15:54 this position is very common in the breaking bad universe. Gus forced to look at his partner dead, Walter falling over to look at Hank as a result of his decisions, and Saul's combination of the two, he's bounded and forced to look at his actions.
They’re all forced to look at their actions. Gus disrespecting Don Elasio resulted in Max’s death. Walter’s meth empire resulted in Hank’s death. Saul’s actions resulted in Howard’s death.
I agree. The only thing I predicted was Howard becoming a cartel victim inadvertently somehow because of the feud Jimmy and Kim waged upon him, and I only predicted it because Howard was the only moral character. This series is every bit as great as BrBa.
It’s too unrealistic. There’s no way anyone would trade 7 years for 70 or whatever it is. I get the whole come to Jesus moment but cmon, you have to be a sucker to believe it and if he really did that he would probably off himself once the original sentence elapsed and he was still stuck in prison. Now if they showed that I would’ve bought it 😂
As a good comparison, Jimmy throwing away his cushy plea deal for 86 years is similar to what he did in season 3 to save Irene Landry from being rejected by her elder friends. He took the hit for the greater good.
I bet Nippy would have been widely accepted if Nippy was the first episode of the season. Having the previously Gene cold opens be expanded to whole episodes would feel amazing, compared to being placed towards the end of the season when it will be followed by another gene episode.
probably, but the huge cliffhanger of the season finale prolly was a strong incentive to start the way they did. woulda been kinda badass to have nippy be E1 not E10 doe
The finale was perfect IMO. Life without Kim had been no life for him, so he’d rather have her in his life even if it meant the extra years. Plus Peter has said he thinks Jimmy and Kim will get to work on that and that he ultimately will get out early. 1 of the all time great shows and the best show this year.
I genuinely was dissapointed when Saul started to confess. BUT the very he said ”Walter White couldn’t have done it without me” I was actually proud. Proud over him finally being HONEST, proud that he loudly come to terms over the issues that was plaguing him over the shows runtime. This show man, after 607 I felt terrible for days, I was so proud over a TV character that I forgot that he was one
I personally think the bus scene is great, prisoners will find any excuse to be loud, so they just start chanting it, I really like it too, it's funny and in a way, I kinda feel that smile Jimmy gives as the chant goes kinda gives this idea that he's still, deep down, happy of everything he was able of doing.
I just realized something about the Gus bar scene. I think maybe in this scene, Gus is also sort of appreciating or understanding how defensive Nacho was about his dad, and just in general the compassion Mike was showing Nacho as well. In his moment of incredible stress with Lalo, he really was willing to threaten and kill this civilian in order to get his way, but now that things have wound down, and has a moment to appreciate another human being again, he's starting to understand that perspective a little bit more again, realizing that he'll likely be in the same position if he tries to form a relationship with the bartender. And I think that would lead Gus into just in general not being AS much of a hard-ass in Breaking Bad, at least in the beginning. The guy who understands Walt's motivations for getting his money, to tell Mike back at him that fear isn't a good motivator. Of course that only lasts until his buttons start being pushed again with how much Walt and Jesse set him back, and with the Cartel harassing him. I don't know, could be a stretch but to me it helps link BCS and BB in that Gus does have a bit of a change, even if it's not as drastic as some of the other characters
I just rewatched BB, and Gus saying fear isn’t a good motivator confused me a bit because of everything that went down with Nacho, but your comment honestly helped it make a little more sense! Thanks :)
@@georgeforeman7621 I think the common consensus in the fanbase is that the fact that Nacho had Gus' fate in his hands the whole time they were doing his questioning, even Nacho giving Gus some threatening glances, made him realize that fear is indeed a very dangerous way to get someone to do your bidding, as he had no love or loyalty to Gus and perhaps thought he could throw him under the bus. But yeah this thought I had kinda compliments that thought process as well
2:59:29 god thats such a good line, its sad he goes to jail but watching the 3 protagonists having very different fates is just so beatiful and poetic, BCS truly is peak fiction
The hand that someone puts on Kim as she's crying on the bus was a masterful touch. It's supposed to be a moment of comfort but it probably just makes Kim feel even more guilty.
Fun fact: That hand belonged to a teacher at Walt’s school! She stood next to him during the plane crash school assembly. I’m covering this in an upcoming video!
I love the Gus at the bar scene and how they did not back away from the idea of Gus' sexuality clashing with the themes that define his character. A lot of hardcore "sigma males" love to deny Gus' sexuality, but so much of that scene is Gus looking at the bartender and entertaining the idea of a life and of a love with him. Also, the way that the bartender describes that the wine has an ever slight taste of blood is reaffirmed when Gus finishes the glass before leaving - deciding that both the only thing a relationship would bring is blood and that revenge will always be more important than it. That scene was really incredibly and probably is one of my favorites in the series for all of the subtext and unspoken meaning that it has.Absolutely adore these retrospectives, would love to see these for Breaking Bad if it is something you would enjoy making.
I'm very alpha male type and been a fan of the series since 2008 when it began and I always liked to see Gus as a gay character because it makes his entire motivation so much better and it makes him so unique and refined yet evil and soulless.

In regards to Jimmy getting 86 years, I think there's an important line of dialouge when Jimmy says "With good behavior, who knows?" It seems like a joke but I think that it's implying that Jimmy knows he could find a way to maneuver the system to get out of jail eventually if he really wanted to. Even if it wasn't intended that way I think we all know Jimmy is more than capable of that regardless. Not saying he'll get out in seven years but I think there's still reason enough to believe that he "has a shot of seeing daylight in his old age." @@Shcxir nah, it's refering to slip and falls being Jimmy's original con. Going back to his roots and that Jeff actually slips and falls during the heist
I think it's kinda of ironic that in order for Jimmy to be safe in jail he actually has to become Saul again maybe not in his actions but he at least has to answer to and acknowledge himself being Saul.
And I guess when you think about it, he may not have gotten along nearly as well with the inmates at the cushy prison he was originally going to go to, as no matter where he went he would inevitably be seen as Saul instead of James/Jimmy. Over there he'd probably be around more white-collar and other upper-class criminals who would be more inclined to look down on him. The prison he's going to instead is full of the kind of people he catered to as Saul, and to them he's a hero of sorts. He may be serving functionally a life sentence, but the prosecutors may have unintentionally handed him the more comfortable prison life when comparing the two.
I actually have a slightly different perspective on what the cigarette being in colour means. A lot of people I've seen talk about it symbolizing that there's still a spark between them. And maybe that is what they were going for, idk. But I've always interpreted it differently. The way I see it, the use of colour in the Gene timeline in "Better Call Saul" has always symbolized one thing: Gene looking back at his glory days. In the first episode Gene's bleak and grey life is interrupted by him looking at his Saul commercial. The colour symbolizing that those were his glory days. Those were the days he wishes more than anything he could go back to. His wealth and power and fame as Saul. However, throughout BCS we've come to understand that Saul was a mask to hide pain more than anything. The wealth and the power and the fame were all empty. Coping mechanisms for trauma. And I think after he got caught and after his trial Jimmy realized this too and began to be honest with himself. And so what appears in colour now is the cigarette with Kim. Because his glory days weren't Saul, his glory days were all the days he spent with Kim. He wishes more than anything that he could go back to those days of them being together, smoking their cigarette in the HHM parking lot.
So there's Ted, Chuck, and now Howard, who all just absolutely bonked their noggins. Ted tripping over his rug, Chuck passing out at the copy shop, and Headshot Howard who biffed his noodle the same way Chuck did when _he_ fell.
54:40 my interpretation of this scene is that the lingering of the shot on the glasses of water is a subtle hint at the idea that jimmy and kim were drinking water
I love how big a part of BCS Domingo ended up being, and getting his nickname from losing to the boss, Lalo, in a hand, folding a pair of 8s when the other pair were the turn and the river.
Watching your review of Point and Shoot brought back some of the anxiety I had watching it when it aired. That episode is the Ozymandias of BCS and my personal #1 out of both series.
It's a Christmas miracle! My god s6 part 2 was such a fantastic way to end the BB/BCS universe. Everything that needed to be resolved was given screen time. Saul- I mean Jimmy finally answers for his crimes and of course the climactic encounter with Lalo and the aftermath, one of the most depressing episodes in the franchise. Some people take issue with the slow pacing of the Gene episodes, mainly episode 10 but I think that was intentional to show how boring his life is and why he wants to start conning again, which he does shortly after.
You NEED to do a retrospective on Breaking Bad's 5 seasons. I'd love to hear how you feel the show has held up and how Better Call Saul giving more context to some storylines changes things
Good lord, these seem to get longer every time 😅 I'm not complaining because they're always fantastic. But it will take me the better part of a week to get through. #Dadlife Thanks for the fantastic Christmas present, Kiwi! Best wishes to you and yours for the holiday season and 2023
mariam mentioned how it was in abq when jeff got arrested and how the laws there work...and gene said in reference to that how it is in nebraska...so he did not give anything away!
everytime you upload its like christmas for me. i hope you're having very happy holidays, i love your vids please keep making ultra high quality BCS videos✌️
TIL that Morgan & Morgan is known/active outside of central Florida. I remember growing up seeing them on the back of phone books. Wasn't there originally another name in their firm (Morgan, Morgan, & ______)? IIRC one of the Morgans was super into getting weed legalized in Florida circa 2015. Cool to see them moving up in the world, making it all the way onto a Kiwi video! My boys are growing up!
What a ride!! Better Call Saul it’s my favorite show and I enjoyed every minute of this retrospective, it does really feel like the end of an era for television, I’m definitely following Vince, Tom and Peter in their next’s projects and I hope you too! I’m so ready for the Breaking Bad retrospective now with the knowledge of everything that happened during BCS and in the end of the universe. Great video as always
Lalo’s score is absolutely mortifying, it sends shivers down my spine - just as Lalo’s presence does to other characters. Great video as usual Kiwi, you deserve such a huge sponsor! Thank you for your hard work 💜
I’ve literally been waiting so long for this. I appreciate how much work you put into all of your BCS videos. I’m glad someone else shares the same appreciation for this show!!
I never understood how Lalo even knew where the lab location was. The German crew was shipped there specifically in the dark, without windows, getting in the truck from their warehouse, and getting out in the building. They could not have known where all of this was located.
54:50 the only comparison I can make about jimmy and kim leaving their drinks in that spot is in reference to walt leaving his drink at the bar before he disappeared to go find Gretchen and Elliot
Really good breakdown of the season clearly put a lot of work into this video and all the other ones, I really enjoyed them and thanks for all the hard work you have done for these videos. 👍🏽
Did anyone else notice in the saul gone flashback scene with chuck, you see jimmy has the ring that Marco gave but this was supposed to be before Marco dying
I don't think Walt admitting Grey Matter was very selfish, it was simply Walt's bad choice road, and leaving it is what made Walt become a teacher, become stuck in life, crush his dreams, make him feel emasculated, that all led him to cooking meth, which lead to Jessie being captured and Hank being killed. I think this is actually a development moment for Walt as he is able to actually see clearly what led him there instead of making more excuses
Well, not really because the way he explains it shows that he still doesn’t want to admit that it was his fault. Him leaving gray matter definitely caused a domino which led him down this road but he’s telling Saul in a way that antagonizes Gretchen and Elliott.
thank you for these they mustve been a pain to make but its amazing sticking this series on a second monitor and rewatching the whole of bcs without actually rewatching it bravo
Honestly, Kim feels like the real villain of in the Howard arc because she is the true reason that Howard died because she wanted to get Jimmy to truly ruin Howard
Man.... the joy that enters my heart when I see a new season rating up. I really hope it doesn't end here. Would LOVE to see a Breaking series/season breakdown/rating. Thank you for the time and work you put into these. Very much appreciated 🙏
@@TheVividKiWi I'm surprised no one commented it sooner since I'm 6 days late lol. Happy 2023 BTW. In 199 years in February 22nd people can find a way say it's 2/22/2222
1:26:09 is also a reference to Breaking Bad's "We're done when I say we're done." Back then, it was Walt dictating the terms, and now it's Saul showing us he's continuing to BREAK BAD, and he's racing toward rock bottom!
I never had the same frustration with the season finale, as I felt the way you did after sitting on it for a while, but that definitely puts a lot of the negative feelings towards the episode into perspective for me. I almost felt worse for Kim because of how she treater herself and her decisions throughout her life after 609. I didn’t even think about jimmy throwing it all away, because I really wanted him to get more than just 7 years. I was pretty mad at him after the Howard situation and rewatching BB knowing it was all weird cope, but him throwing it away made me really proud in a way I haven’t felt towards a show before. Maybe I’m not as sympathetic as some others, so I saw it a little differently, but it was really interesting hearing your perspective! Great video, can’t wait for more :))
54:40 RE Jimmy and Kim putting their glasses on the railing - I wondered if that was a visual allusion to the S5 episode where they put their beers on the balcony railing before trying to one-up each other by smashing them?
Hi Kiwi, congratulations on a great recap of every episode of this amazing series and thanks for the hours of entertainment you’ve given us. Looking forward to whatever direction you take the channel in next!
I really like the 86 symbolism. I work in the restaurant business' and when we 86 something it means were out, or it "saul gone" idk if that was intended but I think it fits nicely.
Have not watched this yet, but thanks for a great Christmas treat for your subscribers and viewers!!!! After we do the 'family thang,' I'll be back to watch! Happiest holiday to you, too!!!
I like to think the season finale was a remake of a Christmas carol with the 3 cameos representing the 3 ghosts who visit scourge to get him to change his ways. Mike would be the ghost of Christmas past Walter the ghost of Christmas present and chuck would be the ghost of Christmas yet. These flashbacks show the audience the cyclical nature of Jimmy's character with him always never learning his lesson and the need for an intervention in order for him to even have a future outside of scamming
BTW you forgot to mention that emilios appearance was the longest distance in not appearing in episodes with 15 years between his first and last appearance.
That is the most based sponsor integration I've seen for a video, really fitting! Great recap and analysis as well! I only recently got into the BCS/BrBa universe and your videos point out a lot of stuff I've missed.
29:25 - that's not a Los Pollos Hermanos theme song. Lyle's singing the words 'Los Pollos Hermanos' to the tune of 'La Cucaracha', an old Mexican song.
I still think it's such a shame the show didn't slowly turn back to color as Jimmy kills Saul. The whole we didn't want to confuse the audience is so stupid.
meh. if that's their official reason that sucks. but i think to have the color return that quickly would've been cheap. James' life can never return to the glory days of years past. he has to live with the murder of Howard & his direct involvement in Chuck's suicide, on top of the merciless drug kingpin he saved. he re-ignited the spark in his relationship with Kim, but it's just that; the flame of the cigarette is the only thing in color. he finally was able to reconcile all the tragedy in his life, but no matter how far you go, if you look back, you can always see the mountain i think i butchered the saying but whatever
I think Gould and Gilligan inserted the "Better Call Saul" prisoner chant scene for a few reasons. For one, it's a witty self-reference to throw in, but mainly it was a way to add humor to what is a generally grim ending. It's a reminder that as dark as the BB/BCS universe was, there were a lot of laughs along the way. And it softens things for Jimmy- he's almost certainly going to spend the rest of his life in prison, but it won't be as bad as it could potentially be on a day-to-day basis.
Great video as always; I’ve loved this series. As a side note, goldfish can live up to 30 years given proper care, meaning it could have still been alive.
Assuming a double S gives 5 points, with 1 point fewer for each rank down, here's a breakdown of the average scores per season based on your ranking: S1 = 2.4 S2 = 2.3 S3 = 3.5 S4 = 2.3 S5 = 3.6 S6 = 4.4
Don Eladio making fun of hector’s condition and the incessant ringing of his bell foreshadows that for as perceptive as he can be in regards to Hector and Gus‘s motives, he greatly underestimates the power of revenge in giving these men the will to do what he thought would be impossible: kill him and kill each other. The ringing of the bell in that frantic manner that don eladio is making fun of is the last sound Gus gets to hear before he dies.
Wouldn't kim know gus was dead? His death made the news. She might also know that Mike is dead, it depends if jesse telling hank that he's dead made the news when the DEA found the tapes. Probably not but its possible. I think that saul was just highlighting that she is in fact safe whereas her safety was more or less backthought compared to everything that happened.
I remember being upset at the first gene episode first time around because of the insane stakes set by the previous Saul episode with Jimmy becoming full on Saul, but in retrospect it makes sense because bcs finally reached breaking bad and we needed to know how gene ended since we already saw to the beginning of breaking bad and know how breaking bad ends
But the stakes are extremely high. Jeff could give away his identity, so he makes him commit a crimes. The heist gets very close to going wrong which can also give away his identity. Any minor slip could lead to him getting caught. I’ll never understand why people say this.
@@dancingharrison nippy was so tense, especially once jeff slipped. there was no more safety net, nothing pre-determined, we were in the final endgame of the whole gilliverse and literally ANYTHING could happen. the writers had just killed off a character i never imagined would've died; murdered, nonetheless lmao

It really was a flawless ending. I loved the El Camino tie ins.
You NEED to do a retrospective on Breaking Bad's 5 seasons. I'd love to hear how you feel the show has held up and how Better Call Saul giving more context to some storylines changes things
Thank you for the countless hours of entertainment definitely became a comfort channel
Good lord, these seem to get longer every time 😅
I'm not complaining because they're always fantastic. But it will take me the better part of a week to get through. #Dadlife
Thanks for the fantastic Christmas present, Kiwi! Best wishes to you and yours for the holiday season and 2023
mariam mentioned how it was in abq when jeff got arrested and how the laws there work...and gene said in reference to that how it is in nebraska...so he did not give anything away!
12:21 lalo is so based he wants kim to put her shoes on
unpopular opinion: Point and Shoot is the best Better Call Saul episode.
Agreed TBH
everytime you upload its like christmas for me. i hope you're having very happy holidays, i love your vids please keep making ultra high quality BCS videos✌️
I was about to go to work but vividkiwi drop a new video
TIL that Morgan & Morgan is known/active outside of central Florida. I remember growing up seeing them on the back of phone books. Wasn't there originally another name in their firm (Morgan, Morgan, & ______)?
IIRC one of the Morgans was super into getting weed legalized in Florida circa 2015. Cool to see them moving up in the world, making it all the way onto a Kiwi video! My boys are growing up!
The mid-season finale and the 2nd half premiere of the final season were amazing and had me very emotional. Howard deserved better.
I’m glad someone else shares the same appreciation for this show!!
been waiting on this, thanks for this whole series its really been great !
I never understood how Lalo even knew where the lab location was. The German crew was shipped there specifically in the dark, without windows, getting in the truck from their warehouse, and getting out in the building. They could not have known where all of this was located.
I really like how Florida Kim has her nails painted but in Albuquerque she never had her nails painted
54:50 the only comparison I can make about jimmy and kim leaving their drinks in that spot is in reference to walt leaving his drink at the bar before he disappeared to go find Gretchen and Elliot
Sticking to your guns about the non stop music lol
It’s fitting it breaks awkward silences.
Thinking the same thing
Great Christmas present!
Merry Christmas 🎄 🎅
Really good breakdown of the season clearly put a lot of work into this video and all the other ones, I really enjoyed them and thanks for all the hard work you have done for these videos. 👍🏽
These retrospectives of Better Call Saul are great. Keep up the great work man!
I'd sure like to live in the "Better Call Saul Universe" that moves towards "Breaking Bad", everybody ages backwards.
Thank you Kiwi and Merry Christmas to all🎄☃️🎁🎉❄️
Merry Christmas❄⛄🎄
Even if that's technically correct, he still doesn't see it that way. We really don't get any hint of redemption for Walt until the finale.
thank you for these they mustve been a pain to make but its amazing sticking this series on a second monitor and rewatching the whole of bcs without actually rewatching it
bravo
Cancer guy in 611 Is named KEVIN SUSSEEMAN. I AM NOT JOKING. THIS IS REAL
Honestly, Kim feels like the real villain of in the Howard arc because she is the true reason that Howard died because she wanted to get Jimmy to truly ruin Howard
"The fact is Jimmy would have flaked or got caught within a week if it weren't for me"
- Slippin' Kimmy
Man.... the joy that enters my heart when I see a new season rating up. I really hope it doesn't end here. Would LOVE to see a Breaking series/season breakdown/rating.
Thank you for the time and work you put into these. Very much appreciated 🙏
40:15
"This is why I mentioned that Gus telling Lyle* that he'd be out of town for a family meeting"
Idk how I missed that in editing lmao
@@TheVividKiWi I'm surprised no one commented it sooner since I'm 6 days late lol.
Happy 2023 BTW. In 199 years in February 22nd people can find a way say it's 2/22/2222
This ,may have already been pointed out, but the cover of Tapioca Tundra is actually Mike Nesmith's acoustic demo.
Wild to realize that half of the final 16 episodes (or eight of the 16 from 508 onwards) received SS rankings. The show really finished that strong!
I'm soooo going to miss when I get an alert that TheVividKiwi has posted something new....
18:26
Imagine then Kim seeing a Los Pollos Hermanos commercial
2:18:50 FWIW, Jessie explicitly calls Saul "a criminal lawyer", in the sense of a lawyer who is also a criminal, in Saul's first episode.
Second best Christmas gift I can think of! Next to a PS5 of course.
YESSSSS A Christmas miracle
Merry fucking Christmas thank you
thanks for a great christmas present man, this is the best. keep up the great content
That is the most based sponsor integration I've seen for a video, really fitting! Great recap and analysis as well! I only recently got into the BCS/BrBa universe and your videos point out a lot of stuff I've missed.
Great work! Love your recaps. You put a lot of effort into these videos, and we appreciate it!
I miss Better Call Saul! Thank you for your content, my friend.
Thanks for watching!
best christmas present
29:25 - that's not a Los Pollos Hermanos theme song. Lyle's singing the words 'Los Pollos Hermanos' to the tune of 'La Cucaracha', an old Mexican song.
39:34 neat little detail that painting is the same one from Breaking bad
If you was an exceptional vid, "Better call Kiwi".
Awesome vid as always Kiwi! But Point and shoot is double S tier easily.
Agreed 100%
Nippy is a masterpiece one of the best
I still think it's such a shame the show didn't slowly turn back to color as Jimmy kills Saul.
The whole we didn't want to confuse the audience is so stupid.
meh. if that's their official reason that sucks. but i think to have the color return that quickly would've been cheap. James' life can never return to the glory days of years past. he has to live with the murder of Howard & his direct involvement in Chuck's suicide, on top of the merciless drug kingpin he saved. he re-ignited the spark in his relationship with Kim, but it's just that; the flame of the cigarette is the only thing in color. he finally was able to reconcile all the tragedy in his life, but no matter how far you go, if you look back, you can always see the mountain
i think i butchered the saying but whatever
I think you should make Breaking bad content aswell
I think Gould and Gilligan inserted the "Better Call Saul" prisoner chant scene for a few reasons. For one, it's a witty self-reference to throw in, but mainly it was a way to add humor to what is a generally grim ending. It's a reminder that as dark as the BB/BCS universe was, there were a lot of laughs along the way. And it softens things for Jimmy- he's almost certainly going to spend the rest of his life in prison, but it won't be as bad as it could potentially be on a day-to-day basis.
bro got sponsored by saul goodman
Great video as always; I’ve loved this series. As a side note, goldfish can live up to 30 years given proper care, meaning it could have still been alive.
W Christmas present
Assuming a double S gives 5 points, with 1 point fewer for each rank down, here's a breakdown of the average scores per season based on your ranking:
S1 = 2.4
S2 = 2.3
S3 = 3.5
S4 = 2.3
S5 = 3.6
S6 = 4.4
Damn s2 and s4 are tied lol
I think that saul was just highlighting that she is in fact safe whereas her safety was more or less backthought compared to everything that happened.
not him advertising morgan and morgan smh lol
Merry Christmas Kiwi well Better Call Saul season six tier list is back for Christmas day so Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
The Jeff recast actually works perfectly into the story tbh.
In restaurant terms, being 86ed in getting taken off the menu...
Oh my goodness this video was so good. Can't wait to see what's next.
Dang this is such a good retrospective.
Id love to see you tackle Mr Robot if you are taking any ideas
