Right on! That was kind of our theory from day one! The build outs are awesome, we just wanted to take all of that time and money and invest it in an adventure, not the set up - and we did - we have had a fantastic year, and took it cross country this past March to the Grand Canyon and had all of the things we needed - and were more than comfortable! Thanks for watching!
Clutter Free is the way to be! And I’m with you! I didn’t want to build either. That’s not my jam. Simple, easy economical, clutter free. Less is more. Great video!!! 😃🙌🏼💯
So true! We are constantly fine tuning and making sure EVERYTHING has a place. We take things to be prepared for all adventures - our out west trip required us to be prepared for all seasons with clothing, etc - but even with that - we have things that we can use for multiple purpose - we try to maintain as much of the "free space" as possible - to keep it comfortable!
Nicely done girls, my sentiments exactly, "Less is more," vans are small enough, without adding cabinets etc, I like what you`ve done, comfy & practical, nothing pretentious. 👍
Thanks so much! We just wanted to get on the road as quickly as possible, and put all of the "build" funds into the adventures rather than stuff we didn't need in the van! We appreciate you joining us!
OH GOSH!!! LOVE THIS!! I want to do this! Been wanting to have a camper van done so we can go on road trips but the other stuff we see are so complicated. Thank you so much for sharing!!
Go for it! It doesn't take much to get on the road! When we made our trip out west, we saw people making it work in ALL kinds of set ups - it was truly inspiring - seeing people making memories and making things happen - doing whatever necessary to capture those memories! We hope you found something helfpul!
You can do what you did because you don't live in the van fully time. For full-timers, you need to study insolation and heat first. (according to your location and plan obviously) and power etc. This is great for Campers.
You are absolutely correct - we are certain that those who are full timers have needs that exceed this set up. We are sharing to help those who just want to car camp or are starting out on a budget. Thanks for watching!
You can start this way living full-time and add on as you go. If you have time to plan it out you could go out in the van in spring and summer and be saving over those 24 weeks for insulation & installation & accommodation while that's happening. If hardly time to plan before you have to go say through eviction, this would be the way to go & pack all the winter woollies into cushion covers ready for winter. Also hand warmers etc. Propane stove and the ability to heat water for drinks & your hot water bottle. Gym bags and baskets would take care of wardrobe, bathroom, laundry, housecleaning, kitchen, food supplies & utensils, entertainment, garage, storage needs.
Ok!! I’m going to rip everything out of my build & go no clutter! Lol My wife would kill me. Nice thing about Van conversions is doing what works best for you. 👍👍
Oh no - hahaha - we think we would agree with your wife on that one! You guys have a fantastic build! Don't get us wrong - those luxuries at times would be super nice - but we had waited so long to just acquire the van - that we wanted to get on the way as soon as possible! The last 18 months with the van have created more memories for us than years and years leading us to it - we often joke that Fran (our van) is our best friend - hahaha! Thanks for watching!
I agree, sometimes I think people keep trying to turn mobile cars and vans to look just like Hobsessed I think they should be kept simple and clever ways of storage that's it
That bunk set up has a nice advantage. Versatility. I could see the option when visiting family/friends on trips possibly setting them up inside if they had extra space but not extra bedrooms. I enjoy seeing this simpler set up. We have a 5th wheel, but personally I am inclined to lean towards a more simpler set up. Hubby has a number of prequists that moved us towards towards our 5th wheel (but that doesn’t diminish my enjoyment to watch through others doing things another way too). I went back to see some other videos too, you have a lot of interesting ones I can check out during the winter!
Hi Carol - thank you for watching! Yes, the versatility of the van is what we absolutely love the most. When we first got it - we had all kinds of things planned with it - but absolutely LOVED the wide open space of the cargo, and decided that we wanted to keep that as much as possible. We have changed the layout at least a dozen times in the 18 months we have had her - constantly making changes as our needs/adventures change - which is a HUGE bonus - we have taken it across the country to Grand Canyon National Park - and then we have loaded the kayaks up in it for the day at the lake - We have used it for so many things - it has been great!
I have an old Coleman cot that I bought for tent camping about 20 years ago. At the time, it fit me perfectly and I loved sleeping on it. Not so comfortable now, alas. However, I am experimenting with different ways of making it comfortable for my old bones, because it's so practical, and I already have it!! It's portable, an excellent size, and allows for storage underneath! I'll be using it to camp in my van again, as soon as weather allows.
That is fantastic! We love to hear that there are so many getting out! We feel your pain with the "old bones" - lol - we both had back injuries last year and are very mindful of making ourselves as comfortable as possible! We wish you tons of happy travels! Thanks for wathcing!
Yes, yes, yes! No build is the way to go for me too. At first, because it was a working van that we camped in on weekends etc. but we were going to "build it out" later. Not my plan any more as I love the ease and light weight of the no build!
That is awesome! We completely understand that approach! We loved our cargo space and wanted to maintain as much as possible -this keeps the weight & cost down, and allows us to change things as our needs or adventures require! Thanks for watching! Keep making memories & adventure on! ~Karen & Shannon WOY
The size of the cot was what sold us on this too! Our very first trip out, we had decided to try to use our tent camping set up in the van - we really loved the cargo space when we first got it - and wanted to maintain as much of the space as possible - so we used our inflatable therma-rest pads for backpacking on the floor of the van. It was TERRIBLE! Those pads work great on the ground - not on the floor of a vehicle that has grooves - oh we could barely move the next morning when we got up! And - it didn't work for us because when one of us got up - it wasn't like the tent where we could not disturb the other. We both had to completely get up and tear down our sleep set up so we had room to get out of the van. So - Karen did a lot of research because we were trying to work around the wheel wells and try to keep as much floor space as possible - and these cots were JUST what we needed. We didn't want it bigger than we needed - and most where 6-12" longer that we needed - and you know how it is in the van, every inch counts! The space underneath was also wonderful to have for storage - and the plan at first was that we would fold it up each time for travel, but we don't - they stay just like that - they don't move (we have them wedged in pretty tight) and they are ready to go at all times. It was import for us to be able to go to sleep if necessary in inclement weather without having to get out of the van. And - with two of us moving around in there - you HAVE to have floor space, and keep organized - and stick to routines!
Nice simple setup, I looked at so many different builts when I was looking into camper vans, there are some amazing vans out there, and they are expensive, I like simple, and simple is a lot cheaper.
Hi there! Yes, we found that simple is best! And you are correct - there are AWESOME builds out there - we just decided to take those funds and put them in the gas tank and GO!
After living in my car for 3 years I finally bought a van I like the van life and your bed idea good video guys keep on camping I might bump into yall one day when I leave kentucky be safe out there
Looks like a great and simple setup that works. Vans are pretty narrow and found a scenario that works, provides storage, and fit around the wheel wells which always get in the way. I'm liking your stickers all over inside. Nice décor. Have a great day.
We agree! We wanted to keep it simple and get on the road as soon as possible - this set up is what we have been using since our out west trip (where most of the magnets on the roof came from! We pick up a magnet at each destination the van has given us an experience in!)
I bought a squaredrop last year, and I use a cot with a Hest Foamy mattress and bedding system on top. Because the ceiling is lower in a squaredrop, my cot is only 8 inches high. I can sit comfortably in the bed, but I can still store quite a bit underneath it. My whole camper is 59 inches wide, and the cot only takes up 25 inches. My dogs crate just fits at the foot of my bed, and I keep the rest of the space open with foam insulation and a rug and pad on the floor, so that I can sit there with my dog and care for her in any weather. (She must be hand fed.) When my sister comes along, I put her on the cot. I have another mattress and bedding, and I put that on the floor for me. When I need the space for feeding the dog, I just stack my bed on top of the cot bed. Both my sister and I are pretty petite. 5'2" and 120-130 pounds, so it isn't too tight, and we still have a tiny aisle. So, our setup is remarkably similar.
Very cool! It sounds like you too have done a lot of trial and error to get things set up just right! Being able to take along your sister AND your dog must be a HUGE bonus to your travels!
Hi, Karen and Shannon, Well said. It is all about the purpose of the use of a vehicle. We are able to have great adventures without breaking the bank. 🤔 Thank you very much. Ta-ta until the next time.
We agree! Don't get us wrong, the build out vans are awesome! But we just wanted to get moving as quickly as possible - and we are very tickled with our set up! It's better than a tent which is what we were doing before! Sometimes we would just be so exhausted when we got to our destination and even putting up a tent was a task! Now - if we want - we can just park and crawl in the back and go to sleep and get ready for the next day adventure!
Hi Lisa! We hear ya! We both sleep better in the van too! We added a memory foam topper and it is WONDERFUL! The easiest & most comfortable bed ever! Thanks for watching! Keep making memories & adventure on! ~Karen & Shannon WOY
Lawdy-Lawdy look whose 40!!! 😂 Am I glad to have found your channel ladies!!! I’m 60, semi retired & will be forced out of my apartment soon so I’m worried I won’t know much about what I’m going to need in my van to provide me w/comfort (bad arthritis so a good bed/mattress is top of the list). Thank you so much for sharing & I’m gonna be binge watching your videos. 💖💋
Yay! Thank you for joining us! We hope that you find some helpful information to help you on your next chapter! We hope that it is very exciting for you! We look forward to hearing how things are progressing for you!
The two cot idea is brilliant. I would have never thought of that. Simple yet effective I say. Great video WOY. Do you have any problems with moisture condensation?
The cots have been working GREAT for us - and we have a number of things that we do to combat condensation. That is always top of our mind in the van. We are VERY mindful - we have a video up of some things we do - and will probably be updating it in an upcoming video as well!
im working on buying a minivan and getting out on the road myself within the next year and a half, my plan is a "minor build" building a simple floor cutting out and building a storage cabin in the rear end where the stow and go seats normally are in a minivan. currently i own two differant cube organizers made of partical board one 9 square and 1 6 square i plan to repurpose for storage and turn into my kitchen space. plan to build out a very light weight slat wood frame for a 32 inch matress.
Always ❣ Thank you for making great videos with all your heart Always ❣ videos are so~ so cool👍👌🙏💕 Always ❣ Have a wonderful time and a time full of happiness Always ❣ I hope you always have a good day and fighting!❣❣❣💟
Hi Karen and Shannon, that was an interesting video. Seeing a touring van in a much simple way. I would probably do the same, as I would want to just up and go too 😊 you have plenty of space in there, and cupboards etc… would certainly make the space a lot smaller 😊 great video and very cool sharing too
Our pleasure! We were wanting to get moving as quickly as possible after acquiring the van - and we were used to tent camping so we didn't feel it necessary to do a bunch of fancy things that were not really going to make our experiences any better - having the van was a huge deal - the adventures now are what we find most important! Thanks for watching!
Well done ladies 👍. Those extravagant builds are amazing, ☝️but not necessary for everyone. I enjoy seeing folks like you sharing easy ways to put things together. Some people who want to try it out won't because they get caught up in thinking they have to spend big bucks on major fancy builds. Stay safe and well out there 👍 ❤
Thank you so much! That was our thoughts EXACTLY - we didn't want to put a ton of money into the van - we wanted to put it into the adventures! Our trip cross country was quite comfortable in the van! Thanks for watching!
@wanderingoutyonder Absolutely, the adventure is where you want to be able to splurge and have fun freely. Look forward to watching more 😊. Happy travels to you both ❤️
I like your setup, it looks comfortable! What size of sleeping foam mattress did you purchase? I noticed that they are sold in various sizes. Thanks for sharing and replying. Safe travels!🤗
So glad to hear you found something that may be helpful - we got the "Single" and had to cut it down a bit to fit our cots - they were SUCH an improvement!
I have that same cot in my minivan and its very comfortable. I love that you can stand up in this vehicle and everything is so practical. Never showed the outside of the van or entry points but the rest was great.
We have a Ford Transit 250 cargo van (130" wheelbase) and we ONLY use the back for entry when parked. We are so happy with our cots - they work perfect for our needs! Thanks for watching!
@Wandering Out Yonder I have the same cot in my minivan as well & it's been great. I'll be upgrading to a larger van soon when my sister retires to join me on the road. I have the small size, but I'm not sure it will fit over the wheel well. Which size cot did you ladies get?
@Wandering Out Yonder Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it! I clicked on the link, but it doesn't specify which size cots you got. There is the small one and the deluxe one. Was just wondering which one will go over the wheel well like yours did.
@@rosevalerio5863 That would be the the standard - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0075D2J2C?th=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=wanderingouty-20&linkId=0288e85fe46e6e2c27f17d38689a919f&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl if you see the dimensions - it is 69 x 25 x 15 in.
We have a pro city ram and when we go on trip we put a cot in it. I want a ford transit cargo now for more space but using cots instead of building it. We use the van for other uses too so when not traveling we store the cot in our garage.
Hello John! We tried a few different methods, first being just using our inflatable Therma-Rest sleep pads from our tent on the floor of the an the first night and that was MISERABLE! You could feel all of the little channels on the floor, and then when we woke up - in order for one of us to get us - the other had to get up and completely break down our set up regardless if we were done sleeping or not because there was no floor room to stand up to get out of the van. That is why we decided we NEEDED the aisle - we needed to be able to move without disturbing the other if need be. This works great and now that it is getting colder - we pull out our Enlightened Equipment Quilts from tenting to throw on our beds. Our tent experience has helped GREATLY with fine tuning our van set up! Thanks for watching!
Keep It Simple Sweet (KISS) perfect set up my van build is very simple but my van is my tow vehicle for my travel trailer and I call it "da den" so it is/a spare lol guest room for grandkids, friends or me if I choose to park my trailer and venture over the border etc. nice video looking forward to watching your series. 😊
That’s my thoughts exactly. I won’t be building mine out. Just a camping cot, totes under it with clothes and snacks, a fridge, jackets and a zero breeze. That’s it
Thank you! You too! Our approach was simple and sweet and so far it has been serving us VERY well! Thanks for watching and Happy Thanksgiving to you as well sir!
This is exactly what I had hoped to do. We already owned these Coleman cots but we ran into a problem with those darn wheel wells. Just couldn't make them work in our Chevy 2500 cargo van. The center cot support and the location of those wells just didn't mesh.
Your sound or volume is so low I had to put on CC to read what you were saying.. Do you tie the cots down someway to prevent them from sliding? I have a 2019 SUV Ford Escape I'm trying to find low cost ways into making it into a temporary camper SUV.
Hi- we have since upgraded our editing software. Yes, they are in place with giant zip ties - perhaps this video will be more helpful: th-cam.com/video/IpHh_QG8ZtU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=d5LRIHx_t4yJlAOB
This actually what I’m going to be doing a no build van but I’ll have everything I need. So when I want to sell the van or need to use it for something else I can just remove things.
Great job but I have a question - don't you bake in that van in the summer with no insulation and no vent fan? (Or did I miss the vent fan?) Please understand - I'm asking, not criticizing. I love your build - it looks great. I hope you have many wonderful adventures!
Hi Julia! Great question - no - we use a few things to regulate the temperature in the van. We have several fans - battery operated, electric, etc - and our biggest helps is our screens for the front windows & the back barn doors. It allows us to get some great circulation and that helps with the heat. Also - we head towards cooler climates. We wouldn't dare try the desert in the middle of the summer with just this approach. I have a Ram PROMASTER City van and I have done something similar in that I have a no build, build of sorts. I use the back of the van for many activities so have to be versatile and not be committed to one set-up. One thing I did for my mattress was made a mattress sheet because my mattress was odd dimensions and I couldn’t find sheets to fit. I will try to get the links to you for my clip on how I did it. Love your videos and thought process!! Great job. th-cam.com/video/Bcq8f5bEaR4/w-d-xo.html
Hi! Thanks for watching! We have traveled for 2 years in the van and been more than comfortable. We use our experience with tent camping and adapt some of those methods and have slept in 15 degrees. Happy travels!

Volume volume couldn't hear a thing
You nailed it. "You don't need a fancy camper, and you don't need a fancy build out". Just get out there on the road. Great video!
I love the look of the “fully built” vans but I think for me I like the No build vans. I like the idea of be able to change the set up.
People need to see more (no)builds like this. Easy, you can do it yourself and cheap. Nice video you two.
Agreed! It doesn't take a whole lot to get on the road and start gathering those memories! We don't regret going this route at all!
Tell me about it!, I'm cluttered in a pick up hauling rvzz😅
Two person: no loneliness, safer, sharing *minimum cost of living.*
How smart!
We absolutely LOVE being on the go! Thanks for watching!
I have a 2004 Chevy 2500 just got a cot same exact style and some carpet down .. I'm going super budget thank you for this 👏
That's great!!!! WE are always on a super budget and the cots have worked out great for us! Thanks for watching!
OH GOSH!!!
@@wanderingoutyonder Indeed!! Thanks SOOO much!
@@wanderingoutyonder subbed for more!!
Have fun girls and be safe out there
Thank you! Happy Travels!
I agree, sometimes I think people keep trying to turn mobile cars and vans to look just like Hobsessed I think they should be kept simple and clever ways of storage that's it
Agreed! This layout has worked VERY well for us! Thanks for watching
I enjoyed watching an excellent video. Happy weekend 편안한 하루되세요.!! 😊 👍👍🌾🌼🌷.,.,🌸☘🍀🌿 .🌿 ❤
Thanks for watching!
We have changed the layout at least a dozen times in the 18 months we have had her - constantly making changes as our needs/adventures change - which is a HUGE bonus - we have taken it across the country to Grand Canyon National Park - and then we have loaded the kayaks up in it for the day at the lake -
We have used it for so many things - it has been great!
I put a trifold mattress on my Coleman cot really helps!
Beaux partage 👌 bonne journée 💖🌹
Thanks for watching!
Hello WOY, a no build van option set up is a great idea. I look forward to seeing more of your van.
More to come! Thanks for watching!
Love this. I’ll be doing this to my Chrysler town and country soon. That’s a big van!
So glad you found something helpful! Thank you for watching!
I have the same cot as you know. It’s excellent! Love that is 69 inches long. BIG Space Saver. 👍🏼
Great share amico 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
After living in my car for 3 years I finally bought a van I like the van life and your bed idea good video guys keep on camping I might bump into yall one day when I leave kentucky be safe out there
Very nice! We hope that you found some things helpful! Happy travels and if you see us out and about, be sure to say hello!!
You had me at 'clutter free' xx
That is really the only option in our opinions in such a small space - especially for two people!
This is something I learnt. Currently I car camp but if I got another van I would keep it very simple and not insure it as a campervan.
Thanks for watcing!
Hi, Karen and Shannon,
Well said.
It is all about the purpose of the use of a vehicle.
We are able to have great adventures without breaking the bank. 🤔
Thank you very much.
@@wanderingoutyonder 👩👩👍👍
I use that cot in my minivan. I use foam from Lowe’s and it is the best sleeping surface ever.. prefer it to a bed
Hi Lisa! We hear ya! We both sleep better in the van too! We added a memory foam topper and it is WONDERFUL! The easiest & most comfortable bed ever! Thanks for watching! Keep making memories & adventure on! ~Karen & Shannon WOY

Am I glad to have found your channel ladies!!!
Aloha Always, very good advice. Me too, bed, fridge and go!
Awesome! We agree - it's all about the adventures & the memories!
im working on buying a minivan and getting out on the road myself within the next year and a half, my plan is a "minor build" building a simple floor cutting out and building a storage cabin in the rear end where the stow and go seats normally are in a minivan. currently i own two differant cube organizers made of partical board one 9 square and 1 6 square i plan to repurpose for storage and turn into my kitchen space. plan to build out a very light weight slat wood frame for a 32 inch matress.
Wow! Sounds like you have a great plan in progress! We wish you all of the luck in the world!! Happy Travels to you!
Good job ladies.

I need those wrap around sunglasses~! can I ask the brand? thanks and happy trails
Sure - those are Timberland - I also have a pair of Columbia ones that are almost identical (and a bit MORE polarized!)

Simple and effective, well done 👍
Glad you liked it! We hope that you found something helpful!

This is a very interesting video of your camper. I really enjoyed watching. Have a nice evening ✌️
Glad you enjoyed it! We hope it helps some out with some decisions on sleeping arrangements!
Great set up. Hard to be clutter free with small spaces. You shared some good tips.
Thanks for watching! Yes, the small space requires some discipline! But we love it and are more comfortable in the van than anywhere else!

Hi guys! Thanks for watching - keeping is simple is our thing - it has been working VERY well for us and we are quite comfortable in the van!
We have a pro city ram and when we go on trip we put a cot in it. I want a ford transit cargo now for more space but using cots instead of building it. We use the van for other uses too so when not traveling we store the cot in our garage.
That sounds like a great plan - and we can tell you from experience - it has worked out great for us!
You have so many great ideas. ❤Thank and you for sharing them. 💗 Miles and Karen🐶😊

Genius sleep system.
@@wanderingoutyonder thanks for the detailed information. When I truck camp the thermarest pad still works for me.

Lovely Idea Ladies! You might want to
Remove that rubber Matt that is under your foam mattress. So your foam mattress doesn’t mold under it.
Thank you for the suggestion! We flip it all up when not in use and check it frequently. Mold is definitely something we check for regularly .
Keep It Simple Sweet (KISS) perfect set up
my van build is very simple but my van is my tow vehicle for my travel trailer and I call it "da den" so it is/a spare lol guest room for grandkids, friends or me if I choose to park my trailer and venture over the border etc.
nice video looking forward to watching your series. 😊
Love that! What a great saying!
Thanks for joining us - very cool "den" idea!!
That’s my thoughts exactly. I won’t be building mine out. Just a camping cot, totes under it with clothes and snacks, a fridge, jackets and a zero breeze. That’s it
Less is best in our opinion!! Thanks for watching!
Love the set up. All cots are a tad too long for my jeep. Considering a small van within a few months
Oh very cool! Setting up a van is so much fun! Happy travels!
Great video! Love it🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for watching!
i agree totally but what about condense
Always! We have since changed up a few things and have even MORE space ! We will most likely being sharing our updates soon! Thanks for watching!
Good info, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I can find my way around a drill and saw, but yeah, don't really want to build. Nice and simple! Thanks.
We hope you found something helpful! Thank you for watching!
Love your no-build! Are the cots affixed to the floor of the van or are they stable enough resting on carpet?
Yes they are! We have them connected to the wall with giant zip ties into the existing holes in the walls!
I like your set up that's like my idea
Glad you like it! Hope that you found some helpful ideas!
Gefällt mir danke, Gruß Siggi 👍🔔🎹
Thanks for watching!
Y'all did an awesome job! it's all about being creative for sure. Have a great Thanksgiving!
Thank you!
Oh no - we hope that you can find something for your needs! Happy Travels - thanks for watching!
great video :)
Thanks for watching!
Than you really helpfull
You are very welcome - we hope you found some things that may be helpful in your future endeavors! Happy Travels!
I notice there is no unsulation, what do you do to keep the cold out in Winter? Thanks for the video.

Informatif👍👍👍🙏🇮🇩📌📌📌
Thank you! We hope it helps!
@@wanderingoutyonder ok, thank you very much !
This actually what I’m going to be doing a no build van but I’ll have everything I need. So when I want to sell the van or need to use it for something else I can just remove things.
Great approach! It has worked so well for us for 2 years now!
Less is more! Nice video. :D
Yes! Thank you!
Which cargo van is yours? Just curious if you both have jobs? Do you have a home base? Thank you for sharing this information and video.
Yes we do - we both have a home base and jobs (*sigh* lol)
You're the smartest van loafers on TH-cam I swear to God these people spend $80000 and 6 months of their lives for something that will be worth 4 grand and 5 years.
A Coleman stove for cooking and heating a composting toilet and a bed and a jug of water. No solar panels needed.

Terrible sound level on this vid. I have my laptop on MAX and need to put subtitles on to hear it. Solid ideas though.
hmmmm.....not sure why that would happen, thanks for watching! Glad you liked the ideas!
We appreciate the information!
You didn't insulate your van? You better not travel in the winter time in a metal box like that van without insulation, you will freeze
