      My concern was that he's only a sub. If they don't want him full time where he is I know of a few dozen places that could really use someone like that. lol
      It's less than 5 minutes so it isn't like we got a full interview but as a fellow teacher you can usually tell right away when teachers are quality or not, the good ones are so rare nowadays.

      We also need people to stop pretending that such teachers are so prevalent that we need to worry about them. It's a right-wing cliche that has one purpose: demonizing all teachers, and diminishing their value. The vast majority of teachers are good people who care deeply.

    • @zagorith14
      @zagorith14 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@simonjohnston9488 Come now. Right wing, left wing, buffalo wing, politics are irrelevant because great teachers are easily determined by success of their students. I have yet to hear a right winger claim that all teachers or a majority of teacher are shitty like you are implying. There ARE shitty teachers out there, even if you don't want to admit it, and you virtue signaling isn't going to change that. Why not come over to California, where the teachers, schools, and cirriculum are all meant to just push students through the system instead of individualized approach, causing it to be one of the worst in the country. I had several teachers who were crap. Who singled good students out for punishment, hardly taught anything useful, and acted like they wanted nothing to do with us. In contrast, there were also great teachers that made learning fun, treated all their students with respect, and took pride in their work. There are great teachers and there are shit teachers. It depends on the teacher. But to pretend that there aren't some horrible teachers out there is just willful ignorance. Based off your opinion, you must live in a state that has a great education system. Lucky you.

      @@simonjohnston9488 most teachers are lazy. They all go in with good intentions and by the 2nd year most are beat down because schools spend their money in the worst ways and don't give them any incentive to teach. So they either quit by year 5 or they get tenure and collect a free paycheck for life.

    It seems like substitute teachers were always either completely intolerable, or very interesting and entertaining. This reminds me of a math sub we had in 9th grade, showing off his ability to add any two numbers together within a few seconds. Much like this guy, he also had a great sense of humor, and clearly loved interacting with the students.

They just handed out papers and read a book on their own til it was time to go... Lol. These are the good ones, the ones that keep the kids engaged with the simple shit, sometimes that's what they need to stay engaged in the material.

    • @bikerboy9010
      @bikerboy9010 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Exactly. I 100% agree with you. This guy wasn't their regular teacher. He was a substitute teacher, and in high school, substitute teachers usually don't have lesson plans where they actually teach. Most likely, he showed them the magnets trick as a way to connect and bond with the students and to keep the students engaged in the material. You can't make the assumption that the students in that advanced physics class are learning about magnets based on this youtube video and are only learning concepts that are considered "too easy" for an advanced physics class. You can't make the assumption based on this youtube video that the students aren't learning, aren't getting a good education, etc in that advanced physics class.
      This guy definitely seems like one of the great substitute teachers. It is true how in high school, teachers usually never have lesson plans where the substitute teaches. Long term substitutes are usually the only substitutes in high school who actually teach. Lesson plans in high school are normally lesson plans where the substitute gives students an assignment to work on, and the substitute is in the classroom supervising and monitoring the students while they are working on the assignment. The reason why in high school, substitutes never have lesson plans where the actually teach is due to it being unpredictable what someone is an expert on and unpredictable what someone is capable of explaining to students in a way students can understand. Some substitute teachers are experts on Physics, Calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry, Chemistry, French, etc and some substitute teachers are not experts on Physics, Calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry, Chemistry, French, etc. Some substitute teachers are good at explaining certain concepts in a way students can understand, and some substitute teachers are not good at explaining certain concepts in a way students can understand. Substitute teachers are needed since students can't be left in a classroom unsupervised. When teachers don't have anyone subbing for them that day, the other teachers and substitutes in that school have to cover for that teacher during their planning periods since the students can't be left in the classroom unsupervised.
      Teachers often don't know in advance who is going to be subbing for them, which is why in high school teachers have lesson plans for subs where the substitute gives students an assignment to work on and then supervises/monitors them while working on the assignment. Teachers have to be prepared in case the person subbing for them isn't an expert on the topic or isn't good at explaining the concepts in a way students can understand, which is why in high school, substitutes usually never have lesson plans where they actually teach.

    • @margaretmead1182
      @margaretmead1182 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flonde the two two magnets have opposite charges- one is positive, one is negative. The oppositely charged electrons in each magnet are attracted to each other. If the two magnets both had the same charge they would repel each other.

    • @sparkyjones560
      @sparkyjones560 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Margaret Mead magnets have two poles a positive and a negative. they aren't either/or, but both, or a "north pole" and a "south pole"
      with two magnets likes repel, opposites attract.
      so, with the two magnets in this video when they are North/south they attract when the fields come into range, and repel when they come into their magnetic field range when the poles are faced north/north or south/south.
      oh and I think Flonde was being facetious.

    Is the instructor trying to make a reputation off of the "strong boy". Many years ago, in "health class" an instructor tried to embarrass me. The lesson was "the value of physical activity". The instructor picked me and one of the jocks in the room. We were to run about 600 yards and then they would take our pulse and time how long it took to return to normal. The instructor was sure that the jock would put me in my place. I beat the jock at the run and had better heart numbers. The lesson ended early.

    • @danr5105
      @danr5105 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For some reason I do not find that label at all offensive, but just this once,OK?. In the same health class the female instructor (it was 10th grade and we had a male and a female instructor) was explaining to the girls why they could not trust a "boy" to keep his promise at that critical point during "love making". This woman's face turned as red as blood, the entire class roared. There really was no more "sex talk" for the rest of the semester.

    • @DDogg43777
      @DDogg43777 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dan R
      Don’t entirely know what you’re getting at. “Jock” as in an athlete? I’m sorry to say, but being physically active is better for your heart, and usually leads to lessoned number of heart beats. However, some people simply have faster beating hearts.

    • @danr5105
      @danr5105 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hello Devonic. Oh my point. The old , "You can't judge a book by its cover". My instructor mistakenly believed that the "jock" was in better physical shape than me simply because I had long hair. The instructor tried to embarrass me in front of the class but he failed as I easily kept pace with the person that looked more like an athlete. I could see he was worried when we ended the race in a dead heat but when my heart numbers were better that his "ringer" well he just shut the fuck up.
