That thing was a ton of work! I had to repair the a lot of the frame around the torsion housing. Replaced half of the cargo floors, and finished the cargo floor welding from the original build. Laid down the front floor and did some mods to the existing frame to get the front floor down and tie all the front end in where they removed the lower valence. And like Dave mentioned, replace the spring plates and transmission. All mechanical and wiring was gone through to make it driveable. The wiring was the biggest mess but I did a quick refurb on the fuse panel to clean up the terminals. Kinda cool, the fuse panel is made of some stamped aluminum plaque from WWII. We brought it back to life in like a week so he could make it to OCTO June 2023. Fun car
I remember I talked the old man into ordering a giant submarine kit for like $3 from one of those tiny back page ads, and he warned me it would be junk. But naturally I was frothing and he finally gave in.. When it arrived, it was literally cardboard you folded & taped and it was in fact garbage right from the start. But I persisted and managed to have a lot of fun before it gave up. Lol! He never let me forget it either.@@EddyCollins-TZN168
There is one of those in Charleston SC dude said he and his art teacher in highschool built it and he inherited the bus he said it was extremely Hot with little ventilation only brought it to shows and parades
I have a walk through 67 so42. I practically daily drive it and camp in it several times a year. The boonie bug is a totally different experience. The boonie from a time. Yes. There was a car called the Brubaker box. I think these get confused because the humbug looks like a box. The Brubaker looks more like a Pinto station wagon without a hood
@@MLFranklin oh, you definitely can. The biggest challenge that comes along with that is the fact that these do not have VIN stamped on them. So if you have your old car, that is all rotted out, you can transfer it over I suppose. Not sure about the legalities there to be honest. But I know that there are some states that wouldn’t care.
@campervanbug7658 I agree. It would be fun. Anything goes with these. Make one out of Anything. Maybe a slammed one from a sports car chassis Or a lifted one. Using a Vanagaon
The idea was to build a short wheel base. light weight Manx/dune buggy,Baja bug type vehicle. That you can sleep in. I'm just going to shaggy it out and have a good time with it. I do have a 67 Westfalia. As our main camper.
You just popped into my feed. Looks like you are getting traction! My buddy Jeffro has a boonie as well.
Awesome! Glad it got to you. That’s pretty rad that your friend has one of these. I only know of these two in the video.

Hey Bob! It was really fun watching you and Dave go at it with this thing.
Oh it definitely looks like it was a ton of work! Both demo and building it.
Beautiful!!! Looks like a 70's hot wheels car. Awesome!! 🤙🏻
It Definitely does!
Awesome thanks Eddy
I was thinking that or one of the concept/fantasy model car kits from the likes of AMT or ERTL for instance.
It's like driving a concept car or giant toy that was never meant to be on the road. Definitely a fantasy come true.
I remember those plans. I used to go through my dads magazines every month and dream about all the cool stuff I could send away for.
Those were some good days!

I think just making the interior usable and keeping the exterior like this would be cool.
For sure! Maybe some wall to wall shag? 🤙
I'm almost the fiberglass repairs. I'm very excited to plush out the interior
Always wanted one of these
Reminds me of the Brubaker Box. Cool ride man!
Thanks buddy 👍
5 spoke cragers would even make a AMC pacer look like a show winner
Ha!!! A Pacer IS cool?! 😂 I used to say that if you squinted enough at a Pacer, you could try to make it look like a 911 in your mind.
I agree with you. They are really heavy but look so good
Love the fact that people are bringing this old stuff back to life .
I'm into different and this thing if definitely that .
Thanks for sharing 😎✌️
Yeah, that’s what I love about this thing. Definitely different!
I saw it and had to have it. 😅
Wow....I remember these and others of foam and fiberglass method from the 60's.....very cool.
If this guy ain't high, then he might be the original spicoli! lol !!
😂 he’s super chill.
I'm just chill bro.
Love it!
Thanks. Me too. Definitely fun too look at.
There is one of those in Charleston SC dude said he and his art teacher in highschool built it and he inherited the bus he said it was extremely Hot with little ventilation only brought it to shows and parades
That would be cool to get your hands on it!
Great story.
Is it yellow? I've seen pics of a clean yellow one. It was at a car show.
Metal flake Blue would look really cool.
i will just take my bus camping. cheers
I have westfalia for camp in I love it.
some day I might camp in this.

I haven't seen one of those in years.... even restoring dubs for 20 years ,, Ive seen 2 in my lifetime -Tell Dave Spook Said hi
Hi spook. This is only the 2nd one I've seen in person. In all my years as well
The dude is so stoned…
Nah he's just super chill
Been accused of that my entire life.
Cyberbug 😃
I drove it past the tesla charging station. The auto detailers got excited yelled out, "cyber van!" It was rad.
The detailers were not driving e cars.
Que curioso, verdad.
Wasn't there some kinda VW kit van in the 70's called a Burbank, or something?🤔
Yes. There was a car called the Brubaker box. I think these get confused because the humbug looks like a box.

cool
Need to modify the plans and fit this on an old minivan or Ford Explorer chassis.
🤔
@@EddyCollins-TZN168 Because it's so cool and we're definitely running out of VW Transporters.
Well, now they’re making new bodies. Of course it’s cooler when it’s on a REAL bus.
@@EddyCollins-TZN168 Good point. I wonder if you an piece together a "new" transporter pan from new stampings like you can with the Beetle.

It's true
Rad af
Save a bus just fab a frame

Are there body kits in this style still being made? Be awesome to put this on a golf cart and drive it around my home town
A Boonie was used in the movie Total recall
Really?! I’ll have to watch it again. Thanks!
True, those were the vehicles used in the tunnels on Mars scenes.
Yes, they had a very nice gray one. I wonder where it is now.
Cool build
Yeah it’s pretty cool for sure!
Thank you I appreciate that
Wish I had that bus
Can you imagine what they must have started with before cutting it up?
als wenn ein Multicar und ein Vw T3 Bus Nachwuchs gezeugt haben....
Sehr richtig. Ich habe nicht so darüber nachgedacht.
I checked the one out the guys at the station I’n Joshua tree own.
Fun
Yes! That’s the first one I ever saw. You should see it now. He restored it!
It was restored when I saw it.
They had just got it running again.
That one is rad. That store and collection are great.
That dude is high AF.
Nah he's just chill.
Nah, people have been telling me that my entire life.....
Immediately on seeing ol' dude sitting in the van it was apparent he was extremely stoned. 🌚
You think so? 😮
@@EddyCollins-TZN168 I just get those vibes from him. Seems like a really chill dude. It takes one to know one I always say hehe.

High, on life bud. I hear that a lot.
Ian Roussel built a replica a while back .
Yes. I had the pleasure to meet the owner of that one. We going to have a boonie meet
