  • Fitting Plywood to the back doors and sliding door was no easy task, however after many hours we came up with a really easy method of doing this.
    As usual things take a lot longer than expected, We are so pleased with how our doors turned out. It would have taken us even longer if it wasn’t for Dave, and Andrea who actually came up with the idea of drawing around the rubber seal!!

    Hi doing the back door and sliding doors as well with ply. Will look into 3.6mm ply (originally 6mm) thx. Did u guys simply tap screw into the metal? This was the missing puzzle

    • @OurWildHorizons
      @OurWildHorizons  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HI! Thank you for watching! We drilled a little pilot hole into the metal first (smaller hole) to help the screw go in :)

    Great advice! I'm wondering what you did with the pillars next to the rear doors, did you insulate those at all, and it looks like you just painted directly on to the metal?

    • @OurWildHorizons
      @OurWildHorizons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, we used metal paint to paint it white. Directly onto the red paint but we did sand the red paint down a bit beforehand. As for the pillars, we put some leftover recycled bottle insulation in there but not much and we may add it in if it gets too cold but it's been fine without so far. (We didn't want to buy another whole roll of insulation just for those little bits) Thank you for watching!

    What paint did you use for the plywood? And do you find it durable and not rubbing off? Thanks!

    • @OurWildHorizons
      @OurWildHorizons  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We first used wood primer paint and then used emulsion paint which has been find but marks quite easily but we're painting it all again with white satin paint to make it easier to wipe clean if needed :) Thanks for watching!

    What thickness was the plywood?

      I know this comment was a long time ago but we used 3.6mm ☺️

  • @xaresv

    do you screw the wood directly to the metal door?? doesn't it make holes that way?

    • @OurWildHorizons
      @OurWildHorizons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we did. I suppose you could sikaflex it instead though if you didn't want to screw into the meta? Since it was only in the back doors we didn't mind doing it. Especially since that was how the original panels were screwed in. It hasn't been an issue for us though this past year :) Just the odd tightening of screws every now and then.

      @@OurWildHorizons yes, just curious, im learning how to do it myself. Can you see the screws from the outside?

    • @OurWildHorizons
      @OurWildHorizons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Noo, we only screwed into where there was a hollow area in the metal, so nothing poking through the van exterior!
