You can have a successful tour, do everything right, and when you come home, not just be broke, but owing money. When a band puts out a music video the label generally pays for that out of the band's earnings. If the label throws a launch party for a band, they will pay for that from a band's earnings. There's a reason bands write songs dissing record labels

My name is Adam but people know me as "Adz".
I was born with a major speech condition but 30+ years onwards thanks to the love of my music (mainly rock & metal) my voice is understandable more.
I have a huge passion for music, so much that I go live on TikTok a lot putting on great performances (me singing along to music on a mic in my room) and my streams get very lit. A lot of people even tell me I've got talent and they get impressed with my singing. One person even told me I'm "Chester Bennington 2.0" 🤣. I give off those Chester vibes as I put my heart and soul into my Online Virtual Concerts.
I find communication is better through my singing. I find that it is easier than talking (I do not have a tough time in talking).
I have above 6000 followers on TikTok. I sing because I enjoy it but at the same time I'm serious about it.
Whenever I sing "Animal I've Become" I sing that so perfectly that my friends sings along (writes the lyrics down) lol. I can also sing "Dear God" by Avenged Sevenfold so good. My screams are spot on as well.

"Death on Two Legs" - Freddie Mercury in 1975. I urge any young artist to listen to this song & learn about the legacy behind it. It is a serious cautionary tale that really happened & it is why it is the 1st track on one of the most important pieces of art ever made in recording history, "A Night at the Opera" by Queen.

I am NOT anywhere near the same level as Tool, but.... I do play out 3-5 times a week. I hear almost every show "Omg, you're the best band Ive ever heard. Why aren't you guys famous? Blah blah blah." Right.... We're the best band you've ever heard until you go down the road to the next bar and see another band. Then that band is the best band you've ever heard. Lololol
So Maynard's "dumb and naive" comment rings really strongly with me. I get it. People are just trying to be nice and trying to tell you they're having fun. But its amazing to me how much that can go to some working musicians' heads.

I knew the codes from my mother in law being quasi quadriplegic. Built her a house in Massachusetts and learned the codes, ended up doing some other work with a mobility company (stairlifts, scooter maintenance, elevator/lifts, etc) I’m able bodied, and if I can make life a little easier or help someone else with their independence, I’m all for it. Great tip! The problem is so many artists are starving artists and dont have a dime to their name to get a lawyer. They are afraid to lose their chance at success. They need the money to produce the record. It is shame that so many artists get screwed. But it is true if the artist/band truly believes in their success and abilities they need to make sure they are protected.

The MOST important part of any major label contract is the "death clause". DO NOT just skip over that. It means if you die, the company takes total control of your musical assets, or worse. Don't sign ANYTHING which could at any point make you worth more DEAD than ALIVE. Lots of the musical "tragedies" we've seen over the years were NOT "accidents."

Maynard is such a cool and intelligent dude, just seems ironic he is talking about this subject with a interviewer that is one of the biggest tools in Hollywood. Yep, this is a story I've been hearing for a verrry long time.
Cream literally imploded due to being completely defrauded by their 'management'. Prince called this out years ago, refusing to take Advances and recording and producing his own work. Kurt Cobain's David Geffen joke at the 'MTV Unplugged' performance was a jipe at this. Trent Reznor literally told people to steal his albums.
Imagine getting a 'regular' job, earning a Gross of, say, 40K a year, then the company you work for pays you 5% of that. You'd be WELL pissed!
This is what killed my interest in being a 'professional' musician at about age 16 or so. No wonder so many end up suicidal, as addicts, or bitter beyond recognition.
And, nowadays, we have the likes of Shitify, who are even worse.
    And no-one does anything. 😐

Ooof, now talk about the royal screwing Chevelle took way way back. It took them what, 20+ years to recover from that?

Sounds like Maynard never recovered from Sylvia Massy telling him his vocals were not hitting that right way and told him to run around the block a few times and come back.
    He was very upset

Dude Slipknot I don’t thing there is enough money on the planet for those boys deserve. Holy shit for real. And no disrespect to Limp biscuit. As they deserve a lot absolutely and to be paid but the length Slipknot has gone to and through the injuries the absolute putting themselves into the grinder countless number of times just to sew themselves back together. Almost quite literally and the losses. I think you see what I mean. Limp biscuit have been around and continue to do their thing that they are good at. But Slipknot is on a holy shit level looking from the outside in as a fan from the beginning. I’ve been here the whole ride. As I know you have too. Also not trying to pit them against one another by any means.

Ohhh I thought he meant Bert. 😂 so frustrating seeing MJK in front of someone who interrupts and his laugh. I wish Maynard would’ve asked him name 5 songs.

Michael Jackson owned the Beatles, elvis and Eminem masters before he died…. A lot of money in those records it sure is a coincidental death that Sony bought a lot of it back after he died

Been a stagehand for 5 years right out of hs. All I can say is the music scene and industry is like a reanimated dead grandma. It’s not her anymore. Covid destroyed a lot of the local scenes. People lost their businesses the local scene is still rebuilding. I stopped going to shows owned by aeg,PromoWest, and live nation and really just any place that’s scummy in my opinion. You gotta be punk about it and dm the artists tell them you’re not going to their shows anymore. Boycott fake live music. It’s almost like the evil people running this world knew what it would do to people who just want to have fun.

Yeah. Maynard is on another level. Met him twice. He’s a strange guy, but most genius level guys are.
