  • YEV is a weekly EV Podcast where we chat all things EV in a balanced way.
As some will know, I had already started the Chargeheads Live podcast, Thursday's at 8pm, and as I was looking for a way of improving content, I thought this could be a great way of producing a balanced, interesting and worthwhile podcast with a focus on electric cars.
    THE CAST:
Alex Grant is a life-long car enthusiast turned award winning motoring and tech journalist, specialising in fleets, electric vehicles, automation and modified / classic cars.
Formerly of MAX POWER, and subsequently editor of Fleet World magazine he's written about electrificationsince 2011 and launched EV Fleet World as editor.
Now freelance, he's copywriting for a range of B2B clients, is a judge for the UK Car of the Year Awards and still writes monthly for Performance VW magazine... a mix that gives him a broad overview of the automotive industry.
Kevin Booker has been driving EV's since 2015. His first EV was a Renault Zoe and has worked in the industry for 20 years.
Holder of four EV Guiness World records from John O Groats to Lands End and Longest distance to a single charge in an electric van. Taken part in the Greenfleet EV Rally. Entered a number of Layer Marney cup efficiency rallies and many other efficiency challenges.
Tim Aylen, thats me, is a 17 year motor trade professional in multiple brands, with 8 years used car buying experience which also includes EV. Buying in the last couple of years in the motortrade up to 1,000 cars a year to retail at main dealers. The last year and a half he has been specialising in EV solutions, specifically the DC charging market, in sales and events. With a keen passion for electrification, his mission is to encourage, inspire and push the boundaries of the EV scene!

    Where Chargeheads began:
At the start of 2021 I created Chargeheads to ELECTRIFY petrolheads essentially get more car enthusiasts into electric cars. An Electric Petrolhead if you like....A CHARGEHEAD!!!!
To start I decided to do an EV conversion and went on an amazing journey visiting many of the big companies in this field.
I selected the not so well known TVR Tasmin 350i, AKA the Wedge (#tvrwedgee ) to electrify after careful consideration of other cars. As I already had a TVR Griffith which I enjoyed driving and with my passion for raw, powerful, tail happy cars with no driver aids TVR was the obvious choice when selecting a car to electrify.
The 2nd build is the #SpecialTrikee project a 1970's BSA Aerial 3 Tricycle Scooter that me and my mate Vinny have turned into a e-Trike. I use this for local trips and it's a load of fun. Mrs Chargehead calls it my special scooter.....that originally had a 50cc two stroke motor and has a 250 watt motor in it, of course.
The Latest project is Rustee #RusteeTesla the Tesla build to make a Model 3 Long Range....well.....better! Better in looks, handling and performance while keeping her a monster mile daily and the efficiency intact. Focusing again on modifying with used parts to keep it green, where possible.
I hope to not only entertain with ChargeheadsUK Channel and the #TVRWedgee, #SpecialTrikee and #RusteeTesla builds, but also to inspire watchers to create their own greener transport.
With the help of leaders in their field like Ralph Hosier (Engineer, designer, builder of special vehicles, teacher, writer, TV presenter and trouble maker.
Ralph teaches Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Training (IMI Techsafe), builds some amazing one off projects and most of all is a top bloke!
He's the engineer behind #TVRWedgee the Electric TVR.
So let the fun begin......safely in a controlled environment using the right EV safety equipment! ;0)
Did I mention myself and Ralph have also done an EV Conversion safety video as well.
Welcome to the Modified EV revolution!

You can't scale H2 for highway transportation. It works well in niche applications where cost per mile isn't such a strong consideration. H2 forklifts for example. Though fast charging will probably shrink that H2 market soon as well.

@@PWN-E there is certainly a strong case against Hydrogen EV's at the moment. An interesting chat we had none the less of the potential application

I didn't think they made fuel cells small enough for forklifts.

@@otterylexa4499 We had 30-ish fuel-cell-powered fork lifts when I worked for an a EV manufacturer. None of them worked though. We were still using electric equipment. Setting up hydrogen infrastructure, even at a factory, is extremely expensive and takes forever!

Ammonia is a much nicer molecule to work with than H2, and it can be used in a Fuel Cell, but I think it's further from vehicular use. Would be a good candidate for shipping.

Hydrogen for cars is the very definition of failure

Gas engines require more maintenance & servicing than current ice cars as they run hotter, they are a good fit for HGVs but not for so much for cars. No way i am going back to a vehichle that i cannot refuel at home.
