  • In this vid I test for the first time Mission Model Paint metal colors Chrome, Gold and Brass. Being an acrylic I was wondering can it compare to Alclad. Well I was a little let down as I really do like Mission paint. I'm starting to think acrylics can't replicate true metal colors. However it's not all bad..

Can't wait for the Mission Model tests. As someone who has to work exclusively indoors I think Acrylic will be my go to paint style.

Hi Rex, Great test as always. Many companies have tried and failed to replicate our product, all seem to have failed. Acrylic pigments are far too large to get a true representation of metal colours. We now have a large range of MIL-SPEC colours which are true representations of the originals used by RAF, USAAF, USAF, IAF and Luftwaffe from WWII to Modern day. I hope they reach you soon. Mark, Alclad 2

@@konior21 Hi Mark, All the metallics in the UK are under the MIG A-Stand umbrella and is still in production. US can still purchase it from the same company. Mark

Like you I really like the Mission Models range, but I have found myself disappointed with their metallics. From my testing and research I suspect these chrome type finishes are repackaged AutoAir paint, looking at the bottles. I also suspect their thinner is Createx Reducer and the Mission Models poly additive is Createx 4030 Mix Additive rebranded. Nothing wrong with this of course, these are probably the guys who are contracted to make the Mission Models paints. The Autoborne primers are also very similar to the Mission Model primer in finish, but they are much thicker and don't spray as well in the smaller airbrushes we use in the hobby. Given this primer is sold in large volumes and for auto style guns, perhaps not surprising. I suspect the MM primer is the same product, but thinned more from the get go and with a finer pigment for our hobby. Would be interested to see what your thoughts are on this, if you do any testing/comparisons. At the moment I would rate the Mission Models primers as the most expensive, but easiest to use and best polyurethane based primers for our hobby.

You are correct. The poly additive is the same as Createx Wicked as I have them sitting here next to each other. I'm working on a Wicked Colors test video and a Mission test too

@@barbatosrex9473 Appreciate these test. Yeah, I found out from a different site that the Wicked Colors reducer and poly additive work perfectly with them. Glad to know since I already have a good amount of their products and MM by comparison is kinda pricey. I do like that their paint finish is pretty smooth and does not have to go on too thick to get good coverage so it does not hide details. The one thing I will say about them is that their support could use a bit of customer service skills. Yes, their site does cover many of the most common issues you can run into with their paints but I have read many stories where customer run into a peculiar issue and their response is to practically insult them and tell them the only reason it doesn't work is because they are using it wrong and that MMP is the best acrylic paint out there. ( Ego much? ) I have about 24 of their paints but if they continue to act like this when people are asking for help they won't get by repeat business anymore.

Hi Rex, great review as always. Have you found any Acrylic Chrome that comes even close to AlClad 2? If not, hopefully your new Acrylic Line that you're going to produce in the near future can achieve that. Also, if you haven't tried Vallejo Oily Steel (either Model Air/Game or straight Model, I really like the look of that paint.) Peace ... OB

No acrylic can ever compete and I now saw that today, I saw a bottle of alclad and I've always been interested so I picked it up and I shook it gently.....it was like metal was literally melted into liquid and just put inside a bottle.

Don't waste your money on missions model paints. Just Junk they are made by Createx I spent so much money on them .iam a full time model builder and I Experimented for a week just to see if I could a really use these paints. All stick to mr.color and Tamiya paint..

Ya know, this line of reasoning never really made sense to me; I am a full-time "Insert profession here", so that should clearly mean my subjective opinion on something should be paramount to fact. Like okay Bro, so you didnt enjoy them.... big f'ing deal, want a tissue? But no, you just HAD to shoe-horn in the fact you were a full time model builder like that is suppose to provide any credence to what you say. I see plenty of people who enjoy Mission Model Paints, are you just telling them that they are all wrong? That they should NOT enjoy using the brands of paints that they like? Like, check your fucking privilege, Boomer.

@@dantekicksdemonass yes its is very nice that its my full time job I been doing it for over 45 years. I even know john the man behind the mission model paints for me they do not come close to being a paint that I can stand behind at all .. every paints or product I use has to be tested over and over and they have to be able to last for many years under Museum quality lighting. I still have about $400 worth of mission model paints. I test New paints and products weekly looking for the best products that will save me time and money. Iam not saying that you can't use them I have painted many models with mission model paints but it only worked with my own Formula for thinning them .most people that use them have to doctor them to use them ..so you must love them good .I don't have time to mess around with them..and the reason I mentioned the iam a full time model builder is I get ask about it all the time or do you just build on the weekends..NO I build 7 days a week from 8am until 11pm . iam very busy. I didn't enjoy them please.

@@dantekicksdemonass first chill out sparky. It’s obvious that he said that to let people know that he has used them and many other brands of paint in real world application considerably more often then the acreage hobbiest that would subscribe to this channel. If you didn’t know who the guy was and he didn’t say he was an astrophysicist then you would probably forget what he said.
