Install: SKF inner axle seal (new design)

The newly designed SKF inner axle seal (16510) requires a different installation procedure from the previous seal. The new, more robust, seal installs directly into the axle tube as opposed to on the axle shaft.

Thats really the outer axle dust shield and not the inner axle oil seal.

There's a cone in the axle tube that aids in inserting the axle into the side gear in the carrier.
As long as this plastic cone is intact, you done need to try and lift the axle shaft to get it into the diff.

These seals by design are a disaster, the rubber seal spins inside itself. To install the axel shaft, you do need plenty of grease on the rubber in order to slide it in and seat without tearing the rubber. They don't last the winter season with constant 4x4 engaged.
