Sabino Canyon Recreation Area: The Shuttle Crawler Ride to the Top Through Coronado National Forest
Join us as we go Wandering Out Yonder in Sabino Canyon Recreation Area on Day 18 of our cross country road trip in the van.
Sabino Canyon is a beautiful natural area located in Tucson Arizona. Located at the base of The Santa Catalina Mountains are was carved by the Sabino Creek.
The The Santa Catalina Mountains are over 12 million years old. The area around the mountains sank, forming the mountain range that is left standing, and the valleys around them.
Over time, different stages of erosion produced sediment that is thousands of feet deep, and now, is what is underneath Tucson.
Sabino Creek gives life to the desert flora in the valley of the canyon. It supports plants such as: cottonwood, sycamore, ash, walnut & willow trees - along with cacti. The most notable and most abundant is the Saguaro cactus.
Wildlife present in the canyon can include, birds, lizards, snakes, bobcat, coyote, mountain lions, road runners & more.
Sabino Canyon has been closed to private vehicles since 1978. Today, there is an environmentally friendly, electric, emission free shuttle called the Sabino Canyon Crawler that will take visitors up to the top of the canyon on a 7+ round trip ride.
While on the tour, you will learn about the geology, culture, plants & wildlife in the canyon. This automated program is accessible by headphones that are supplied at the time of the tour.
While on the crawler, you can stop at any of the points of interest to explore, and get back on a later tour at any point with proof of ticket.
We hope you enjoy the video!

I also have a transit 250, but with long wheelbase, and I'm looking into getting one of these cots. I will need to get a longer one because I'm 6 feet tall. It looks like the wheel well fits between the middle and end supports of the cots you bought. I have the Legend insulated wheel well covers in my van which makes them take up a little more room. I think I need about 38 inches between the cot supports if it is going to straddle the wheel well. Could you please tell me the distance between the 2 supports, middle and end? I can't find those measurements on amazon or on the coleman site.

I know it was early but I loved those long, 'quiet' roads and that sure was one long train - did it ever stop! Our grandson would have loved seeing that train and how close you go to the air force base. Nice little loop but on a hot day the 30 minute ride up would have suited me too. Cheers Alan
