Also, Woods references being stuck in the “Hanoi Hilton”, one of if not the *worst* POW camp during the Vietnam War. It earned its name from the US soldiers imprisoned there who were treated incredibly inhumanely such as being chained in straining positions, being beaten upside down, and being confined to quarters too small for them while still in shackles. So Woods endured THAT, and *then* watched his men die of starvation one by one as he hung onto the thread of hate that kept him going. Woods is a *BEAST* and we love him for it.
Not only that, he endured six months of that before being shipped over to Da Nang, which, he says, "made the Hilton look good." Get yourself a chad like Woods.
And after all that, he shoots and (maybe) kills his best friend after being manipulated by the man he absolutely despises, then is promptly crippled for life by that said man. Even after all of this, he steps up and becomes a good adoptive father to David, dude surpasses the legend tier
Little fun fact about the man on fire, every Black Ops timeline game (including World at War) the first thing you see after the initial briefing/intro is fire. 2 things I also love about Harper's (potential) death scene. Is that he calls back at what he said the begging of the mission when he says, "no matter what happens out there, when the bullets start flying, you CANNOT blow your cover." And in that moment he calls Farid "Egghead" the nickname harper calls him through out the game. By saying "Do it, Egghead! Do your job!" he's trying to discreetly tell Farid to kill him and to keep his cover.

I think a lot of us on the internet, especially now after a whole 10 years have passed since this game came out and we got older, all got to grow up in our early teens in the golden age of COD and COD youtube. And BO2 was not only the peak of that era, but the end of it too. I think thats why so many of us have such a strong connection to this game. I mean yeah it's straight up the best cod game thats come out ever even without all the nostalgia, but really i think this game encapsulates an era that we will never be able to go back to again, one that i think alot of us look back on as some of our best memories

Yes!! My favorite CoD. I love how Black Ops 2 has decisions/events that literally alter the way the campaign plays out so much so that on one ending Menedez actually can win. And love the loadout customization before each mission

18:60 It’s unfortunate that most people believe in the misconception that Hudson is truly a traitor when he’s actually loyal. He was pretty much grabbed by the balls by Mendendez and was forced in a lose lose situation. He had to chose the lesser of two evils, and weighed David’s life over Mason’s and even sacrificed HIS own life to spare Wood’s and David’s life.

One of my favorite parts about BO2 is how while there are choices, not all of them matter as much. Harper getting his face burned adds exactly one line of dialogue and changes his model, but that's it. Not shooting Kravchenko adds some dialogue as well, but doesn't actually affect anything. Meanwhile, assassinating Tian Zhao saves the U.S.S. Obama and nets you sniper support during the final mission (and these snipers will immediately kill any enemy snipers as well). Not shooting Harper as Farid indirectly gets both Chloe and Salazar killed. Some choices have much more impact, but all of them still affect some things, so they all still matter. (Also Strike Force missions were cool and I want them to come back)
Actually Hudson was kidnapped and being forced to give false information. All was to keep little David alive bc if he don't Menendez will kill David. I honestly sad seeing how the old guys die out ( wood survived ).
one thing i wanna add is that the theme song for Savimbi is called "Savimbi's Pride". A group of lions is called pride, Savimbi is leading his army in the first mission. So Savimbi's Pride can also mean Savimbi's army
I always liked how Menendez didn't kill Mason because he didn't have the need for revenge. Instead he uses him to cause woods pain and then kills Hudson as he was the one who stopped him from helping his sister. Just little details like that blow me away
So in 2013 my Mom basically disappeared for a few months and left me to live at... some guy she knew's place. He barely came by either so for months, I had the place paid for and to myself. Mom would drop off like $20 for groceries... weekly? Biweekly? It was rare. And the only entertainment I had was the guy's TV and a PS3 with 'Skyrim', 'NFS: Hot Pursuit' and this. And I played 'Black Ops II' campaign literal dozens of times because of this. Going through this video is such a giant weird nostalgic flashback overload of mild depression but, this game will always be very cherished to me for helping me through that as a 15 year old.

If there was one time period I could experience all over again, it would easily be this game in its prime, I love the majority of the other COD's but absolutely nothing compares to this masterpiece.

14:00 - This is one of the most iconic moments of the whole franchise, playing as the villain in full berserk mode, after some dudes did some unethical stuff with his sister, my god, this franchise used to be ballsy these days.
Fun Fact: The story of BO2 can change due to your actions and its actually possible to get a good ending for the game. For example, the first major decision with Alex Mason, you actually can make yourself NOT shoot Kravchenko and in order to get the best ending, these are the major ones: Major Choice #1: As Mason, you don't shoot Kravchenko to get the needed info. Major Choice #2: Save Karma, before she's taken away. Major Choice #3: During the Flashback scene where you play Menendez, when you control Mason, there's a room you can find Intel that will change the events of the story of Mason learning major secrets never been seen before. If you don't find them, you get the semi-good ending. Major Choice #4: Don't Kill Mason. Shoot him in his legs like you did. Major Choice #5: Sad as it is...as Farid, you have to kill Harper in order to get the good ending. Major Choice #6: Spare the admiral during the whole ship level (I forget the name of it. XD) Major Choice #7: You must make sure to complete all the side missions as if you don't, you will get the bad ending in doing so. And Major Choice #8: Spare Menendez. Which you already did and that's good. If you do these choices, you get the good ending and everyone is able to live a better life, save for Menendez who's furious and uh...shows his frustration. 😅
If you end up grabbing the CIA Intel folder in the Menedez Cartel Bunker on Time And Fate it’s actually revealed there is a real mole and I’m pretty sure it unlocks dialogue that reveals the mole is actually Hudson
I love when woods describes what menendez did to him and his men. Especially the end where he progressively gets more mad talking about it, “so yeah the next time I saw him I Lost My shit, WHAT THE FUCK WOULD YOU DO!”
21:58 did you see Farid's finger twitch? His right hand, his TRIGGER finger. A subtle sign that killing the Americans stuck with him, like he's reliving the trauma of killing his friends.
Would love to see Final Fantasy XV next. It’s a great game for first-timers to the series, and I think you’d personally love the protagonists’ dynamic and chemistry with each other
I played through this a few weeks ago and loved it. IMO the custom loadout system in this is much better then the one in Black Ops III and IMO such a system should have been included in every COD campaign after this.
It's very interesting how the first game opens up with a small flame from a lighter while the second one opens up with a man burning to death. Really lets you know shit's about to get real
Remember how many easter eggs B01 had that Reznov was alive, en he showed up here for a bit and then left again? He was pretty much confirmed alive. But then they never looked back at that ever again, wich is sad.
"Playing this game as a 12-year old kid... it was my childhood." ..got me feeling old, bruh... I was 21 when this game released.... omw to 31.... As always, damn good job on your content. Stay cool, my guy. 😎
20:18 this is the most realistic depiction of a villain right here. People always critique things because the villain could have done something that would've ensured their victory. But you gotta remember, to most of these villains it's just a game. They do these things to torture, something realistic that an audience just doesn't understand, which does go to show how different a mad man is from the normal man or the hero.
Legit, probably one of the best cod stories. And one of the most original. No russian villain. Politically savvy story with consequences. Actually sensible villain motives.
This game is definatly the last good Cod in the golden cod era. this was the last call of duty that i genuenly put alot of time and made memories in. This was the last cod in the cod golden age era im so glad to be borned and played these cod during the golden era.
During the ending where Menedez and Woods are doing the band concert performance you can see a moment where Mason is on the dance floor partying with Reznov, the camera will cut away for a bit and return to the two of them only to reveal Reznov is no longer there, with Mason looking around for him in confusion +1 Win
10:00 that's exactly why this was the best setting for BO2. tech was advanced but still felt plausible, and you could sit there and think "huh, they might actually have this stuff one day soon"
This game had a lot of stuff I didn't expect from a cod game. It was the first time I gave more than half a shit about the villain and his motivations. I didnt bother with the strike missions either until recently because I hate RTS, but dipping and diving into first person made it playable. That combined with the fact that it actually changes the events of the subsequent missions made it kind of a breath of fresh air. Like I didn't know that by doing them you could save the Obama and make allies with the Chinese. The voice acting was on point. The gunplay was on point. I spent a lot of hours on that multiplayer and I still play the zombies to this day. Masterpiece m8
Back when you could just pop the disc in and play the game immediately. You didn’t have to wait hours on end for it to install or have it take up half the storage on your console. The last great COD game.
@@freeyourmind1529 it’s because there is so much data for these games, that they can’t read it off the disk fast enough to make the games look as good as they do. So it gets put onto the actual system for faster transfer
18:10 there’s also another line you can get in the mission “Time and Fate”, when you’re down in the drug lab as Mason, you can find a CIA dossier where he mentions CIA being there. BO2 got these neat details that makes me miss the old activison and treyarch
I've loved your reviews on the various COD games, they are awesome to see some of the references and things that we just don't always catch! It does suck a bit that you didn't go down each individual choice to win how they affected the story, or neat tidbits about them, would've been cool to see. Also, i hope you end up going back to do the zombies maps at some point, either way, here's to a awesome video!
Here before all the this game was my childhood comments. Edit : this is a joke but even still reading like 30 comments from this video like 25 of them are saying the same thing.
@@IamaPERSON played campaign 5 times to see all the different cutscenes and endings. Got really really bored of tranzit, so i got the zombie dlc in 2020. And i used to grind multiplayer with my brother but you know hackers everywhere so not anymore. But if i have like 30 minutes to kill ill always replay a campaign mission. They are so fun and not too long or short.
I played this campaign over and over and over and over maybe 100 times as a kid. it was my favorite thing ever and I just adored fighting menendez. once I found out you didn't have to kill mason I was totally shocked.
this game was my introduction to avenged sevenfold which is still to this day my favorite band so watching the after credits scene of them backstage brings back so many great memories
BO2 was my 1st cod (wasn't allowed to play MW or BO1 because of my parents) and I adored it. I was a console player so I really didn't know about the rts genre and fell in love with it, the multi-player was amazing dispite me being mostly terrible at it, and I likely have more hours on survival town than most games. The campaign was truly my favorite however. The rts was so much fun and having all the choices in how the story went blew my mind as a child. (I got the white house burning ending the 1st time because I was hyperfocused on killing Menendez and didn't think of the consequences.) BO2 really got me into the FPS genre and is likely why I became friends with 3 of my buddies. I'll always love this game and go back to it every so often to re live a part of my childhood.
This came out my sophomore year of high school and man do I have some FANTASTIC memories from that time. I wish they had kept this formula throughout the rest of CoD, only thing that came close was Cold War. I remember being skeptical about this game before it released as the futuristic stuff just isn’t my forte, and seeing horseback missions in the trailer threw me off. After playing it, it of course all made sense and is probably in my top 3 campaigns.
And after 10 years and playing that campaign like..3 times, I discovered that you can burn Harper's face in this video. That's how cool the Black Ops series was, as you said, those little moments in gameplay that are details but make it more interesting.
Black Ops 2 was my first cod game ever. I had played with my friends always with the multiplayer and the endless nights playing zombies on transit and other maps. It was those moments I fully realize Video Games are fucking amazing.
The mission as Menendez was epic! Great storyline. I also got the worst ending on my first play through. Definitely was not smart enough to put everything together at that age
Alright, my headcanon is that the ending music video IS the Canon ending. Woods and Menendez worked about what happened years ago, so they finally decided to overcome it by playing with Avenge Sevenfold at the end. You cannot convince me otherwise
Menendez constantly quoting great intellectuals reminds me of one of Tolkien's quotes "Evil cannot create anything new, it can only pervert what good has created."
Wow, there’s so much symbolism in this game I never realized existed until now. I didn’t expect a crash course in Greek poetry but now all I want is to listen to you analyze the symbolism in this campaign!!
When I first played the game I had no idea what martyr meant, I assumed he was just saying murder, I chose to kill him. Just now I realized what Raul meant, also never knew what Ulysses was, thank you for teaching me.
The Cordis Die base thing being on Haiti in the last mission is quite genius. Haiti was freed via a slave rebellion against the French and is a black-majority country, perfect as the host for a Cordis Die base.
One of my favorite cod’s ever the hidden and obvious choices placed in the story and the customization! I love it all Probably why I also like infinite warfare’s campaign
22:19 I just realized this is a reversal of President Al-Fulani’s execution in COD4 - the big bad points a gun at the executioner, then twirls it and let him take it to execute a restrained character. Only now you are the executioner and not the victim.
I really like the big music video that ends the main campaign with all the major characters. Considering the next BO game had little to nothing to do with this one, that music video serves as a pretty fitting finale to the whole storyline.
I can't wait for BO3 it is one of my favorite and puts you through a whole rollercoaster of emotions and the ending is insane. Also Mason is alive only if you shoot him in the leg. If you shoot him in the head he doesn't come back. So thats what I love about this game. The different endings makes you want to make all the different choices each and every time.
I'm so happy to hear you say IW is up there with the best. The campaign is one of the more underrated ones and I always have a blast playing through it!
The music in the Mason reveal is the bo2 main theme, the best main theme I've heard ever, which fits the game perfectly, calm beginning then suffering then, resolve? Maybe
This is no doubt my favourite call of duty but an unpopular opinion is I really enjoyed Bo3, they deviated from what we expect in a black ops and I enjoyed it

XD)
Major Choice #7: You must make sure to complete all the side missions as if you don't, you will get the bad ending in doing so.
Please do cod infinite warfare, the game didn't deserve the hate it got coming from future cod bad. The game is great campaign and zombies included.
I will forever die on the Hill that Infinite Warfare is among the best of the story campaign CoD has ever had.
@@sativa-sloth6099 one of the only cods to actually make me feel something and it wasn’t even for a human.
@@rangerghost2474 we love you E3N
Campaign was definitely good. Not the best of the cods, but still a good one. Zombies was great.
Fax, the campaign was phenomenal. The final Mars charge earned its emotion and impact althroughout.
I hope to see an “everything GREAT about Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare”. It’s such an underrated game
Yes please! I love the campaign for infinite warfare
Me to
zombies there are forgotten but waw they where lit
He did it
Train go boom
@22:09 the AN-94 is a real weapon that was VERY briefly in service by Russia, it was scrapped by them after it proved to be way too expensive
God, when Woods realized that it was Mason coming to rescue him, you can almost see him shed a tear.
I love when woods describes what menendez did to him and his men. Especially the end where he progressively gets more mad talking about it, “so yeah the next time I saw him I Lost My shit, WHAT THE FUCK WOULD YOU DO!”
I can hear that quote
21:58 did you see Farid's finger twitch? His right hand, his TRIGGER finger. A subtle sign that killing the Americans stuck with him, like he's reliving the trauma of killing his friends.
Hell yeah dude! BO2 is by FAR my fav of the black ops games right next to black ops 3 hope to see you cover it soon! :3
bo3 is the second worst next to bo4
@@lb2kxx better than vanguard, BO4, and cold war and i mainly mean the zombies is why its my fav lmao
@@Yujiboygaemingid say worst (campaign wise) vanguard, mw23, and og mw2
I love Sam Worthington, his voice as mason is awesome. If it weren’t for soap he’d be my favorite cod character.
One of the best cod games made and great multiplayer and zombies, also the nightclub mission was the best.
8:18, "It's all about money nowadays."
Always was.
BAAM!!
During the ending where Menedez and Woods are doing the band concert performance you can see a moment where Mason is on the dance floor partying with Reznov, the camera will cut away for a bit and return to the two of them only to reveal Reznov is no longer there, with Mason looking around for him in confusion
+1 Win
How could you leave out woods yelling “MENENDEEEEZ” after he shot Mason
Ahhhh, sweet times.
Why the fuck did they remove such an amazing feature in new gen consoles 😔
@@freeyourmind1529 it’s because there is so much data for these games, that they can’t read it off the disk fast enough to make the games look as good as they do. So it gets put onto the actual system for faster transfer
@@joshuaedler7041thank you, finally someone understands it, it's literally a "suffering from success" example
BUT IT WAS DAMNIT! Lol one of the few CODs that I actually played alot of the multiplayer of
@@Eon233 yeah same. But im so tired of seeing the same comments in every video he makes
@@qui-gonjinn8350 i don’t blame you, tbh. What did you like about the game?
@@IamaPERSON played campaign 5 times to see all the different cutscenes and endings. Got really really bored of tranzit, so i got the zombie dlc in 2020.
And i used to grind multiplayer with my brother but you know hackers everywhere so not anymore. But if i have like 30 minutes to kill ill always replay a campaign mission. They are so fun and not too long or short.
@@qui-gonjinn8350 cool
The ending of this game was just so absurd that it's hilarious, this was one of my farvorite COD games other than the Modern Warfare trilogy..
One thing that I love is that if you spare Menendez, the music is heroic and victorious, but if you kill him, the music is somber and grim
My father looked after Jonas savimbi for a time
Fun fact: that theme you love when you shoot Mason was composed by Trent Reznor, of Nine Inch Nails fame.
I played this campaign over and over and over and over maybe 100 times as a kid. it was my favorite thing ever and I just adored fighting menendez. once I found out you didn't have to kill mason I was totally shocked.
If you get the CIA letter at the "Time and Fate" mission, you can make it a more precise assumption there is a mole at the CIA.
this game was my introduction to avenged sevenfold which is still to this day my favorite band so watching the after credits scene of them backstage brings back so many great memories
My head cannon for the A7X concert at the end is just the actors celebrating a fabulously well done film while the player is the director.
This game was my childhood, endless hours on multiplayer and zombies and hands down top 3 best cod campaigns ever. 10/10 game
RIP to Kamar de los Reyes AKA Raul Menendez
Every time savimbi yelled I retorted with
"URAAAA"
WAW and Vorkuta were stuck in my head for so long
“MENENDEZ!!!” - Some guy who wasn’t going to die in a fucking swamp!
For black ops 3 I highly recommend looking up the real meaning behind the story, it’s something that we all kinda missed
This game and black ops 1 are just some of the best cods we’ve had. Love the games, so much. The music, gunplay, everything, was perfect.
I've been waiting for this since GamingWins' video on the original Black Ops. Thank you for covering a huge chunk of my childhood.
And after 10 years and playing that campaign like..3 times, I discovered that you can burn Harper's face in this video.
That's how cool the Black Ops series was, as you said, those little moments in gameplay that are details but make it more interesting.
9:24 ‘Bosworth did it’ 💀💀💀
This was my second or third game I ever played on the PS3 and it was absolutely awesome, definitely one the most memorable cod campaigns for me
This campaign is a masterpiece. Everything in it was awesome! I loved this campaign, and I still love it.
Black Ops 2 was my first cod game ever. I had played with my friends always with the multiplayer and the endless nights playing zombies on transit and other maps. It was those moments I fully realize Video Games are fucking amazing.
I grew up on Bo2 so this brings back all kinds of nostalgia watching it! Big W
I was hoping that you would keep going with the COD series!
Impossible to believe BO2 and BO4 are in the same universe
I bought this game on pc and replayed it for the first time in 5 years still one of my top 5 favourite games of all timr
Menendez constantly quoting great intellectuals reminds me of one of Tolkien's quotes
"Evil cannot create anything new, it can only pervert what good has created."
I love it all
Probably why I also like infinite warfare’s campaign
The story of this game is just perfect
Something I wished other CODs would incorporate is choosing your own weapons for the campaign- it was such a cool feature.
22:19 I just realized this is a reversal of President Al-Fulani’s execution in COD4 - the big bad points a gun at the executioner, then twirls it and let him take it to execute a restrained character. Only now you are the executioner and not the victim.
So, one year left...I saw a lot of comments on OST videos saying it's scary how close we are to this game
When Raul said “Martyr me for cordis die” he basically said kill me for cordis die. He wanted David to kill him
I'm so happy to hear you say IW is up there with the best. The campaign is one of the more underrated ones and I always have a blast playing through it!
The music in the Mason reveal is the bo2 main theme, the best main theme I've heard ever, which fits the game perfectly, calm beginning then suffering then, resolve? Maybe
This is no doubt my favourite call of duty but an unpopular opinion is I really enjoyed Bo3, they deviated from what we expect in a black ops and I enjoyed it
Also Behind Lev Kravchenko, DeFalco is one of the best Right Hand man in the anatgonist side of the Call of Duty Series.
