Hi I love your videos. Were going to be on the Ruby Princess and I’m wondering if I have to do anything special for my CPAP machine or bring something for the CPAP machine?I hope you can help me. Thank you
@@lindamccrystle4875 It's best to call the cruise line or travel agent, so they can potentially provide you with an extension cord & order distilled water. Bringing it on as a carry on is typically suggested 🙂
One of the better things we learned came from this site was her recommendation for the magnetic hooks (great for putting up laundry line, hat's or numerous other things that fit better hanging on the wall instead of lying around in the cabin & the battery operated, motion detecting night light. REALLY helps if you an older cruiser that gets up often in the night to go to the bathroom. Love this lady's videos and her enthusiasm.
@@user-di6dd2xd7p so glad the tips & videos have been helpful! I appreciate you watching :)
I also carry a small first aid kit in my carryon. We do decorate our door with a sign, "Home is where the Anchor drops". I also always bring 220v adapter plugs to be able to use all available outlets.
Good idea!!
I have started decorating my door. Not only is it easier for me to find my room, but neighbors said it helps them too! 😂
@@debbief2882 haha I’d love a neighbour like you 😂
It depends on the cruise line. Sadly I can’t do this this year 😔
I did on our first cruise. Our kids loved the decor! I made a cute cruise ship design, printed, laminated and added magnets in the back. Super simple and took virtually no space in the bag!
@@cecilias.1644 NCL doesn’t allow it, sadly
@@Kidcomeback92 yeah I learned about that when I had my cruise with them last year. Something about them being a potential fire hazard 🔥. Which I really don't know how to feel about that. Seems pretty stupid to me, but again you never know. And maybe they really did have an instance where door decorations have caught on fire hence why they are banned now 🤷♀️.
I definitely bring a stainless still bottle with me. I only drink water, so mine has a filter as well, because you just never know.
Make sure to have sunscreen on embarkation day. You can get roasted out in the sun.
Comfortable shoes, ton of walking.
Always pack your patience. Things happen, but your on vacation. Try to stay calm.
I also always bring my stainless steel water bottle with me on cruises. Mine however doesn't have a filter in it though. My mom always buys the pack of water for the room so I just use that water to fill up.
I'll be taking my first ever cruise in March 2025 and am finding your videos helpful and encouraging .
@@joannsmith7185 great cruise to look forward to! If there are questions I can answer in future videos please let me know
@LifeWellCruised I'm going to the western Caribbean with ports if call being Progresso, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Reagan, and Grand Cayman. I have some but not major mobility issues, and I am more interested in shopping and Beaching. Tips?
@@joannsmith7185 I have some mobility issues, too. Planning on taking either a cane-stool or a walker with a seat
Protect other items from the magnets in your luggage. Compacted foam or bubble wrap will do the trick.
My wife always puts some decorations on the door so I can find the room stumbling back to the room at night!
I went on a solo cruise and decorated the inside of my cabin with turtles and such.😊
@@katrinafarrar5816 awe cute!
My wife and I have been on several other cruises and have our 2nd Alaska cruise coming up next month! It's been 6 years since our last cruise so, we set out to find updated information. Your TH-cam Channel IS GREAT! Each video is so well thought out, presented well and packed with information. Not just for new cruisers, but for "seasoned" cruisers like us! THANK YOU! Best TH-cam Channel Around!
My last six cruises ave been during near the Christmas holiday season. The cruise ship s decorated and I bring my decorations for my cruise cabin door! I like hanging a tiny Christmas stocking with candy canes and a sign that says help yourself and they do! I refill as they get low, and one person left a rubber duck in stocking, I thought that was nice. Decorating the cabin doors also helps us in locating our room easier! Thanks for sharing the tips! 🛳🛳
I always take a tumbler and insulated travel mug so I can fill those up with coffee, iced tea, or water when I want to hang out on deck and read. Those little plastic cups don't hold much and since I do get the drink package, I need to hydrate. 😊
So do I
Ive always wondered if i could use an insulated mug for coffee on board. Can we use one for the coffee from cafe promanade on RC??
We take flat magnetic pictures which take almost no space. The door decorations are helpful in quickly identifying our room and even more so when looking for rooms of others in our party. Our last cruise we had people on three different levels. Some up front, others in the middle and some in he back. My sister had bought each oh us a matching cruise picture, this made it so easy to find others room, without having to remember their room number. Funny story on an earlier cruise our grandson needed to use the bathroom really bad, so running up to what he thought was his room he began knocking on the door for his brother to let him in, instead of his brother an older woman opened the door, quite confused at seeing him. He was so embarrassed and said he was sorry he had the wrong door and then turned and ran down the hall. Door Decorations can help saving you from an embarrassing situation.
@@NadineSmith-ez1jm haha good point 😂
Ilana, I love your channel. We’re going on our first cruise in August. I’ve been watching your videos for about 6 months. Very informative. I’ve watched other cruise channels but I always come back to Life Well Cruised. Looking forward to our trip.
@@purplebee14 that’s awesome! What cruise will you be going on?
love to set up my cabin as well. Once I get in my cabin, I love to unpack if the luggage is there and get settled for relaxation. One thing to bring is the battery powered alarm clock. This was a life saver when cruising to Hawaii and all the time changes.
@@CindyHelenWolfe smart!! I often forget about that but it is very convenient
We decorated our door last trip. It was a lot of fun! The grandsons wrote questions and people answered, like vanilla or chocolate ice cream.
@@junedunne love that!! So fun
I think decorating your door is fun, especially for those special occasions
I love that you are allowed to bring 1 bottle of wine per adult in the state room but it must be 750 ml and less then 15% ABV. I was not aware of the ABV, it’s a good FYI for your subscribers 😉
All medications are in my carry-on, along with a change or 2 of clothes.
We have started decorating our door, and a few flat magnets take up very little space. It's always fun looking at others' fancy doors.
I now carry 3m command strips to decorate my door. MDC Seaside doors are not magnetic. Had to put my magnet inside the room.

I just purchased collapsible water bottles from Amazon. Fold down to about 3inches square they have a large opening so you can add ice and water also a small cap to drink from. We are trying them for the fist time in March when we go on a 21 day cruise on NCL our 14th cruise. I always carry on our meds and electronic items in my purse if I don't take a carry on bag.
Always bring the Yeti! I love keeping my drink cold while at the pool.
@@michellnav I’m going to have to get one
@@LifeWellCruised You won't regret it & they come in so many different sizes.
We do bring door decorations to decorate the door. It's fun, and it makes it easier to spot the cabin we're staying in as we walk down the corridor.
I bring two magnetic large roll up boards for my door, The markers are also magnetic. The first thing I write on it: Hi from Brewster, NY. I love seeing what people respond from where they are from. Our last European cruise, had people from all over the world responding.
This looks like a great piece of luggage! The only issue that I would have is that the front compartment takes up space in the luggage so it takes up space that I could use for packing. That's why we usually carry a backpack for the computer, documents, meds and other things needed. That way I can carry a backpack and drop the luggage off before boarding. I also like to keep things separated like my passport from my money because if you lose one you wouldn't be losing them both. I also spilt up my money into a couple of different locations for the same reason. Then once we're on the ship it all gets locked up in the safe! At some debarkation ports might take your unsuppressed outlet if it has a cord on it. Cruise lines would rather have you carry a USB Hub instead for your electronics. If you need extra outlets then a cube would be the way to go. We do decorate our cabin door and we also decorate the inside of the cabin to give it a cheerier feeling! The ones that glow in the dark stay lit for most of the night. I bring an R-tic 40 oz water bottle. I like to put ice in it to keep water cold for during the night! We have taken other tumblers and never used them so we don't bring them any more. Magnets are a must! They make things easier to organize and when they are on the wall you can't miss them!
I,agree with splitting up ID and money- as they say, don’t put all your eggs in one basket
Hi Yes I do decorate my door for easy to finder also maybe sound weird but I do take always a safety alarm key chain weird stuff happened lately lol, Love your videos ❤
@@volmarmargie7830 that’s smart, not a bad idea :)
I ALWAYS pack my Swiss Army Multi-Tool Tinker knife. Cruise lines prohibit knives with blades longer than 2.5” (6.35cm) or 0.5” (1.25cm) at their widest point. The blade on a Swiss Army knife is usually smaller than these dimensions. A Leatherman has a blade that is longer than 2.5” & therefore prohibited. I also pack a miniature Multi-Tool that has a blade smaller than what is prohibited. Check the “Prohibited Items” list for the cruise line.
I also pack a small one. Mine has the cork screw attachment so it solves opening the wine my wife packs 😂
I love decorating my door due to it’s easy to find later on, I do bring my yeti to get coffee and water bottles to stay hydrated 😊
@@DsnyLuv awesome 👏
I took a magnetic dry erase board on my last cruise since we were traveling with another couple. We were able to leave messages for each other, but even better, our neighbors started leaving cute messages too. The board filled up quickly and I really wish I would have thought to take pictures of the board before I had to erase them to make more room.
I love your videos. Cruising on NCL in December. 🎉 This is very helpful.
Ilana, thank you so much for posting all of your videos. I feel I have learned a lot from you and have a good idea of the dos and don'ts when it comes to cruising.
Although my first ever cruise has been delayed till 2025 due to a broken leg, 1st incident, and a broken wrist which required corrective surgery, a 2nd incident, and loss of 18 weeks of work, I am unable to financially afford to cruise this year.
I feel very confident about beginning my cruise bucket list next year though and that is primarily because I found you and your channel about a year ago.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, ideas, opinions, and experiences, I appreciate everything you, your husband and son do.
Blessings and Peace
Wishing you well & and full recovery ❤
@@LifeWellCruised Thank you, ❤️
I bring towel clips or chair bands in case I go to the pool.
I use dry erase markers on the room mirror.
I absolutely decorate my door! I do other things as well, as "Daily Dad Jokes" or "What day is it?" (National and world celebration days). I never bring anything in my carry-on though. But, I fully unpack day one, so it's up before dinner 😊
I do bring a yeti tumbler for my poolside drinks. Pouring my iced or frozen bar drinks into it, keeps them nice and cool longer and also keeps them from becoming watered down.
I always bring my book and glasses!
I now carry 3m Command Strips to put up my door decorations. MSC Seaside doors are not magnetic. I placed the magnet inside the cabin.
I ALWAYS carry an insulated water bottle on all trips. I drink water all day long and I like it to be cold. I bring it with me on excursions as well. It’s a necessity for me 😀
Yes, I bring my tumbler on cruises, and all travel. I love my Takeya from Target. Keeps everything cold all day long. ❤
I travel everywhere with my Yeti mug… it is invaluable.
I am an avid iced tea consumer, but I don't want the caffeinated tea they have on the ship. So I always take one large mouthed plastic and my own cold brew decaf bags and make my iced tea in my cabin.
`I have always had a small surge protector in my luggage and have never had problem.
My mom bought one kislux and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
A lunch box sized cooler is an absolute must when you have medication such as insulin that must be kept cold!
Your comments and videos are SO helpful. We cruised on Carnival Radiance last week the magnetic hooks were great on the back of the door for our lanyards and hats. They did not work well on the walls-slightly stuck but not enough to support even a lanyard. The magnetic clips did not stick at all on Radiance walls.
Thanks for all the ideas, I have them most useful on many of my cruises. I bring door decoration as well to know where Im staying. Im trying to learn how to pack just the essentials like you do. My first cruise to Alaska from Seattle so Im hoping I can manage with the bear minimum.
We're going on our first cruise from Seattle to Alaska at the end of August. RC
Thank You for all the information.
We started decorating our door on the last cruise. We love our magnetic hooks! I like to wipe things down too!
I bring a pack of disinfectant wipes in my hand luggage too. Andsince I do a pretty through wipe down of all touch-surfaces (don’t know if the previous people had flu, Covid, Noro and you know how fast the cabins need to be flipped!), I also now bring a disposable glove for the wipe down. More than once my hands have gotten chaffed and sore from the cleaning, and with all the handwashing on board, they stay rough for days. The antibacterial Fabreeze is in my checked bag -ha ha
love your blue and white dress. been watching many of your videos- very helpful, practical and informative!
I had been looking at carry-on's, and from your comments previously and others, I was looking at Level 8 and Monos. In both cases (pun intended?) looking at the reviews - 1, 2, and 3 star... and even the negative comments in 4 stars (why the didn't give it 5 stars) - I was just at the many comments about seams ripping, bags denting on first trip, handles not opening or closing fully after few trips, the limitation of space to specific handle placement. and many adding how inadequate customer service was. One comment referred to the Grace metal corner shields as not being metal. Now I know that looking at reviews can skew perspectives on wither end of the star rating, but I also noticed a couple of people saying that they gave the luggage 5 stars when they got it because it looked great, rolled well and packed easily, but with the problems they had on a first trip (scratches, dents, not being allowed to carry on because the carryon limits have really tightened up and that half to one inch difference made the carryon a checked bag (or the person with the expandable who didn't realize that would disallow his carry on by no longer fitting in the boxes. I am back to not knowing what to get, LOL.
1. Medications, including OTC
2. Sunglasses, sunscreen
3. iPhone + chargers, AirPods + charger
4. Cash

Many of your suggestions are common sense although easily missed or forgotten. I keep a packing list with a separate section for carry on and tick each item as it goes into my rucksack. The carry-on is more complex if a few of you are travelling together and you want to minimise the number of carry-ons you have with you so I understand your use of the case. I travel alone and use the same cruise line each time so my transportation to and from the port is included; I don’t touch my luggage after it goes into the vehicle until it arrives in my cabin. Although it is not expected, I do take cash with me to tip the driver(s) if service has been good. Ditto for stateroom attendants if service has been especially good. (Gratuities are included). I do take a water bottle which I can refill, as the cruise line places refill water containers in the cabin every day. I do also take my two medication containers taking a week’s worth of pills - just playing safe. Basically, if anything can’t fit in my rucksack, it goes into my main suitcase - my iPad is a priority . I giggled at some of your suggestions though. Swimwear for after boarding? Not out of a UK port that’s for sure unless one is particularly hardy and especially not for a Northern Lights cruise in February! Door decorations? Eeeeeeeeeeeh Godds. I’ve never seen any on my chosen line’s ships except to celebrate special occasions; I think these are tolerated but not approved of. I wonder if this a cultural thing as they seem to be common on US based ships.
Wow! Hi I'm getting ready for my first cruise and actually have CBD gummies set aside for when my bad knee bothers me. Disappointing as I do not use the toxic over-the-counter painkillers
Ilana. As a UK citizen taking my first ever cruise, you say about tipping the porter. This is not something we do often in the UK. For a 7 day Caribbean cruise, what sort of level of small cash would you recon I should bring? What level of tip for the taxi, porter, etc. A total would be of use so I can exchange that amount of money.
