    Very interesting and informative, thank you. Great job. It might be worth mentioning that a "stop" on your drill bit would be a really good idea, even if it is a simple bit of plastic tubing. It's surprising how the bit suddenly goes through the pillar steel and can then dent or even puncture your beautiful outer van walls.

      Not heard of that before! That would have taken some fear out of the build! Will definitely get one of them if there’s a next build... 😊

    the van is coming along well, one thing to bear in mind, T&G does expand and contract quite a lot so you may end up having to put some more finish on the joints, this happened to Mel on Mel's Van world, but your ceiling looks great, I can't wait to see how will look once it is finished.

    • @OurWildHorizons
      @OurWildHorizons  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah yes, we realised this afterwards! oops! So we will be sure to do this when we make our T&G cupboard doors :) Thank you or the advice xx

    Hey guys, thanks for the brilliant video, I have one question though...Jake said you used 9mm battens but then you put an astrix over saying it was 12mm, however, your written out version of this says 9mm....just wondering, which one was it?:) x

    • @OurWildHorizons
      @OurWildHorizons  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We mean 12mm, thanks for pointing out the mistakes in the post! You could probably use 9mm but 12mm would be better as it gives the screws a bit more to bite into. Going thicker would also be good, but we were very conscious of maximising the height space.

  • @blakerayeley
    @blakerayeley 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good job! What screws did you use to tack them up there?

    • @OurWildHorizons
      @OurWildHorizons  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We used stainless steel screws for any exposed screws. The ones in the ceiling were then varnished over and they blend in quite nicely to the cladding. Thanks for watching!

    • @OurWildHorizons
      @OurWildHorizons  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly it was just the cheap stuff at b&q, I think it's 7 or 9mm. We just took care while installing it and the stain makes it look so much nicer :)

    What size screws did you use to screw the tongue and groove up?

    • @OurWildHorizons
      @OurWildHorizons  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can’t remember now! Nothing too long, just make sure they’re stainless steel screws so they won’t rust.

  • @Shan-ShanH
    @Shan-ShanH 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don’t understand how you screwed them into the thin sheet of metal that is your van. Because there’s nothing for the screw to screw into it’s just one thin piece of metal. So how did your screws stay?

    • @OurWildHorizons
      @OurWildHorizons  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So first you’ll need to drill a pilot hole. Make sure this hole is much smaller than the screw you are going to use. (self tapping screw). Then screw into the tiny hole by hand using a screw driver 😁 it’s very difficult to do it by hand and takes a long time, but it will be very secure. Hope this helps
