    As usual, a lot of good tips! Something else that I added this last European cruise that I went on a copule of weeks ago was a clothes line. It was a 9-night cruise with pre and post hotels, so it was hard to pack for so many days and my friend and I decided to do some laundry and wear again some pieces. We packed traveling Tide sink pouches and the clothes line from Amazon that even brought the clothes pins attached. We put it on the wall using the magnetic hooks and that was perfect. Of course we hanged the pieces of clothing on the shower and waited till they were not dripping water not to damage the carpet. We learn new things every day!

    We had our 1st cruise there was a big storm with gale force winds and the temp went in F from 85,down to 64, 67, 72. then back up over 80. We had packed very light wind breakers at any rate in case it was windy at night and cooler on deck. On our first tender after the storm, when we wore the jackets, someone asked us if we were from Canada, and when we said yes, their comment was "I don't know anyone but a Canadian who would bring a jacket on a cruise going south of Florida."

    Thanks for all the travel tips. I do use packing cubes and swear by them. I take the cubes out of the suitcase and put it right in the drawers. That way you can organize your drawers without the contents actually touching the drawers. Makes for great organizing and you can see what you need. I always bring light weight bedroom slippers. I do not want to walk on those sandy carpets. Another thing I do is pack my evening clothes on a hanger and pack that right into my suitcase. That way it is much quicker to unpack and everything is already on a hanger. I do a lot of online buying and those plastic bags that garments come in are great for shoes. I do not want my shoes touching my clothing. As far as my toiletries go, I will bring full size especially body wash. But I usually bring toiletries that are almost empty. That way I have enough to get me through my cruise and I can throw the containers away when they are used up. Makes a lot of space for souvenirs. All this fits in a hard side 20 inch suitcase along with a soft side carry on. It can be done.😊😊😊😊

    I tend to start planning my wardrobe when trying to get to sleep. This tends to cause many sleepless nights🤪. I learned the hard way about carrying a few items to wear when one time my luggage didn’t arrive for few days. I had to wear some of my hubby’s underwear and cargo shorts. I’m hoping to be offered a Level 8 suitcase to do a video on too. I always use cross-body bags on cruises. Feel safer with them. Even though we are avid cruisers, I still learn something watching your videos. TFS

    I just started using packing cubes and I am totally converted! They are awesome and I was surprised hiw much I could get in them. Also I wouldn't put any liquids in the shoes. They could leak and your shoes and socks will be wet or possibly unusable depending on what was in there. Also TSA may want to check it out and that would be a pain to unpack. Thanks for all the tips! I like the shoes tip about them matching at least 2-3 outfits. I am a notorious shoe overpacker and I will use that tip lol

    One thing about magnets.. I’m sure most cruise cabins are fine, but I was just on HAL’s Zaandam last month, and the walls are covered in something (really thick wallpaper?) that prevented magnets from sticking. Well, they stuck, but if you put anything heavier than a post-it note, they would slide down the wall.
    The cabin door was the same. We had to put the magnets on the door frame instead.
    I will say the bathroom door worked great. I put my heavy duty magnets on there for clothes and towels and they worked. But the rest of the walls in the room did not work.

    • @deniserickergasz4658
      @deniserickergasz4658 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @lokicooper4690, next time that happens, try hanging your magnetic hooks from the ceiling. They’re metal and usually low enough to reach.

    • @lokicooper4690
      @lokicooper4690 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@deniserickergasz4658 We thought of that, but the ceilings were definitely too high for me (without standing on the bed). Fortunately, we did have 4 hooks on the walls that we put jackets and bulkier clothing on. I was just surprised the magnets didn’t work on the walls considering the number of people who’ve said it works. We have another cruise (on NCL this time) next year. I’ll see how their walls are. 😉

      @@reillydog11 I was actually using the 100 lb magnets. Don’t know what kind of wallpaper/covering in the wall, but the magnets were useless on them. Like I said, fortunately, we had 4 hooks attached to the wall in our room, which helped. I just put the magnets on the bathroom door. 😁
      I will bring them again on our trip to Iceland on NCL and see if they work there.

    I just took a 7-day cruise to Alaska with 3 days before and 1 after in Seattle. An elderly relative traveling with us has continence issues, so we purchased an unlimited laundry package for $59. It was worth every penny- it allowed us to pack far fewer clothes and go home with almost no dirty laundry. In order to save on airline luggage fees, we ordered a case of her adult diapers and had it shipped to us at our hotel rather than packing them in a suitcase. At embarkation we just attached a luggage tag to the unopened box with packing tape. We also ordered toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, and hairspray to save space in our luggage and to avoid carrying liquids through TSA. The manager at our hotel said that they have no problem with guests having items delivered to them.

      Me too. Ilana is a ray of sunshine! So many of her suggestions can be used for other travels besides cruising. Some of my favorites that I have used for all my travels are the soap bags that don’t make your soap bars all mushy and the motion activated nightlight. And strong magnetic hooks were a game changer while cruising, and I use them at home on the side of the dryer and deep freezer for reusable grocery bags and soft plastics recycling.

    I really love your videos! They have been extremely helpful. One of the things I’ve started to do is leave my hanging clothes on a very slim nonslip hanger. They take up a lot less room than the ones that come on the ship, so I am able to hang more. I usually can get a pack of 50 at Costco for about $12. When I get to the cabin I just take my clothes right out of the suitcase and hang them straight in the closet.

    Love using my Beis luggage, bags, and cubes especially for longer trips. They fit so much for all the options I bring cause I refuse to underpack. These days, I feel it’s really the packing techniques and the actual items brought that can make it easier or harder which of course depends on various factors. Last Caribbean cruise all the friends we made were shocked I was able to basically have a different outfit for each of the 11 nights in just 1 big checked luggage, 1 carry-on luggage, and a backpack.

    Years ago I found a book “how to pack”. It discussed packing for different occasions. I found it before I spent a year in Europe with Girl Guides and packing in one adventure hiking back pack.
    Your packing/what to bring and guide have helped me as I’ve started cruising again for the first time since I was a teen. A couple tips from it I still think about when packing.
    Iron clothes before packing them, even tshirts, can take up less room.
    Take items you don’t plan on bringing back with you. This allows for more space for souvenirs.
    Last one my family uses different versions of, bottles of alcohol in socks or other similar tubes of clothing means you know for sure they are surrounded completely. Mum used her square dance crinoline in an old sleeve on the way there, the bottle of rum in it as well on the way home. Surprised the customs agent when he pulled it out and went poof.

    We are heading to Florida in November for a 14 night Transatlantic cruise, so we will have warm (ish?) weather in Florida, and perhaps a couple more days, then cool weather and very probably rainy weather closer to Europe. Probably not the cruise to cut back on my packing, but that is my plan! I can't remember how many cruises I've returned from and unpacked clothes I haven't worn. With a total of 8 sea days, (and a free bag of laundry this time!), I'm going to make it easy on myself! Using your packing cubes, and other ideas I gleaned from your channel. Thanks!

    I'm going on a long (three-week, Panama Canal) solo cruise this October, and have my luggage planned out pretty well, already. Contents of both free checked large soft sided suitcases will be protected by enclosing all packed items in thin garbage bags. NCL only allows two checked bags, so I'll be stuck with a carry-on, and personal item, until I can unpack in my cabin. I plan to bring some of that spray stuff to take out wrinkles, along with a different spray thingy to allow me to get two days out of T-shirts. I "may" be able to get through the 21 days without having to pay $35 to get a small bag washed onboard. (I'll try to sink wash some items)

    Our last cruise was 10 nights (and it's probably easier for guys). 2pairs of navy shorts. 10 green/red/purple Ts. 1 pair of black dockers (hard to get dirty). 3 polos. 3 Hawaiian shirts. 10 pairs of socks. One pair of pool shoes and slides. 10pairs of undies. 10pairs of socks. I pair jammie shorts. One big brimmed, mooshable hat. I wear on the plane another T, jeans, sneakers and a lightweight sweatshirt tied around my waist. One sock, one T and one undie in my carry-on.
    IF you're not into designer soap and shampoo, hotels and cruise ships provide them.

There was a port stop scheduled EVERY DAY! So for 10 port days, that's automatically 10 socks. I have Ts that coordinate under the Hawaiians. That T becomes the T of next day. Dark colored shorts that won't show dirt. I really had one too many polos. Upcoming is 15 nights but fewer port days - 7 - so only 7 socks. And I can prob get away with 12 Ts.

    I use one packing cube for underwear, one for T shirts , one for shorts / pants etc. my dresses are on hangers and packed on the hangers so when I get in my cabin I literally just grab the hangers and hang what is on them and then just grab each packing cube and place it in a draw. I’m unpacked in 5 mins , I know where everything is in their packing cube - I unzip them to store in the draws in the cabin so I can see at a glance what cube contains what . Yes I know there are hangers in the cabin but when I pack to leave it takes only 5 mins to pack as well I just grab the clothes on the hangers then the packing cubes on top, zip the bag up and I’m done.

    My husband bundles (and overpacks every time!) and I roll and use packing cubes. On a recent trip to Spain, he insisted on folding and bundling the dirty laundry because he claimed he could save space. I said, "Sure! Have at it!" He spent about 1 hour carefully folding all the dirty underwear with smelly socks and filthy jeans while I watched Spanish TV and ate churros con chocolate in bed. He saved about .5 inches in space... That's a hill he will die on!

    I am doing an Alaskan cruise at the end of a two month trip to Canada. So I will have from the end of July, all August and then September with the cruise starting mid month. Packing is going to be a nightmare!

    Going to Alaska in mid October on NCL. I have arthritis in my knees. I know I can not take a heating pad. But do you know if usb charged hand warmers are?

      You may want to check with NCL ahead of time if they would have a heating pad on board that you could use due to your medical issue.

      I sail only on Princess and I've never had my heating pad taken from my luggage. I attach a note to it explaining my situation (two major back surgeries and I use a scooter), but my luggage is never even opened. I put a zip-tie on my luggage which has to be cut off so that I can tell if someone has been in my luggage. Good luck.

    FYI: Cunard does not allow you to bring any items with a heating element, which would include hair dryers, curling irons, etc.

      It’s actually listed under exceptions on their website. I just checked to be sure :)
