in a SotE omni, and the SW Tales stuff being its own omni. I guess it's nice to have in OHC format at all though.
I agree but at the same time we already have a bunch of the old omnibuses that do that. There's a lot of comics inbetween those collections that just don't fit a specific theme while the Marvel omnibuses seem to be more for collecting everything in chronological timeline order. I do wish some of the longer running series got the same treatment as lot of the canon SW Marvel omnibuses or even the KOTOR one. I'd kill for a Dark Times omnibus that collects all of the storyline in one instead of having it split like it is between Empire vol 1 and vol 2 since I couldn't care less about the droid comics that make up half of the latter.
@@OneRandomVictory none of those are OHC though, and all are out of print. Trying to put the decades of EU material into timeline order just... doesn't work between overlapping retcons and casual "as you know" spoilers. The KOTOR omni is so good precisely because it doesn't do that and is purely publication order. Some stuff getting put together is ok, but the way the Marvel omnis do EU material really impacts the reading experience - which is the whole point of getting an OHC edition in the first place.
@@eVeNmOrEiNsAnItY Again, I'm not disagreeing with you but I think their goal is simply to have everything in legends available for those that want it. The older omnis were far more readable but there's a lot of comics that just wouldn't see the light of day again if they did that. Maybe they'll do more themed ones once they reprint everything. Who knows.
Completely agree with you. It's all over the place. Throwing everything together like this, especially longer runs with other miniseries, is just not working for me. I own the KOTOR omnibus and I'm so glad it stands alone, without interruptions. Certain SW stories do intertwine with the miniseries of those eras (like Dark Times and the DH Vader comics and Republic/Clone Wars with stuff like Obsession) but those were all released concurrently for the most part and planned to work together so it works when reading. Other cases, like the stories here in this New Republic omnibus, have no relation to each other other than the in-universe time period. Also, because of this you'll have excellent stories paired up with sub-par ones. Or in my case, stories that are tagged onto others that I am not interested in.
Hey Omar, I got a X-men related question for you if you wouldn’t mind answering. I want to read Greg Rucka’s run on wolverine but I only really collect Omnis. So by your guesstimation, how long do you think it would take the wolverine omnibus to reach that run? Which is the beginning of wolverine vol 3 I believe.
He answered that question on last Saturday's live stream. He said something like 14 omnis before Mark Millar's run. So, maybe by 2030. Being serious, an OHC sounds more likely in the near future.
@@marcelo-ramos Thanks for the reply, didnt get around to seeing the live stream so thats my bad. Appreciate it. Ill probably buy the single issues then and do a custom bind maybe.
Not quite true regarding these being adaptations. The Rogue Squadron series which represents the bulk of this omni came out a couple of years before the first Rogue Squadron game (which btw takes place between A New Hope and Empire, unlike the comics). Also, Shadows of the Empire was a larger project involving a novel, a video game and comics all released at roughly the same time. Haven't read this particular miniseries myself, but I believe it complements the game/book rather than being a straight-up adaptation. Anyway, I get that you might not be interested in the subject matter, so no argument there :)
Can’t wait for omnibus 2. It contains the comic version of Thrawn Trilogy and Dark Empire.
Agreed. Its a must buy for me
Hi, I too plan on getting Vol. 2, but would you say I need to get this to understand any stories in the second volume?
@@zeldasaberjr i certainly wasn’t planning on getting vol 1 either, but the art looks gorgeous
I hope we get Tales of the Jedi and Legacy omnis soon!
Me too
Tales of the Jedi would be great!
tales of the jedi omnibus will be probably after vol.3 epic collection
Yeah
Tales of the Jedi probably won't be happening for awhile since they releasing the collections rn :(
22:30 true. We need Star Wars Legends EC reprints alongside the omnis
Can’t wait to get this one! Hope Mr.Gabriel gets us legends clone wars omni & Tales of the Jedi omni!
I’m so happy that we’re getting so many of these older Star Wars stories in omnibus format. Can’t wait to pick this up and excellent overview as always 🔥🔥
The X-Wing books take place right after the X-Wing comics and right before Heir to the Empire. They're really good!
Totally agree with you regarding what is or is not canon. After this review I will be picking this up, thanks.

I think you sold me on this one, Omar! May the force be with you.
I was hoping you'd preview this one! Thanks Mr. Omar 💯
Rouge Squadron from the Expanded Universe? I'm tempted. That wrap-around cover makes it even more tempting....
Really wish you’d read the Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi book series. Fate ties all Star Wars comics, books, movies and Clone Wars cartoons together in a amazing series.
Oh I'm so happy to have this finally!!!!
You’ve definitely sold me on this one! Love the Timothy Zahn books.

Man I hope that blurriness is just a specific printing defect in yours and not present in all copies.
The DM cover is amazing. I can't wait to get my copy 🔥✊

Thank you and yes!
And with so mant star wars omnis. We will probably need a reading order of omnis
Anyone who knows Star Wars novels should be stoked about this!
Hehehe. I flipped my copy with this.. :)
Got it last week but waited till today to crack it open..
Can I read this omnibus without having to read any previous books?
thanks omar, cant wait for this one
Haven’t gotten to picking up any of the legends omnis yet, I’m really looking forward to getting them to read for the first time

Disney sure does love that imac printer
So it looks like this collects 2 out of the 3 shadows of the empire stories. Do any of these new marvel omni's collect shadows of the empire?

Where can I purchase this!
I have a question about the droids and ewoks from dark horse comics the omnibus edition what volume is it
I think that's in the empire vol. 2.
Droids and Ewoks is already its own Omnibus.
I confirm my copy is good. No blurry text
Also, they forgot to put the page numbers, so that's annoying

I’m just waiting for vol 2 to come out so people can finally sell their epic vol 4 for a reasonable price lol
B-E-A- utiful!
I checked my epic copy of the rogue squadron and no blurry text
Thank you for checking. Odd.
I checked the original Dark Horse floppy for the X-Wing Rogue Squadron: The Phantom Affair, where it did show up
i loved the ewok movies.
Star Wars Dark Horse comics = yes please
Nice!
Marvel please give us ALL the Star Wars omnis!!
Do I need this book to understand volume 2?
Not really.
@@NearMintCondition thank you! So many books coming out need to save when I can
My copy is late. I'm getting annoyed
Do these omnis basically collect graphic novel versions of the actual legends novels?
So spoiler request.....lol Does Dash Rendar show up in here? Cause I have no interest otherwise 😅
Only complaint really is how lame that DM looks :/ wish they had gone with a much more interesting cover.
I don't know about this one. It looks too random for me. I'm also not a fan of the art, except for the ships, those do look amazing.
Apathy towards SW.
Great job Disney.
I think this is a pass. Mostly adaptations of video games I never played. Meh.
