These are definitely a gd sounding speaker.. But make no mistake the qsc will blow them away at higher volumes.. the willclip before the Qsc

Hi David! The bottom does swing out, making it easier to grasp with your other hand and carry the speaker with two hands. I don't necessarily think it was intended that way, rather than a design that was more convenient to create. At 34lbs, I think most DJs would prefer to carry 2 speakers at once and make one less trip. Imho, this awkward balance makes it cumbersome, and forces the carrier to make the lower front of the speaker the first the point of contact, (scraping it) when setting it down.

And all you had to do to figure out the intended weighting and placement of the top and bottom handles was start with your other hand. The weighting assists you in using two hands to carry.

I'm happy either way, carrying one at a time with two hands or one in each hand - which balances just fine.

About the usual red light to show limit/clipping, although the ZLX doesn't have one the screen does become all white with words "LIMIT" in big in order to grab one's attention. So it's an ok trade-off

Not trying to discredit the EV - which certainly looks like it could be one of the best values out there, simply indicating why the price isn't as high as the QSCs/Yamahas. Also, since the ZLX line is so new, reliability and possible isues/shortcomings have yet to be identified.I will admit they are very tempting given their price and EV's reputation of quality. I would like to test them against a K12 and DXR12. Not convinced they will produce as much SPL though, but you do get a lot for 400$!

It seems you're trying to discredit the speaker, and comparing it to speakers costing much more. While I agree that the k12 has more options for mixing, that's what mixers are for ;). The DSP menu isn't exactly hard to navigate, and considering the long list of options it offers, it's a very fair trade off. You just can't offer that many options with knobs and switches on the back of the speaker. Imho EV has made a speaker that simply outperforms everything in it's price class.

The K12 has a better mixer section, better 6 year warranty, higher output capability and higher quality transducers than the ZLX. Yamaha DXR12 would also outperform the EV and is lower priced than the K12. Personally, I find the LED menu system annoying. I would much rather have knobs for different functions that I can access instantly to make on the fly adjustments than to have to navigate a menu.
