Is there a metal washer or shim that goes on before the vacuum seal?
Nice video. On the official tool, is it built so that that it limits how far on you can drive the seal (axle shaft hits the end of the tube) or do you have to make a judgment for the right depth? Also, does the inner axle tube seal sit flush with the axle tube or do you have to line it back up when sliding the axle shaft back in? I don't want to punch that inner seal into the dif haha.
The official tool bottoms out on the shaft so that the seal is set to the right depth. As far as the inner tube seal goes, I am a little confused on your question. Hey I see you never did answer your question about the seal death did you ever get a measurement?
I can't recommend using the makeshift tools. For my part, I destroyed two seals I bought from these guys using the makeshift tool. Those vacuum seals are very tight toleranced and very hard to get on. Just buy the tool. It won't move around as much and will be a tight fit as it should be. You'll end up pressing it on skewed which will destroy the seal.
Hi😊 I have a 2000 excursion 7.3 powerstroke. Is there a seal in the hole, where you put in the axle in the car. Or is it only 2 seals on this car. A dust seal on the axle and a hub vacum seal? Thanks😊
There is a vacuum seal, dust seal and an inner tube seal. The inner tube seal keep the oil in the center section (differential) of the axle.

What if you press the vacuum seal a little too far? Is that a major issue and apply too much pressure on the seal when you set it back in the steering hub?

Where can I get the metal dust shield that goes behind the vacuum seal between the CV axle and the vacuum seal!
That is a ford only item.

The seal will be fine without it. Some trucks came from the factory with it and some came without it. @@unidad085

Yes you probably could if you had one that opened up far enough.
